Segmental Sinusoidal Model For Speech Signal Coding, Florentinus Budi Setiawan, Soegijardjo Soegijoko, Sugihartono Sugihartono, Suhartono Tjondronegoro

Makara Journal of Technology

Segmental Sinusoidal Model for Speech Signal Coding. Periodic signal can be decomposed by sinusoidal component with Fourier series. With this characteristic, it can be modeled referring by sinusoidal form. By the sinusoidal model, signal can be quantized in order to encode the speech signal at the lower rate. The recent sinusoidal method is implemented in speech coding. By using this method, a block of the speech signal with 20 ms to 30 ms width is coded based on Fourier series coefficients. The new method proposed is quantization and reconstruction of speech signal by the segmental sinusoidal model. A segment is …

A Critique Of The Link Approach To Exact Lattice Supersymmetry, Simon Catterall, Falk Bruckmann, Mark De Kok Nov 2006

A Critique Of The Link Approach To Exact Lattice Supersymmetry, Simon Catterall, Falk Bruckmann, Mark De Kok

Physics - All Scholarship

We examine the link approach to constructing a lattice theory of N=2 super Yang Mills theory in two dimensions. The goal of this construction is to provide a discretization of the continuum theory which preserves all supersymmetries at non-zero lattice spacing. We show that this approach suffers from an inconsistency and argue that a maximum of just one of the supersymmetries can be implemented on the lattice.

Collaborative Agent Design (CAD) Research Center

Over the past decade CDM Technologies, Inc. (CDM) in conjunction with the Collaborative Agent Design Research Center (CADRC) at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, has developed a suite of information-centric software tools in support of military deployment and distribution processes. All of these tools feature agents that are capable of reasoning about data in the context provided by an internal information model. Together they represent an evolving suite of adaptive Knowledge Management Enterprise Services (KMES) that can be readily configured into a net-centric planning and decision-support toolset for a particular application domain.

The goal is to provide an additional forum for communication, and provide updates about the program's development, faculty, students, alumni, and friends.

Mary And The Koran, William Paul Haas Nov 2006

Mary And The Koran, William Paul Haas

Community Scholar Publications

It is surprising to many Christians that the sacred writings of Mohammed refer to Mary, the mother of Jesus, with such profound respect, even reverence. The Koran stands as a remarkable witness to the Christian and Muslim conviction that Mary played an intimate part in God’s plans for all of mankind. Mary is mentioned by name in the Koran about 35 times, and Jesus is often called, Jesus, the son of Mary. There are, of course, vast differences between the Christian view of Mary and the Islamic view, yet there is no reason to believe that Mohammed deliberately misrepresented any …

Policy Tools For Smart Growth In New England, New England Environmental Finance Center Nov 2006

Policy Tools For Smart Growth In New England, New England Environmental Finance Center

Smart Growth

Across New England communities have been experiencing a rapid outward surge of development away from our community and downtown centers. Effects of sprawl include a loss of wildlife habitat, farm and timber lands; increased costs of community services and higher taxes; auto-dependency, longer commutes, and increased congestion; increases in air and water pollution; a sedentary lifestyle and increased obesity; and losses to one’s sense of place and social ties.

State-level responses to sprawl have surfaced throughout New England in recent years. This report describes 11 examples of these responses, representing all six New England states and a diversity of recent …
