Community Structure, Faunal Distribution, And Environmental Forcing Of The Extinction Of Marine Molluscs In The Pliocene San Joaquin Basin, Central California, John Richard Bowersox
Community Structure, Faunal Distribution, And Environmental Forcing Of The Extinction Of Marine Molluscs In The Pliocene San Joaquin Basin, Central California, John Richard Bowersox
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study focuses on reconstructing the dynamics within the Pliocene San Joaquin Basin (SJB) molluscan fauna. This was accomplished by 'binning' the data within a constrained chronostratigraphic framework into: 1) 484 individual stratigraphically-ordered locality collections; 2.) 116 stratigraphically-sequential compiled ten-meter sample intervals; 3.) 15 intervals compiled by 4th-order eustatic cycles; 4.) three formation-level compiled samples; and 5.) the Etchegoin group fauna (informal San Joaquin Basin nomenclature) overall. These datasets were analyzed by inferential, multivariate, and descriptive statistics to examine local and regional environmental controls on faunal composition, community associations and distributions; cross-scale faunal structure; and large-scale environmental controls on immigration, …
Storm-Influenced Sediment Transport Gradients On A Nourished Beach, Nicole A. Elko
Storm-Influenced Sediment Transport Gradients On A Nourished Beach, Nicole A. Elko
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Beach nourishment provides an excellent opportunity for the study of intensified sediment transport gradients and associated morphological changes in a natural setting. The objectives of this study are to quantify and predict longshore and cross-shore transport gradients induced by 1) beach nourishment, 2) different storm wave conditions, and 3) the annual wave climate and long-term sediment supply. The details of sediment transport rates and gradients induced by gradual processes and high-energy events are analyzed on a macro-scale. Well-planned monitoring of the 2004 Upham Beach nourishment project in west-central Florida collected high-spatial and -temporal resolution field data. Three hurricanes passed by …
Aqueous Geochemistry Of Springs Along Peters Mountain In Monroe County, West Virginia., Brian G. Richards
Aqueous Geochemistry Of Springs Along Peters Mountain In Monroe County, West Virginia., Brian G. Richards
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
A hydrologic and hydrochemical investigation of aquifer characteristics beneath Peters Mountain in Monroe County, West Virginia is presented. Hydrologic zones were classified into three groups based on surface geology. Springs and seeps were located within the Second Creek and Indian Creek watersheds and their waters analyzed for chemistry to interpret the similarities and differences between springs. The three geological classes were Silurian/Devonian clastic rocks on the east slopes of Peters Mountain (Group 1), the Martinsburg Formation near the top of Peters Mountain (Group 2), and Ordovician carbonate aquifers on the west slopes of Peters Mountain (Group 3). Groundwater chemistry differed …
