Detection Of Panulirus Argus Virus 1 In Caribbean Spiny Lobsters, Megan M. Montgomery-Fullerton, Roland Cooper, Kathryn M. Kauffman, Jeffrey D. Shields, Robert E. Ratzlaff

Collected Faculty Scholarship

Panulirus argus Virus 1 (PaV1) is a pathogenic virus that infects Caribbean spiny lobsters P. argus in the Florida Keys. We have developed a PCR detection assay for PaV1 for the purpose of studying the natural history of the virus and for monitoring the prevalence of infection. The detection of the virus in hemolymph and other tissues is based on the PCR amplification of a 499 bp product using specific primers designed from a cloned fragment of the PaV1 genome. The sensitivity limit for the assay was 1.2 fg of purified viral DNA. The PaV1 primers did not react with …

Powers Of Illegality: House Demolitions And Resistance In East Jerusalem, Irus Braverman Jun 2007

Powers Of Illegality: House Demolitions And Resistance In East Jerusalem, Irus Braverman

Journal Articles

This article examines how techniques of illegality based in planning laws and policy are utilized to dominate the Palestinian population of East Jerusalem. Although the demolition of homes is the most spectacular spatial mechanism of illegality exercised by Israel in East Jerusalem, my focus in the first part of the article is on more mundane techniques of illegality, such as mapping, filing, and arbitrariness. The second part of the article introduces the notion of resistance and explores the illegal building carried out by East Jerusalemite Palestinians as an act of spatial protest. In examining tactics of "everyday" resistance, I suggest …

Agenda: The Future Of Natural Resources Law And Policy, University Of Colorado Boulder. Natural Resources Law Center, Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation

The Future of Natural Resources Law and Policy (Summer Conference, June 6-8)

The Natural Resources Law Center's 25th Anniversary Conference and Natural Resources Law Teachers 14th Biennial Institute provided an opportunity for some of the best natural resources lawyers to discuss future trends in the field. The conference focused on the larger, cross-cutting issues affecting natural resources policy. Initial discussions concerned the declining role of scientific resource management due to the increased inclusion of economic-cost benefit analysis and public participation in the decision-making process. The effectiveness of this approach was questioned particularly in the case of non-market goods such as the polar bear. Other participants promoted the importance of public participation and …

Chanber Of Deputies Approves Initiative To Promote Ethanol Industry In Mexico, Noticen Writers

NotiEn: An Analytical Digest About Energy Issues in Latin America

In late April, the Chamber of Deputies approved legislation to promote the creation of an ethanol industry in Mexico, but critics are concerned about repercussions on the country's corn and sugarcane production. The ethanol provision in the bioenergy law (Ley de Promocion y Desarrollo de los Bioenergeticos), approved primarily with the support of the governing conservative Partido Accion Nacional (PAN) and the opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), garnered 243 votes. All other parties, including the environmentally oriented Partido Verde Ecologista Mexicano (PVEM) and the center-left Partido de la Revolucion Democratica (PRD), opposed the initiative but obtained only 127 votes. The …
