Carryover Storage Of Indian Prior And Paramount Water In El Vado, Viola Sanchez Jan 2007

Carryover Storage Of Indian Prior And Paramount Water In El Vado, Viola Sanchez

Law of the Rio Chama

Storage and release for the Six Middle Rio Grande Pueblos has taken place at El Vado Reservoir since the reservoir was first used in 1935. No distinction was made between the lands being served and their appurtenant water rights in storage and delivery in the early years of El Vado operation. El Vado storage and release for Indian lands became an issue at least as early as 1948 because of Rio Grande Compact restrictions on El Vado releases. As a result of this and other alleged Rio Grande Compact violations by New Mexico, Texas filed a Supreme Court lawsuit, Texas …

An Evaluation Of Omg Sysml 1.0a Standard Conformance Between Modelling Tools, Andrew James Campbell Jan 2007

An Evaluation Of Omg Sysml 1.0a Standard Conformance Between Modelling Tools, Andrew James Campbell

Theses : Honours

The SysML is a recent introduction to modelling languages for the systems engineering domain. Modelling tools are offering support for its notation. Studies related to the UML have indicated that modelling tools lack compliance to the UML language. This issue may apply equally to the SysML and the aim of this research is to investigate that language compliance issue. The first phase of this research is concerned with the compliance of current modelling tools to the SysML l.0a Final Adopted Specification (PAS). It consists of a comparative evaluation of candidate tools based on an ideal framework derived from the language …

Air Cargo Security - The Cost Of Doing Business In The 21st Century, Kathleen M. Sweet

Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research

"Science and technology is key to winning this new kind of war" Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge (Press Release DHS, September 2004). In the United States, the newly created Transportation Security Administration (TSA), as part of the larger Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has assumed overall responsibility for transportation security. The U.S. government has generally relied heavily on strategic partnerships with industry to reach their security goals. Other countries have followed suit. However, the Europeans and the Israeli's have been far less enthusiastic than the Americans in permitting the industry to police itself. Some air cargo security programs outside …

Quakers And Coercion In A World Of Good And Evil (Chapter Eleven In Good And Evil: Quaker Perspectives), Phil Smith Jan 2007

Quakers And Coercion In A World Of Good And Evil (Chapter Eleven In Good And Evil: Quaker Perspectives), Phil Smith

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Excerpt: "When is it right to force someone to do something?

Real evil exists in the world. We recognize it in the selfish and cruel actions of other people, and if we are honest we admit at least the possibility of evil in our own actions. Sometimes we have the power, we think, to stop evildoers. But since we recognize the potential for doing evil ourselves, we worry that our efforts to stop the injustice of others will themselves be unjust. Whether wickedly or unwittingly, our fight against evil might just produce more evil."

On Guessing Points And Naming Stars: Epistemological Origins Of John’S Christological Tensions (Chapter In The Gospel Of St. John And Christian Theology), Paul N. Anderson Jan 2007

On Guessing Points And Naming Stars: Epistemological Origins Of John’S Christological Tensions (Chapter In The Gospel Of St. John And Christian Theology), Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Theological and biblical studies have historically developed hand in hand, and John’s distinctive Christology has long been at the center of that relationship. Within John the humanity and divinity of Jesus converge, as do the Son’s equality with — and subordination to — the Father. Likewise, embellished and existentialized appraisals of Jesus’ signs, present and futuristic eschatology, universalistic and particularistic soteriology, pro- and anti-Jewish sentiments, and apparent free-will and deterministic motifs pervade the Johannine text among other tensions as well. From the patristic era to the modern age, John’s christological tensions have intrigued and challenged theologians and exegetes alike. Indeed, …

Why This Study Is Needed, And Why It Is Needed Now (From John, Jesus, And History, Vol. 1), Paul N. Anderson Jan 2007

Why This Study Is Needed, And Why It Is Needed Now (From John, Jesus, And History, Vol. 1), Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Few scholarly developments have been an interesting as the modernistic dehistoricization of John and the de-Johannification of Jesus. To a certain degree, each of these trends has bolstered the other, and the assertion of many a scholar claiming the authoritative weight of critical and scientific study is that the one thing we know for sure is actually two: the Fourth Gospel is of no historical value, and historical Jesus research must be performed untainted by any Johannine influence. The question is the degree to which either of these assertions is true, a solid platform upon which to base the frameworks …

First-Time Mothers' Parenting Knowledge During Their Infant's First Year: Relations With Information Sources, Social Support Networks, Maternal Self-Efficacy, And Infant Development., Nichole L. Elliott Jan 2007

First-Time Mothers' Parenting Knowledge During Their Infant's First Year: Relations With Information Sources, Social Support Networks, Maternal Self-Efficacy, And Infant Development., Nichole L. Elliott

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

A mother's knowledge about parenting and child development is an important facilitator of effective parenting behavior. Research suggests that an infant's healthy development is influenced by his or her mother's parenting behaviors (Kenny, Bowen, & Starte, 2004). Although past research has established the relations between parenting knowledge and many maternal and infant characteristics, the importance of this topic necessitates further research. The current study was conducted to assess relations among mothers’ parenting and milestone knowledge, mothers' sources of information about parenting and child development, mothers' social support network density and satisfaction with the availability of their support networks, mother's parenting …

An Exploratory Study Of Multiple Relationships, Ethical Decision Making And The Identification Of Potentially Harmful Relationships In College Counseling Centers., Leslie M. Frere

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Multiple relationships are a concern for the helping professions, yet are often unavoidable. Smaller communities, such as those on college campuses, can make avoiding these types of relationships difficult where professional roles frequently overlap. This research explores the characteristics that may influence an individual’s ability to identify situations where harmful relationships are likely to occur. Respondents included staff members and interns at APA accredited internship sites in college counseling centers across the United States. A survey was mailed to 659 potential respondents with 136 usable responses. The independent variables of age, clinical experience, and amount of received supervision were examined …

Durable Consumption And The Life Cycle Permanent Income Hypothesis: Evidence From Survey Data., Chaiwuth Tangsomchai Jan 2007

Durable Consumption And The Life Cycle Permanent Income Hypothesis: Evidence From Survey Data., Chaiwuth Tangsomchai

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This dissertation uses the survey data from the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) and the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) to test the Life Cycle Permanent Income Hypothesis (LCPI) as it applies to the consumption of durable goods. To measure durable consumption services (“durable consumption,” for short) housing and vehicle consumption data are employed. We find that households mostly behave as implied by the LCPI Hypothesis, although they consume from their permanent income somewhat less than what the strict LCPI Hypothesis predicts. We also incorporate the effect of household financial constraints, which have previously been shown to have …

An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Respirator Half-Facepiece Fit And Facial Anthropometry Using Three-Dimensional Laser Scanning Technology., Dennis W. Groce Jan 2007

An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Respirator Half-Facepiece Fit And Facial Anthropometry Using Three-Dimensional Laser Scanning Technology., Dennis W. Groce

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This study investigated the relationship between industrial respirator half-facepiece fit and facial anthropometry, including three-dimensional parameters. The investigation included application of laser scanning technology to the measurement of faces. The goal was to identify facially-related variables that are worthy of further investigation. The relationships between facial features and respirator dimensions are of significance to the industrial respirator community (manufacturers, testers, and users) because the faceseal leakage affects the level of protection provided by the respirators to workers; factors that predict facepiece fit are therefore of interest for the design of respirators, the testing of respirators, and the selection of respirators …
