Effective Leadership Through Emotional Maturity, Linda Hyatt, Blaine Hyatt, James Hyatt
Effective Leadership Through Emotional Maturity, Linda Hyatt, Blaine Hyatt, James Hyatt
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal
What makes a leader successful? This question has been asked throughout the ages; before one attempt to understand what makes a leader successful, one must first have a full comprehension of what constitutes success and what constitutes a leader. To merely hold the position of a leader does not make one a leader. Success is largely an individualistic interpretation of personal increase or satisfaction, whether physical, emotional, or psychological. One’s perception of success is influenced by the social contexts around the individual. A successful leader must possess certain characteristics and have the ability to transform those characteristics into action. A …

Celebrating Paradoxes In Christian Leadership, Michael E. Cafferky

Studying organizations as dynamic, open systems has captured the interest of organizational scholars for several decades. Along with other influences this has led to pr9gressively more sophisticated understanding of how leaders and followers interact and how their organizations interact with the external environment. In turn, as our understanding has improved, scholarly awareness of the complexity of leadership has increased. One might argue that this awareness correspondingly has produced a better understanding of the many tensions that derive from dilemmas and paradoxes that leaders face in their work.

Military Values In Law, Diane H. Mazur
Military Values In Law, Diane H. Mazur
Duke Journal of Gender Law & Policy
Congress, for example, takes inappropriate advantage of the tremendous deference given by courts to its constitutional powers to raise and support Armies, to provide and maintain a Navy, and to make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces.\n In a court-martial involving a military defendant and a civilian victim of sexual assault, application of the psychotherapist-patient privilege raises no difficult issues related to professional military values. When both the victim and the defendant are members of the military, however, the victim's assertion of privilege is at least potentially inconsistent with the victim's professional obligation to …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
High-stakes accountability, standards for improvement, global perspectives, and social considerations are re-defining the educational process. These powerful forces shake foundations and traditions, restructure organizational expectations, and change the role of all stakeholders. As these tremors reach the local school level, tremendous pressure is applied to respond precipitously. Measurement of school performance against standards places deficiencies in the limelight. At the local level, Kentucky school principals bear the primary burden for school success as clearly defined by the state's accountability system. Based on Kentucky's Standards and Indicators for School Improvement and its accompanying Scholastic Audit procedures, an explicit purpose of this …

Analysis Of Leadership Theories, Bill Miles
Analysis Of Leadership Theories, Bill Miles
Bill Miles
Leadership theories have evolved in the last century to the point where they begin to be the basis for models that accurately describe the activities of leaders with good correlation to their success in some situations (Antonakis and House, 2002; Yukl, 2006). From the early trait theories to the modern theories of transformational leadership, each attempts to describe the behavior of successful leaders. The four theories that will be discusses in this paper are the leader-member exchange theory (LMX), path-goal theory, transactional-transformational theory, and the full-range leadership theory (FRLT).

Complexity Leadership Theory: Shifting Leadership From The Industrial Age To The Knowledge Era, Mary Uhl-Bien, Russ Marion, Bill Mckelvey
Leadership Institute: Faculty Publications
Leadership models of the last century have been products of top-down, bureaucratic paradigms. These models are eminently effective for an economy premised on physical production but are not well-suited for a more knowledge-oriented economy. Complexity science suggests a different paradigm for leadership—one that frames leadership as a complex interactive dynamic from which adaptive outcomes (e.g., learning, innovation, and adaptability) emerge. This article draws from complexity science to develop an overarching framework for the study of Complexity Leadership Theory, a leadership paradigm that focuses on enabling the learning, creative, and adaptive capacity of complex adaptive systems (CAS) within a context of …

“Go Live In ’05”—From Hierarchy To Shared Governance In Higher Education, Peter A. Maresco
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal
Higher education is in the midst of a major transformation evidenced by several factors: greater demands from stakeholders; pressure to increase student enrollment, financial uncertainty, limited resources, and a responsibility to contribute to the community’s civic and economic development. Faculty and staff in higher education are challenged to deliver education in innovative ways. This innovation requires an expedient method of governance and necessitates careful examination of the organization’s structural, cultural, and decision-making processes. To meet these demands, leaders in higher education must examine decision-making processes and design governance models that respond quickly and efficiently to their myriad of constituents.
