Prince Caspian And Child Christopher And Goldilind The Fair, Robert Boenig
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
A look at the roots of Lewis’s Prince Caspian in William Morris’s Child Christopher and Goldilind the Fair (and in turn Morris’s source in Havelok the Dane) investigating the “imaginatively redemptive” changes Lewis made to this source material.

Beorn And Tom Bombadil: A Tale Of Two Heroes, Paul W. Lewis
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Compares Tolkien’s Beorn and Tom Bombadil, assessing their functions in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, their characters, and their importance, although they are tangential in their stories, to Tolkien’s themes.

The LIM domain-binding protein Ldb1 is an essential cofactor of LIM-homeodomain (LIM-HD) and LIM-only (LMO) proteins in development. The stoichiometry of Ldb1, LIM-HD, and LMO proteins is tightly controlled in the cell and is likely a critical determinant of their biological actions. Single-stranded DNA-binding proteins (SSBPs) were recently shown to interact with Ldb1 and are also important in developmental programs. We establish here that two mammalian SSBPs, SSBP2 and SSBP3, contribute to an erythroid DNA-binding complex that contains the transcription factors Tal1 and GATA-1, the LIM domain protein Lmo2, and Ldb1 and binds a bipartite E-box-GATA DNA sequence motif. Translated Opinions
Facts: In response to large scale incursions onto state land in the Negev by Bedouins and their planting of agricultural crops on that land, the respondents decided to destroy the crops by spraying herbicide from the air. The petitioners challenged this policy on the grounds that the spraying of herbicide was done ultra vires and also endangered the health and dignity of Bedouins in the vicinity of the spraying. The respondents denied that the herbicide used presented any risks to health.
Held: (Justice Joubran) The respondents have no power under the law to spray herbicide in order to prevent incursions …

Gynomorphic Mandible Morphology In The Dobsonfly, Corydalus Cornutus, David E. Bowles, Atilano Contreras-Ramos, Robert W. Sites
College of Natural and Applied Sciences
Two aberrant males of Corydalus cornutus (L.) (Insecta: Megaloptera), which exhibit unusually short mandibles with discrete dentition, are recorded from a locality in Missouri. Morphological details of the specimens, as well as implications for the overall morphological variation of the genus and species are discussed. The term gynomorphic is suggested as the best descriptor of this case, given that little explanatory information is available to classify these specimens as true gynandromorphs.

The completion of the draft sequence of the rhesus macaque genome allowed us to study the genomic composition and evolution of transposable elements in this representative of the Old World monkey lineage, a group of diverse primates closely related to humans. The L1 family of long interspersed elements appears to have evolved as a single lineage, and Alu elements have evolved into four currently active lineages. We also found evidence of elevated horizontal transmissions of retroviruses and the absence of DNA transposon activity in the Old World monkey lineage. In addition, ∼100 precursors of composite SVA (short interspersed element, variable …

The rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) is an abundant primate species that diverged from the ancestors of Homo sapiens about 25 million years ago. Because they are genetically and physiologically similar to humans, rhesus monkeys are the most widely used nonhuman primate in basic and applied biomedical research. We determined the genome sequence of an Indian-origin Macaca mulatta female and compared the data with chimpanzees and humans to reveal the structure of ancestral primate genomes and to identify evidence for positive selection and lineage-specific expansions and contractions of gene families. A comparison of sequences from individual animals was used to investigate …
