Leadership Styles And Volunteer Administration Competence: Perceptions Of 4-H County Faculty In The United States, Nicole Lp Stedman, Rick Rudd
Leadership Styles And Volunteer Administration Competence: Perceptions Of 4-H County Faculty In The United States, Nicole Lp Stedman, Rick Rudd
Journal of Extension
The study described here sought to determine the perceived leadership style of 4-H county faculty. There were 238 county 4-H faculty randomly selected to participate. Participants completed three Web-based questionnaires, the Volunteer Administration Leadership Competency Instrument, the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, and a demographic instrument. Regression models predicted transformational, transactional, and laissez faire leadership. The importance of systems leadership (ß=.97) and organizational leadership (ß=-.94) contributed the most to transformational leadership. Proficiency in organizational leadership (ß=-6.24) contributed to transactional leadership. The importance of organizational culture (ß=1.10) and commitment to the profession importance (ß=-.85) contributed to the prediction of laissez faire leadership.

The Egyptian Popular Committee In Solidarity With The Palestinian Intifada: A Social Movement, Hebatallah Mahmoud El KalaʻAwy
Archived Theses and Dissertations
The thesis explores the Egyptian Popular Committee in Solidarity with the Palestinian J nti fada in reference to contemporary theories of social movements. It attempts to analyze the EPCSP from two perspectives. One is by discussing the objectives, internal structure and activities of the committee in light of the characteristics of new social movements and the other is by analyzing resources mobilized by the committee such as the alliance of different political trends, the integration of professional syndicates into the different activities, the establishment of branches of the committee in various governorates and the use of advanced technology in enhancing …

The Problematic Of Generating Anthropological Knowledge: A Case Study Of A Health And Gender Development Project In Rural Egypt, Tonje Holm
Archived Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores how boarder guards limits the amount of knowledge an anthropologist really can obtain doing research. The research is based upon a concrete case study in Egypt where local and national government bodies "border guard" how knowledge is gained within a development project. This research shows how although anthropological knowledge and research provide a body of theory within which policy is created the policy should come with a "health warning". Field research undoubtedly give more information than so called "armchair" research, but it is far from giving the policy makers the full picture of the society, or project …

Agencies Of Hegemonization And Global Social Control, Moustafa A Wahdan
Agencies Of Hegemonization And Global Social Control, Moustafa A Wahdan
Archived Theses and Dissertations
Globalization is just an Americanized new mode of western hegemonic imperialism that used to dominate not only the periphery's lands through armies but also and more essentially to control minds. However, the American Hegemonic brand is just continuing the mission of the earlier European and particularly British imperialism. Various agencies of socialization and social control are the most effective tools that usually yield great deal of power to whoever controls them. Using a lot of sources we portray how education- among various agencies of socialization and social control- was launched to produce generations of culturally defeated, mentally colonized and submissive …

Cleaning Up After The Storm: Lessons Learned From The Experiences Of Disaster Volunteers After The May 2004 Storms In Southeast Nebraska, Denise Bulling, Stacey Hoffman, Elissa Dahlberg
Cleaning Up After The Storm: Lessons Learned From The Experiences Of Disaster Volunteers After The May 2004 Storms In Southeast Nebraska, Denise Bulling, Stacey Hoffman, Elissa Dahlberg
University of Nebraska Public Policy Center: Publications
A survey was sent to clean-up volunteers 17 months after they helped with debris removal from an area in Nebraska devastated by tornadoes. The survey asked about their experiences and perceptions related to that volunteer work. The 622 respondents offered suggestions to enhance the processes used to deploy and supervise disaster clean-up volunteers. These respondents were generally older and more educated than the demographics of the area would suggest. They reported being motivated to volunteer primarily for altruistic reasons and generally had positive experiences. Those volunteers who reported experiencing some distress as a result of their disaster volunteer experience were …

Online Clustering With Single-Pass Topology Based Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm, Abhishek Jaiantilal
Online Clustering With Single-Pass Topology Based Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm, Abhishek Jaiantilal
Theses
Online clustering is of significant interest for real-time data analysis. Generic offline clustering methods such as K-Means, C-Means and others are computationally expensive. The computational burden of these methods increases non-linearly with the size of the data set. In addition these methods usually require a good amount of supervised knowledge yielding a non-unique solution. For real-time data analysis, there is an important tradeoff between accuracy and computational efficiency. An unsupervised one-pass clustering method that efficiently adapts to data distribution and evaluation is proposed. This method, Topology-Based Fuzzy Clustering (TFC), uses the topology of data to discover clusters. TFC uses the …

Navigating The Rules Of Clinical Practicum Work: An Interpretive Study Of The Experiences Of Associate Degree Nursing Students, Leonie L. Sutherland Phd
Navigating The Rules Of Clinical Practicum Work: An Interpretive Study Of The Experiences Of Associate Degree Nursing Students, Leonie L. Sutherland Phd
Dissertations
Responding to changes in technology, economics, and the demographics of society, nurse leaders incorporate new ideas and systems into clinical practice. Nurse educators are challenged to adopt these ideas and systems and make them part of the nursing curriculum. Educators develop tools and strategies to help students gain knowledge and skills to work with patients in the clinical setting. The ways in which students use these tools and perceive and manage their clinical work is not understood. The dearth of research related to what students actually do in clinical practicum settings provided the backdrop for this study. This is a …
