Oxygen Atom Transfer Chemistry Of [Mo(Vi)O2]2+ Cores And Geometric Rearrangement In [Mo(V)O]3+ Cores: Reactivity, Mechanisms And Electronic Structure Of Functional Molybdoprotein Model Systems, Brian William Kail
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The oxygen atom transfer reactivity of a discrete dioxo-molybdenum(VI) complexes, TpiPrMoO2(OPh) (where TpiPr= hydrotris(3-isopropylpyrazol-1-yl)borate), TpMe2MoO2(OPh), TpMe2MoO2(SPh), TpMe2MoO2(Cl), (where TpMe2= hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)borate), with seven tertiary phosphines (PMe3, PMe2Ph, PEt3, P(n-Bu)3, PEt2Ph, PPh2Et and PPh2Me) have been investigated. The first nucleophilic step follows a second-order rate with an associative transition state in all cases. The second step of the reaction, i.e., the exchange of the coordinated phosphine oxide with acetonitrile, follows a first-order process. The reaction follows a dissociative interchange (Id) or associative interchange (Ia) type mechanism, as it is substrate and compound dependent.
It has been established that there are three main …

Making Malaysian Research Available Through Publishing In Open Access E-Journals And E-Prints, Abdullah Abrizah, Kiran Kaur, N.N. Edzan, Awang Ngah Zainab
Research Publications (2006 to 2010)
Individual authors are making their research available by posting their articles to personal or institutional Web pages and to disciplinary repositories. The recent trend is to publish or self-archive in open-access journals and “e-print” (i.e., preprints or postprints) repositories, both of which make the full text of scholarly articles freely available to everyone on the open Internet. Electronic journals and electronic archives which are OAI compliant would help to solve Malaysian research visibility problems. Malaysian authors are already contributing to these archives since there is none locally. The open archives serve the authors by facilitating their self-archiving, ensuring the long-term …

Well Siblings Of Children With Type-I Diabetes, Amber Lee Cadick
Well Siblings Of Children With Type-I Diabetes, Amber Lee Cadick
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The well siblings of children with chronic diseases are often overlooked by treatment providers. A retrospective qualitative approach was used to explore the childhood and adult experiences of well siblings of people with Type-I Diabetes. The participants were over 18-years-old, lived in the Midwest, and were raised with a sibling with Type-I Diabetes. A number of themes emerged from the data. The participants tended to utilize solution-focused, action-oriented coping strategies, for example, caretaking and increasing their knowledge about the disease. Stressors included experiencing the ill siblings' mood swings, a concern about their siblings' health, as well as a concern for …

Materials Research Science and Engineering Center: Faculty Publications
This chapter is devoted to the electronic structure of nanoscale metallic magnets. After an introduction to methods of electronic structure calculations, we review how recent trends translate into the description of magnetic nanostructures. Among the considered structures are nanowires, small particles, surfaces and interfaces, and multilayers, and emphasis is on magnetic properties such as moment and magnetization, interatomic exchange, and anisotropy.
One of the goals of computational nanoscience is to calculate physical and chemical properties from first principles. This requires the knowledge of the electronic structures of the materials system in question. The density-functional theory (DFT) makes a huge step …

Thermal Conditioning Of Fifth-Instar Cydia Pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Affects Hsp70 Accumulation And Insect Mortality, X. Yin, S. Wang, J. Tang, J. D. Hansen, S. Lurie
Entomology Papers from Other Sources
Levels of HSP70 protein of fifth-instar codling moth [Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)] are determined after conditioning at 35 °C for different times and also after recovery at 22 °C. Protein samples from larvae conditioned for different times are separated by sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis electrophoresis. Sub-lethal thermal conditioning at 35 °C for 40 min, 2, 6 and 18 h induces new protein bands in the extracts from treated codling moth larvae. Immunodetection with an antibody to a heat-inducible HSP70 indicates a stronger reaction after 35 °C for 2, 6 and 18 h than after 35 °C for …

Odor Footprint Tool Progress: Regional Output Resources, Richard R. Stowell, Dennis D. Schulte, Richard K. Koelsch, Christopher G. Henry
Nebraska Swine Reports
This article highlights practical applications for resources being developed using the Odor Footprint Tool and the effects of differing regional weather patterns on needed setbacks by describing resources created for the regions surrounding Norfolk and Lincoln, Neb. The Odor Footprint Tool is being developed to help people assess the odor impact of new and expanded animal production facilities on the surrounding areas and use science- based information to establish minimum setback distances. Progress continues to be made toward development of a system that can be used in the field to develop site-specific odor footprints. As an intermediate step in this …
On The Maximum Span Of Fixed-Angle Chains, Nadia Benbernou, Joseph O’Rourke
On The Maximum Span Of Fixed-Angle Chains, Nadia Benbernou, Joseph O’Rourke
Computer Science: Faculty Publications
Soss proved that it is NP-hard to find the maximum flat span of a fixed-angle polygonal chain: the largest distance achievable between the endpoints in a planar embedding. These fixed-angle chains can serve as models of protein backbones. The corresponding problem in 3D is open. We show that two special cases of particular relevance to the protein model are solvable in polynomial time: when all link lengths are equal, and all angles are equal, the maximum 3D span is achieved in a flat configuration and can be computed in constant time. When all angles are equal (but the link lengths …
Adolescents’ Expectations About Mothers’ Employment: Life Course Patterns And Parental Influence, Matthew Weinshenker
Adolescents’ Expectations About Mothers’ Employment: Life Course Patterns And Parental Influence, Matthew Weinshenker
Sociology Faculty Publications
Because of social constraint and personal preference, cutting back and dropping out of the workforce remain common responses to the problem of balancing work and motherhood. To understand whether this phenomenon will continue, adolescents from middle-class, dual-earner families (N = 194) were asked how much they expected that they (for girls) or their future partners (for boys) would work while raising children. Nearly all expected new mothers to quit their jobs or reduce their hours temporarily, which signifies either acceptance of, or ignorance of, the penalties of career interruption among girls with high occupational aspirations. Adolescents’ expectations were associated with …

The identification of 101 genes upregulated or differentially expressed by mature human oocytes is provided herein. These genes and the corresponding gene products will facilitate a greater understanding of oogenesis, folliculogenesis, fertilization, and embryonic development. In addition these genes and the corresponding gene products can be used to effect dedifferentiation and/or transdifferentiation of desired somatic cells. The resultant dedifferentiated cells and somatic cells derived therefrom can be used in cell therapies such as in the treatment of cancer, autoimmunity, and other diseases wherein specific types of cells such as hematopoietic cells may be depleted because of the underlying disease or …
