Dancing Through Film Musicals: Narratives In Motion, Dara Phillips

The purpose of this study was to discover if and how dance communicates vital plot and character information nonverbally. The example analyzed was the film Singin’ in the Rain. This thesis examined the six dance sequences in the film to determine if the dancing is an integral, powerful, and significant communicative addition to the film. Walter Fisher’s Narrative Paradigm was used in conjunction with Seymour Chatman’s concept of kernels and satellites to determine if the dances communicated significantly to the film’s viewers. The Narrative Paradigm, though loosely framed, provided the concepts of coherence and fidelity. These concepts helped determine if …

Dayside Aurorae And Polar Arcs Under South-East Imf Orientation, P. E. Sandholt, M. Dyrland, Charlie J. Farrugia

We document a characteristic spatial and temporal structure of the aurora in the postnoon sector present during a 10-h-long interval of very steady southeast IMF orientation (clock angle=135°) ending in a sharp south-to-north transition. Focus is placed on the detailed morphology of auroral forms/activities corresponding to merging and lobe convection cells obtained from SuperDARN convection data and Greenland magnetograms. The ground optical instruments at Ny Ålesund, Svalbard (76° MLAT) recorded different auroral forms/activities as the station moved to higher magnetic local times (MLTs) in the 13:00–17:00 MLT sector. In April 2003, Nuclear Watch of New Mexico (NukeWatch) was funded by the Citizens’ Monitoring and Technical Assessment (MTA) Fund to conduct “Analyses of Department of Energy Environmental Management: Economic and Environmental Issues in New Mexico.”
New Mexico is home to two of the nation’s three nuclear weapons labs, the Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, with annual budgets of more than $2 billion each. New Mexico also hosts the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, the world’s only deep geological disposal site for radioactive transuranic wastes, which are primarily plutonium contaminated wastes resulting from nuclear weap- ons research and production.
