The Relationship Between Self-Efficacy, Other-Efficacy, And Relation-Inferred Self-Efficacy With Performance In Soccer, Jennifer Cilz Aug 2006

The Relationship Between Self-Efficacy, Other-Efficacy, And Relation-Inferred Self-Efficacy With Performance In Soccer, Jennifer Cilz

Theses and Dissertations

This study assessed the relationships between other-efficacy, relation-inferred self-efficacy, self-efficacy, and performance. The participants were three head coaches and 40 athletes from three NCAA women’s soccer teams. New measures of self-efficacy, other-efficacy, and relation-inferred self-efficacy were developed using Bandura’s guidelines. Performance was measured by the number of times the athletes completed a soccer task successfully. Analysis indicated that none of the efficacy measures could predict performance. Results did show a significant con-elation between relation-inferred self-efficacy and the self-efficacy measures, indicating that the self-efficacy an athlete has to perfonn a task was similar to what they perceived their coaches’ perceptions would …

Granisetron Effectiveness On Postoperative Nausea And Vomiting And The Need For Rescue Antiemetics, Julie A. Bolduc

Theses and Dissertations

An estimated 20-30% of all surgery patients experience postoperative nausea and vomiting. These percentages could affect more than one million patients every year. The purpose of this study was to look at the effectiveness of low dose granisetron, a common antiemetic used for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). This chart review looked at patients between the ages of 18-70 that had undergone open cholecystectomy and abdominal hysterectomy surgeries at a midwestern rural hospital. This study evaluated those patients that received granisetron and the need for additional antiemetics in the first 24 hours after surgery. This was a retrospective chart review …

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

To investigate the potential functional cooperation between p27Kip1 and p130 in vivo, we generated mice deficient for both p27Kip1 and p130. In p27Kip1−/−;p130−/− mice, the cellularity of the spleens but not the thymi is significantly increased compared with that of their p27Kip1−/− counterparts, affecting the lymphoid, erythroid, and myeloid compartments. In vivo cell proliferation is significantly augmented in the B and T cells, monocytes, macrophages, and erythroid progenitors in the spleens of p27Kip1−/−; p130−/− animals. Immunoprecipitation and immunodepletion studies indicate that p130 can compensate for the absence …

Mbet3p Is Required For Homotypic Copii Vesicle Tethering In Mammalian Cells, Sidney Yu, Ayano Satoh, Marc Pypaert, Karl Mullen, Jesse C. Hay, Susan Ferro-Novick Jul 2006

Mbet3p Is Required For Homotypic Copii Vesicle Tethering In Mammalian Cells, Sidney Yu, Ayano Satoh, Marc Pypaert, Karl Mullen, Jesse C. Hay, Susan Ferro-Novick

Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

TRAPPI is a large complex that mediates the tethering of COPII vesicles to the Golgi (heterotypic tethering) in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In mammalian cells, COPII vesicles derived from the transitional endoplasmic reticulum (tER) do not tether directly to the Golgi, instead, they appear to tether to each other ( homotypic tethering) to form vesicular tubular clusters (VTCs). We show that mammalian Bet3p (mBet3p), which is the most highly conserved TRAPP subunit, resides on the tER and adjacent VTCs. The inactivation of mBet3p results in the accumulation of cargo in membranes that colocalize with the COPII coat. Furthermore, using an …

The Role Of The Nurse Practitioner In The Use Of Homeopathy In Healthcare, Misty Mathis Harris

MSN Research Projects

Homeopathy is the administration of diluted substances, derived from plants, minerals, or animal products, that would in a healthy person induce symptoms of the disease treated (Skinner, 1996). Samuel Hahnermann, the founder of homeopathy, insisted that homeopathy is the restoration of the bioenergetic field surrounding the life force (Skinner, 1996) . The purpose of this project was to develop a nurse practitioner knowledgebase regarding the use of homeopathy. Martha Rogers' Theory of Unitary Human Beings served as the theoretical foundation for this clinical project and guided the systematic review of literature. The Role Of The Nurse Pracitioner In End Of Life Care, Caryn Alison Johnson

MSN Research Projects

Although advances in medical technology have increased the average lifespan of the elderly population, many patients do not receive assistance at the end of life, and suffer with avoidable pain and distress. Practitioners and researchers have identified the need for further research to improve the quality of EOLC. Research shows that the NP may be the best choice of hospital staff to initiate EOLC discussions and decisions with patients and their families. For this reason, it is likely that the role of the NP in EOLC will expand to a specialty focus in the near future. Therefore, the purpose of …
