Antony Flew’S Deism Revisited: A Review Essay On ‘There Is A God’, Gary R. Habermas Jan 2007

Antony Flew’S Deism Revisited: A Review Essay On ‘There Is A God’, Gary R. Habermas

Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary (1973-2015)

When preeminent philosophical atheist Antony Flew announced in 2004 that he had come to believe in God's existence and was probably best considered a deist, the reaction from both believers and skeptics was "off the chart." Few religious stories had this sort of appeal and impact, across the spectrum, both popular as well as theoretical. No recent change of mind has received this much attention. Flew responded by protesting that his story really did not deserve this much interest. But as he explained repeatedly, he simply had to go where the evidence led.

Obedience—How Crucial? 1 Corinthians 3:15b: Saved Anyway, Or A Misunderstood Afterthought?, Kent Yinger Jan 2007

Obedience—How Crucial? 1 Corinthians 3:15b: Saved Anyway, Or A Misunderstood Afterthought?, Kent Yinger

Faculty Publications - Portland Seminary

In discussions of the place of obedience in Christians’ final salvation, 1 Cor 3:15 has often played a role (“saved as through fire”). The nature of this text as a very limited caveat in Paul’s argument will be contrasted with most other readings throughout its history of interpretation. Thirty two loci were excavated in 2007 in areas A. They are located at the courtyard, the paved road to the city and probes in chamber 3. Area A-West, was designated as a separate area. It is located west of the city gate and includes the plaza and the immediate areas near the gate. Area C was excavated for only 8 days and revealed further segments of the Hellenistic Roman residential quarter. All these areas yielded rich finds and enhanced our understanding of the site.

Why This Study Is Needed, And Why It Is Needed Now (From John, Jesus, And History, Vol. 1), Paul N. Anderson

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Few scholarly developments have been an interesting as the modernistic dehistoricization of John and the de-Johannification of Jesus. To a certain degree, each of these trends has bolstered the other, and the assertion of many a scholar claiming the authoritative weight of critical and scientific study is that the one thing we know for sure is actually two: the Fourth Gospel is of no historical value, and historical Jesus research must be performed untainted by any Johannine influence.
