Aging is associated with left ventricular hypertrophy, dilatation, and fibrosis of the heart. The Fischer 344/Brown Norway F1 (F344/BNF1) rat is recommended for age-related studies by the National Institutes on Aging because this hybrid rat lives longer and has a lower rate of pathological conditions than inbred rats. However, little is known about age-associated changes in cardiac and aortic function and structure in this model. This study evaluated age-related cardiac changes in male F344/BNF1 rats using ECHO, gross, and microscopic examinations. Racial Identity: Toward An Integrated Developmental Psychological Perspective, Anthony L. Burrow, Jonathan G. Tubman, Marilyn J. Montgomery

This article outlines current knowledge and lines of research regarding racial identity and, in particular, African American racial identity. A developmental psychological framework is proposed as a means of integrating and synthesizing 2 lines of racial identity research that have emerged within the existing literature: (a) the developmental line of research and (b) the adjustment outcome line of research. The proposed integration of the current racial identity research will emphasize the interdependency of developmental mechanisms, outcome processes, and identity trajectories among minority individuals, and highlight the significance of those identities for individuals across their life spans. The Psychology Behind Case Briefing: A Powerful Cognitive Schema, Leah M. Christensen

This article will first examine why case reading and analysis is challenging to new law students. It will then introduce "schema" theory as it is understood in the field of cognitive psychology and explore how it applies to legal case analysis. Finally, this article will offer various suggestions about how we can enhance our students' analytical skills. By learning more about the science behind cognition and how it applies to our students, we can increase our students' understanding of the complex legal materials they read during their first year of law school.
