Ovarian torsion (OT) is frequently considered in the differential diagnosis of women presenting to the ED with pelvic pain, but is a relatively uncommon occurrence. While ultrasound is considered the test of choice for OT, CT may be used as an initial imaging study with undifferentiated pelvic pain. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of CT used in the diagnostic evaluation of women with proven OT. The degree of similitude or closeness between two different isolates or strains of PRRSV is very important for deciding which strains should be used for immunization, by either vaccinating with commercial vaccines or attempting to stabilize a herd with planned wt PRRSV infection. As previously known for certain important viral diseases, such as in Foot and Mouth Disease, the reciprocal (cross-) neutralization titers between two strains may be of utmost importance to establish the degree of similarity or difference between these. While thioacetate-terminated oligo(phenylene vinylene)s (OPVs) have been synthesized and employed in applications involving the formation of metal–molecule–metal junctions, the synthesis and application of potentially more versatile α,ω-dithiol OPVs have not previously been described. Here, a thiomethyl-precursor route to the synthesis of α,ω-dithiol OPVs is reported and their ability to form well-ordered self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) without the addition of exogenous deprotection reagents is described. α,ω-Dithiol OPV monolayers exhibit thicknesses consistent with molecular length and are nearly defect-free, as assayed by electrochemical measurements. During our effort to synthesize the tetrahedral Au20 cluster, we found a facile synthetic route to prepare monodisperse suspensions of ultrasmall Au clusters AuN (N < 12) using diphosphine ligands. in our monophasic and single-pot synthesis, an Au precursor ClAu(I)PPh3 (Ph = phenyl) and a bidentate phosphine ligand P(Ph)2(CH 2) M (Ph)2 are dissolved in an organic solvent. Au(I) is reduced slowly by a borane-tert-butylamine complex to form Au clusters coordinated by the diphosphine ligand. the Au clusters are characterized by both high-resolution mass spectrometry and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. We found that the mean cluster size obtained depends on the chain length M of the ligand. in particular, a single monodispersed Au11 cluster is obtained with the P(Ph)2(CH2)3P(Ph)2 ligand, whereas P(Ph)2(CH2) MP (Ph)2 ligands with M = 5 and 6 yield Au10 and Au8 clusters. the simplicity of our synthetic method makes it suitable for large-scale production of nearly monodisperse ultrasmall Au clusters. It is suggested that diphosphines provide a set of flexible ligands to allow size-controlled synthesis of Au nanoparticles. © 2006 American Chemical Society.

Crude Oil Sludge Degradation in Microcosmic Scale: Simple Simulation as Preliminary Study on Land Treatment Bioremediation. A study in microcosmic condition has been carried out to evaluate the bacterial hydrocarbonoclastic capability in increasing the oil sludge degradation being mixed with NPK fertilizer as nitrogen resources. Aerobic test was carried out by putting erlenmeyers in a shaker incubator, 120 rpm shaking speed, at 50°C temperature. While 150 days in microcosmic one observation showed that the consortium has the potential to grow up to 50% (v/v) sludge oil load. Allium cepa bulbs were grown in pure tap water (Group I), in five concentrations (10^-1M to 10^-5M) of aluminium chloride in the absence (Group II) and in the presence (Group III) of myrobalan (fruit of Terminalia chebula) at a fix concentration of 0.10 mg/ml. Parameters of study were mean root length (after 72 hr) and mitotic index, abnormal mistosis, chromosomal aberrations and nucleolar morphology (after 48 hr). AlCl₃ at all concentrations except at 10^-1M where roots did not grew at all, significantly lowered root growth and mitotic index, effect appeared concentration dependent …
