Bathymetric And Spatial Distribution Of Echinoderms On Seamounts In The Gulf Of Alaska, Danielle Parker Underwood
Bathymetric And Spatial Distribution Of Echinoderms On Seamounts In The Gulf Of Alaska, Danielle Parker Underwood
Fisheries
The bathymetric and spatial distribution of echinoderms was examined on five seamounts in the Kodiak-Bowie seamount chain in the northern Gulf of Alaska from video transects of 200 or 500 m length, conducted at approximately 700, 1700 and 2700 m depths with the DSV Alvin in August, 2004. Temperature and salinity varied significantly with depth, but not between seamounts; an oxygen minimum zone encompassed the shallowest depth sampled. Holothuroid (Pannychia and Psolus) and asteroid density for the shallower depth category was 19.94·100 m⁻² and 2.07·100 m⁻², significantly higher than at the deeper depths. Asteroid density generally decreased northwesterly along the …

Geomorphologic Evaluation Of The Gulf Of Mexico, Northwest Garden Banks, And Supra/Inter/Subsalt Architectural Influences On Possible Reservoir Characterization From The Miocene To Pleistocene Epochs, Sheri Sullivan
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This study describes the geomorphology and characterizes the sequence stratigraphy of deep-water depositional elements and salt interactions in the northwest Garden Banks region with a focus on the Miocene epoch. The use of 2D and 3D data for the analysis of sediment feeders, shelf-margin location, timing of salt diapirism, faulting, and fluid migration can lend useful clues to the spatial patterns of plays. The 3D data focus mainly on blocks 236, 237, 191, 192, and 193. The 2D seismic data, while less precise, are used in conjunction with 3D seismics for an overview of the surrounding area. Some logs are …

A Stratigraphic And Geochronologic Analysis Of The Morrison Formation/Cedar Mountain Formation Boundary, Utah, Brent W. Greenhalgh
A Stratigraphic And Geochronologic Analysis Of The Morrison Formation/Cedar Mountain Formation Boundary, Utah, Brent W. Greenhalgh
Theses and Dissertations
The Lower Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation preserves several vertebrate faunas and has the potential of providing critical timing information pertaining to Early Cretaceous dinosaurs and the Sierran magmatic arc. Historically, the Morrison/Cedar Mountain contact and the duration of the unconformity between them have been difficult or impossible to determine because 1) the formations were deposited in similar environments, 2) the basal Cedar Mountain Formation is composed of reworked Morrison Formation, and 3) there are no radiometric ages for the lower Cedar Mountain Formation. A stratigraphic study through central Utah reveals a diagnostic suite of pedogenic and sedimentologic characters across the …

Geologic Map And Structural Analysis Of The Twin Rocks 7.5 Minute Quadrangle, Wayne County, Utah, Samuel C. Sorber
Theses and Dissertations
A new geologic map of the Twin Rocks 7.5 minute quadrangle primarily located within Capitol Reef National Park, south-central Utah, provides stratigraphic and structural detail not previously available. This map has also been instrumental in understanding the evolution and development of fluvial terraces associated with Sulfur Creek and the structural geology of the backlimb of the Miners Mountain uplift. Nine bedrock stratigraphic formations and eight types of Quaternary deposits were mapped throughout the quadrangle. Bedrock stratigraphy ranges in age from Permian to Jurassic. New details absent on previous geologic maps include members of the Chinle and Moenkopi Formations and the …
Simulation Of Socio-Economic Impacts Due To Seismic Damage Of Tehran Water Network, Reza Rasti, Farshad Vazinram
Simulation Of Socio-Economic Impacts Due To Seismic Damage Of Tehran Water Network, Reza Rasti, Farshad Vazinram
Geohazards
In recent years, the massive losses caused due to big earthquakes in urban areas. These cause significant casualties and losses. The economic losses exceed several billions dollars per year. The loss may be categorized in two types of direct and indirect loss. Direct economic losses occur just during the earthquakes or immediately after them. Indirect losses are resulted from direct losses. These losses are obtained in Tehran due to damage of Water Network. A scenario earthquake that would severely damage the city is assumed. The acceleration and velocities are determined in Tehran GIS map. The vulnerability coefficient for pipe via …

A Geological Interpretation Of 3d Seismic Data Of A Salt Structure And Subsalt Horizons In The Mississippi Canyon Subdivision Of The Gulf Of Mexico, Mariela Mejias
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The Gulf of Mexico (GOM) represents a challenge for exploration and production. Most of the sediments coming from North America has bypassed the shelf margin into Deep Water. In an Attempt to attack this challenge this thesis pretends to break the GOM's false bottom, mainly comprised by diverse salt structures and growth fault families. In this attempt, geological and geophysical data are integrated to find clues to potential hydrocarbons indicator (PHI) that could be of Reservoir Quality (RQ). 3D Pre stack depth migrated data comprised of Mississippi Canyon blocks, were interpreted: Top and base of salt, leading to the identification …
A Study Of Carasaurus' (Dinosaura: Sauropodomorph) Torso And Its Biomechanical Implications, Jacqueline Mary Wood
A Study Of Carasaurus' (Dinosaura: Sauropodomorph) Torso And Its Biomechanical Implications, Jacqueline Mary Wood
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Physical examination of the articulations between the dorsal vertebrae and the dorsal ribs of the sauropod dinosaur Camarasaurus (Upper Cretaceous, Wyoming or whatever) shows that the dorsal vertebral column has a slight double curve and the torso is more narrow and volumetrically smaller than previously reconstructed. The shape of the dorsal vertebrae series was based upon the position of the zygopophyses and centrum spacing. The dorsal ribs were placed on the vertebrae based upon the position of tuberculum/diapophysis, capitulum/parapophysis, and the lateral edge of the rib head. Comparisons between the articulated torso of Camarasaurus and extant relatives allowed for the …
Animal Husbandry At Tell El Hesi (Israel): Results From Zooarchaeological And Isotopic Analysis, Shannon Marie Peck-Janssen
Animal Husbandry At Tell El Hesi (Israel): Results From Zooarchaeological And Isotopic Analysis, Shannon Marie Peck-Janssen
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Located in today’s southern Israel, Tell el Hesi provides archaeologists with important clues to political and social changes in the ancient Near East. Zooarchaeological and stable isotopic analyses were conducted to evaluate shifts in animal husbandry practices during changing socioeconomic and sociopolitical conditions in the southern Levant.
During the Early Bronze Age, Tell el Hesi thrived as an agricultural grain producing center for the southern Levant. The acropolis served as both a storage and redistribution center for the inhabitants of Tell el Hesi. Coinciding with the collapse of the southern Levant, Tell el Hesi was abandoned throughout the Middle Bronze …

An Evaluation Of The Along Track Reef Imaging System (Atris) For Efficient Reef Monitoring And Rapid Groundtruthing Of Eaarl Lidar, Nicole O. Caesar
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The Along-Track Reef-Imaging System (ATRIS) is a vessel-mounted, digital camera, depth sounder and Global Positioning System (GPS) package that facilitates the rapid capture of underwater images in shallow-water benthic environments. This technology has the potential to collect ecologically significant data, particularly in benthic habitats less than 10 m in depth, with better location referencing and in less time than is required for surveys carried out by Scuba divers. In October 2004, ATRIS was tested coincidently with SCUBA-assisted video along transects on five patch reefs in Biscayne National Park. Images from both data sets were subsampled, viewed, and benthic cover under …

Seeing Through The Noise: Seismic Reflection Profiling In Urban Areas, Lee M. Liberty, Thomas L. Pratt, Scott S. Hess
Seeing Through The Noise: Seismic Reflection Profiling In Urban Areas, Lee M. Liberty, Thomas L. Pratt, Scott S. Hess
CGISS Publications and Presentations
Studies for urban hazard or resource assessment often take place in densely populated areas characterized by considerable cultural noise. These site conditions can severely compromise seismic reflection data quality. We have collected vibroseis and hammer (weight drop) seismic reflection data in a range of geologic conditions to image stratigraphy and structures in the upper one km along regional highways, city streets, and power line access roads. In addition to the challenges of safety and outreach, acquisition efforts along busy streets and highways often encounter poor receiver coupling and large-amplitude coherent noise from traffic and power lines. Although higher quality seismic reflection …

Mapping Of A Detachment Fault In Kythera Island And Study Of The Related Structural Shear Sense Indicators, Antonios Marsellos
Mapping Of A Detachment Fault In Kythera Island And Study Of The Related Structural Shear Sense Indicators, Antonios Marsellos
Geology Theses and Dissertations
Kythera Island is located on the prominent submarine horst between Crete and the Peloponnese in the southwestern part of the Aegean. The structure of Kythera is characterized by a pile of tectonic slices derived from different paleogeographic zones. The upper unmetamorphosed units comprise pelagic limestones and cherts of Pindos zone emplaced by thrusting in the Eocene on top of Tripolis zone neritic limestones. These units are separated from the lower metamorphosed unit of Phyllite-Quartzite (PQU) exposed in the northern part of Kythera by an extensional detachment fault of Late Miocene age. The lower tectonic unit of PQU was affected by …
