Morality And Antitrust, Maurice Stucke
Morality And Antitrust, Maurice Stucke
Scholarly Works
Although the Sherman Act was enacted over a century ago, antitrust enforcers, policy makers, and scholars have largely circumvented the morality of antitrust crimes. Its absence is remarkable given the vigorous debate over the appropriate civil and criminal penalties for antitrust violations. Under the continued influence of the Chicago-school's neoclassical economic theories, antitrust analysis is primarily concerned with economic efficiency. Since terms like morality and evil are judgmental, not descriptive, they are deemed outside the discourse of economic theory's self-described positivism. But antitrust analysis is not beyond the judgmental. Over the past thirty years, while antitrust's civil remedies have remained …
Essay Review Of "The Arts And The Creation Of Mind" By Elliot Eisner, James Haywood Rolling Jr.
Essay Review Of "The Arts And The Creation Of Mind" By Elliot Eisner, James Haywood Rolling Jr.
Teaching and Leadership - All Scholarship
To be so ensconced in addressing the developmental needs of elementary learners through all of the fine arts, whether, as Eisner puts it, “visual, choreographic, musical, literary, or poetic” (p. xii), while at the same time developing content of relevance to the agenda of beginning artist-researchers in our unique era, is also to reflect upon my own journey from elementary artistic understandings to expertise. How did the arts carry me from point A, to point B—from an elementary education during which time art education was effectively cut from New York City public schools because of fiscal crisis, to a postsecondary …

The Politics Of Implementing Local Cultures In Music Education In Taiwan, Wai-Chung Ho
The Politics Of Implementing Local Cultures In Music Education In Taiwan, Wai-Chung Ho
Research & Issues in Music Education
Recent studies of the localization and globalization of Taiwan’s music education cannot explain the complicated interplay between localization and the pursuit of local cultures in national development and policy making in the broader society, and in school education in Taiwan between the late 1980s and 2004. Features of localization in Taiwan’s music education include the highlighting of local artists and musical styles such as Taiwanese opera, puppetry shows, and local folk music in the curriculum. More importantly, music education to support the indigenous core values of peace, the beauty of the homeland, and harmony in society and in everyday life …

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications
In 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) implemented the first of five nationwide monitoring efforts for American Peregrine Falcons (Falco peregrinus anatum) (Peregrine Falcons) as described in the Service’s post-delisting monitoring plan (USFWS 2003). More than 300 observers monitored 438 Peregrine Falcon territories across six monitoring regions. Monitoring in the Southwestern monitoring region fell short of the monitoring goal, where 36 of the targeted 96 territories were monitored; efforts are underway to implement full-scale monitoring in that region in 2006. The five other monitoring regions surveyed sufficient territories to meet the statistical criteria described in the post-delisting monitoring …

Dealing With The "Third Enemy": English-Language Learning And Native-Language Maintenance Among Danish Immigrants In Utah, 1850-1930, Lynn Henrichsen, George Bailey, Jacob Huckaby
Dealing With The "Third Enemy": English-Language Learning And Native-Language Maintenance Among Danish Immigrants In Utah, 1850-1930, Lynn Henrichsen, George Bailey, Jacob Huckaby
The Bridge
In the latter half of the nineteenth century, over 22,000 Scandinavians joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (hereafter referred to as the church or the LDS church) and migrated to Utah.1 Well over half of these Scandinavians, 12,350 (not including children age 12 and under), were Danes.2
This influx of people who spoke a language other than English and came from a cultural background different from that of the original Anglo-American settlers of Utah presented some perplexing challenges. Even Brigham Young, the territorial governor and LDS church president, found them difficult to resolve. According to local folklore, …
