On Healing And Christianity: An Examination Of Origen And Tertullian's Views On Healing And Christianity, Brian L. Brunner

Doctor of Ministry

This paper examines the theological and practical views of Origen and Tertullian on the relationship between healing and Christianity. Its introduction examines the reason for the study, outlines research into this field, and explains the research method utilized. The following two chapters devoted to Origen and Tertullian begin by examining the role of healing in their theology. The chapters then move to a discussion of their understanding and view on the nascent Western medical science found in the Greco-Roman world. Each chapter then ends with a look at their views on the role of faith healing. All of these subjects …

Public Price Reporting, Marketing Channel Selection And Price Discovery: The Perspective Of Cow/Calf Producers In The Dakotas, Scott Fausti, Bashir Qasmi, Doug Landblom, Martin Beutler, Pat Johnson, Roger Gates, Hubert Patterson, R. Salverson

Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)

Cow/calf producers operating in the Dakotas were surveyed on their price discovery strategies, marketing channel preferences, and their perceptions of how regime change in the public price reporting system for fed cattle affected the beef industry in general and the cow/calf industry in particular. Survey results indicate cow/calf producers consider local institutions (auction barns etc.) to be more reliable for price discovery and marketing their feeder and stocker cattle than regional or national institutions (futures market etc.). Consistent with this view, producers perceive that the current public price reporting system is less reliable than local market sources when making individual …

The Grazing Of Goats In The Pastoral Areas Of Western Australia : Best Management Practice Guidelines, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia

Land resources best practice series

The Land Administration Act 1997 (LAA) requires a pastoralist to manage and work the land within a pastoral lease to its best advantage and use methods of best pastoral and environmental management practices to achieve sustainable land use. For the purposes of the pastoral provisions in Part 7 of the LAA, a distinction is made between authorised and prohibited stock. Recent amendments of the classification of goats, from prohibited stock to authorised stock, require that a best practice management framework be developed to ensure future sustainability of the industry. This document recognises the existence of a de facto managed goat …

When It’S Bad Cess To Assess!, Jay Freyman Apr 2006

When It’S Bad Cess To Assess!, Jay Freyman

Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council Online Archive

It seems to me that efforts at outcome assessment in higher education are deficient because of a failure to understand what exactly it is that is being or should be assessed. Certainly, the object of such assessment should not be what, if anything, the student has learned in courses; grades for course work, grade inflation notwithstanding, should suffice to tell that tale.

Business And Educational Values, Jeffrey Portnoy Apr 2006

Business And Educational Values, Jeffrey Portnoy

Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council Online Archive

In “Saving Honors in the Age of Standardization,” Linda Frost astutely observes the confluence of two disturbing trends in higher education that are generating a current so deep and swift that one wonders if resistance is possible: the business model for education and the standardization of educational processes, especially through testing. Hardly an issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education appears without an article or discussion featuring business practices or business leaders dominating the landscape of this or that college or university. Rarely does a meeting with or missive from an administrator not include some element directly connected to one …

Ecophysiolgoical Responses Of Schizachyrium Scoparium To Water And Nitrogen Manipulations, Amy Kochsiek, Veronica Ciganda, Neal Bryan, Lena Hite, Tala Awada Apr 2006

Ecophysiolgoical Responses Of Schizachyrium Scoparium To Water And Nitrogen Manipulations, Amy Kochsiek, Veronica Ciganda, Neal Bryan, Lena Hite, Tala Awada

Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)

Nitrogen is increasing in terrestrial ecosystems as a result of agricultural practices and the burning of fossil fuels. This increase is expected to be accompanied by changes in water availability due to global warming. We examined the effects of nitrogen and water manipulations on Schizachyrium scoparium, one of the dominant grasses in the Great Plains. Schizachyrium scoparium responded positively to watering, with an increase in photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, water and nitrogen use efficiencies, and water potential. Under watered conditions, fertilization had no significant effect on measured parameters, except for nitrogen-use efficiency. Significant differences appeared between fertilized and nonfertilized plants …

Grazing And Military Vehicle Effects On Grassland Soils And Vegetation, John A. Guretzky, Alan Anderson, Jeffrey Fehmi Apr 2006

Grazing And Military Vehicle Effects On Grassland Soils And Vegetation, John A. Guretzky, Alan Anderson, Jeffrey Fehmi

Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)

Vehicle training, a common disturbance of military lands, is part of a suite of land uses that also includes cattle grazing. Yet, no studies have examined their interaction. Our objective was to review the effects of vehicle training and grazing on grassland soils and vegetation and develop a state-and-transition model that incorporates grazing and training for Fort Hood, TX. Both grazing and training can cause soil compaction and vegetation disturbance, altering hydrology and increasing erosion. While the effects of grazing largely depend on stocking rate, vehicle training causes greater disturbance when wet soils are driven on, when vehicles are turned …

Review Of Windswept: A Passionate View Of The Prairie Grasslands Text And Photographs By Wayne Lynch, Jane Austin Apr 2006

Review Of Windswept: A Passionate View Of The Prairie Grasslands Text And Photographs By Wayne Lynch, Jane Austin

Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)

Many people never visit the vast grasslands of the midcontinent, or they cross it with scant attention, speeding down major highways to the more stunning scenery of the Rockies or coastlines. Common perceptions focus on the seemingly boring topography (relatively fiat), near-constant winds, and extreme temperatures. But Wayne Lynch's book of photographs and evocative text captures the subtle, dynamic beauty of the prairie landscape and provides fascinating details about the plants and animals that live there, making even those familiar with this landscape want to look more closely.

Demand Estimation For Agricultural Processing Coproducts, Cheryl Wachenheim, Patrick Novack, Eric Devuyst, David Lambert Apr 2006

Demand Estimation For Agricultural Processing Coproducts, Cheryl Wachenheim, Patrick Novack, Eric Devuyst, David Lambert

Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)

Coproducts of processing agricultural commodities are often marketed for use as livestock feed through private transaction. The resulting lack of historical price information prohibits the use of positive time series techniques to estimate demand. Linear programming is used as a normative technique to estimate step function demand schedules for coproducts by individual livestock classes. Seemingly unrelated regression is used to smooth demand schedules by fitting demand data to generalized Leontief cost functions. Estimates are adjusted for data censoring using probit analysis. Aggregate quantity demanded of sugarbeet pulp, wheat middlings, and potato waste is relatively responsive to price changes (i.e., demand …

Bison And The Food Distribution Program On Indian Reservations, David Lulka Apr 2006

Bison And The Food Distribution Program On Indian Reservations, David Lulka

Great Plains Research: A Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (through 2013)

In recent years, bison products have been incorporated into the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). This paper examines the factors leading up to this particular development and the structural problems that have yet to be resolved within the program. Altogether, the findings illustrate that cultural traditions, health problems, and economic concerns instigated the federal government to embark upon this new policy. Unfortunately, while the program has responded to tribal demands in certain respects, it has not resolved underlying structural inequalities between tribal and nontribal communities. In particular, the FDPIR does not acknowledge the problematic nature of production-consumption networks …

Six Sigma Applied To Flight Operations Quality Assurance: An Exemplar Case Study, Alan J. Stolzer, Han Wu, Carl Halford Apr 2006

Six Sigma Applied To Flight Operations Quality Assurance: An Exemplar Case Study, Alan J. Stolzer, Han Wu, Carl Halford

School of Graduate Studies - Daytona Beach

“Due to the requirement to maintain and improve the safety record of commercial air transportation in the United States (U.S.) despite increasing traffic, several proactive safety programs have been introduced in recent years. Among these proactive safety programs is a form of Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) known in the U.S. as Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA). FOQA is a program utilizing quantifiable, objective data collected from the air carrier aircraft’s data recording system. The data is then analyzed to identify trends and other indicators of potential safety problems. With few exceptions, FOQA data analysis has been rudimentary, often limited to …

Influence Of N-Linked Glycosylation Of Porcine Reproductive And Respiratory Syndrome Virus Gp5 On Virus Infectivity, Antigenicity, And Ability To Induce Neutralizing Antibodies, Israrul H. Ansari, Byungjoon Kwon, Fernando A. Osorio, Asit K. Pattnaik Apr 2006

Influence Of N-Linked Glycosylation Of Porcine Reproductive And Respiratory Syndrome Virus Gp5 On Virus Infectivity, Antigenicity, And Ability To Induce Neutralizing Antibodies, Israrul H. Ansari, Byungjoon Kwon, Fernando A. Osorio, Asit K. Pattnaik

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) glycoprotein 5 (GP5) is the most abundant envelope glycoprotein and a major inducer of neutralizing antibodies in vivo. Three putative N-linked glycosylation sites (N34, N44, and N51) are located on the GP5 ectodomain, where a major neutralization epitope also exists. To determine which of these putative sites are used for glycosylation and the role of the glycan moieties in the neutralizing antibody response, we generated a panel of GP5 mutants containing amino acid substitutions at these sites. Biochemical studies with expressed wild-type (wt) and mutant proteins revealed that the mature GP5 contains high-mannose-type …
