A Legal Career For All Seasons: Remembering St. Thomas More’S Vocation, Veryl Victoria Miles Jan 2006

A Legal Career For All Seasons: Remembering St. Thomas More’S Vocation, Veryl Victoria Miles

Scholarly Articles

The vast majority of the work taking place in most law schools is the preparation of law students for the practice of law; namely, to teach legal theory and doctrine, legal analysis, writing, and advocacy. In sum, the goal of most law schools is to teach the many different skills required in law practice and the professional rules of legal ethics. What appears to be lacking in the preparation of future lawyers are lessons on how to incorporate this vast amount of specialized learning and skill in ways that will be harmonious with the personal, moral, and ethical values that …

Nebraska Law Review

Regulation of lawyer conduct in the State of Nebraska. Upon the Nebraska Supreme Court's adoption of the Nebraska Rules of Professional Conduct ("Nebraska Rules") through its ruling on In re Petition of the Nebraska State Bar Association to Adopt Rules of Professional Conduct Governing Attorneys, the state shed its distinct position as one of only six jurisdictions not yet utilizing some form of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The new system represents the first complete revision of the professional ethical standards to which Nebraska lawyers are held accountable since the adoption of the Code of Professional Responsibility ("Nebraska …

Corporate Investigations, Attorney-Client Privilege, And Selective Waiver: Is A Half-Privilege Worth Having At All?, Colin P. Marks

Seattle University Law Review

This article will explore both the various problems that arise with a policy that essentially mandates waiver of the attorney-client privilege as well as the limited appeal of the selective waiver theory as a compromise position. It concludes that selective waiver is inadequate in addressing the many problems created by policies that coerce waiver and that a more desirable solution is to eliminate or amend the governmental policies that coerce waiver. Part II of this article explains and explores the metes and bounds of the attorney-client privilege and work-product protection. Part III explains the development of the selective waiver theory, …

Legal Representation Of Birth Parents And Adoptive Parents, Elizabeth Samuels Jan 2006

Legal Representation Of Birth Parents And Adoptive Parents, Elizabeth Samuels

All Faculty Scholarship

The Article examines the role that legal representation of birth and prospective parents may or may not play in independent domestic adoptions in furthering two primary goals that characterize ethically and humanely conducted adoptions, deliberate decision making and finality. Ideally, these two goals are complementary and can be balanced with one another. There is, however, a danger of the second goal eclipsing the first. Many state laws appear to value an increase in infant adoptions over the goal of encouraging careful deliberation. Most domestic infant adoptions involve powerful market forces as well as powerful emotional pressures, and they occur in …

Collaboration In Resource Sharing Among Malaysian Academic Libraries In A Digital Environment, Harvinder Kaur, Kiran Kaur, Diljit Singh

Research Publications (2006 to 2010)

The need for resource sharing among libraries has become even more important today with constraints of finance, space, and manpower. From the interviews conducted, it was noted that librarians were aware of and support the concept of resource sharing. Current resource sharing activities in …
