Effect Of Saponin Alcoholic Extract From Fenugreek Seeds On Fertility In Albino Male Mice, Enaam Alii Slman Al-Robaie, Sabah Abdulredah Al-Obaidi, Rasmia Morad Hayawi
Baghdad Science Journal
This experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of the saponin found in of alcoholic extract fenugreek seeds on fertility in albino male mice through the the follow-up of the physiological and histological changes which may be shown on some reproductive organs. Animals were orally treated by daily 0.1 ml dose for 35 days by two different concentration doses (0.5 and 1.5 mg/ml) of alcoholic extract of saponin from fenugreek seeds. After 35 days of treatment, blood and tissue samples were studied. After examination and analysis the following results have been reached A significant (P<0.05) increases was found in mean of weight of epididymis diameter of seminiferous tubules and epididymal tubes, thickness of endothelial cells of epididymis, and number of spermstogonia and leydig cells. Concentration of sperm produced and levels of testosterone and interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH) were also significantly high in treated mice when compared with the control group. No significant differences were found in mean body weight, weight of testes percentage of live sperm and level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in treated and control groups. From the above mentioned outcomes we could conclude that saponin found in the fenugreek seeds may have a positive effect on some of the fertility factors in albino male mice.
Funny Ha-Ha Or Funny Strange: The Structure And Meaning Of Laughter In Conversation, Linda Houts-Smith
Funny Ha-Ha Or Funny Strange: The Structure And Meaning Of Laughter In Conversation, Linda Houts-Smith
Theses and Dissertations
Although laughter has been studied for centuries, the work has occurred in several different fields, and the lack of an interdisciplinary approach has hindered the integration of results. Work in philosophy has focused on why we laugh but has lacked a basis in empirical data, resulting in ungrounded theories. Studies in neuroscience and linguistics rest on empirical data, but stop short of a full description of the phenomenon of laughter, focusing on when and how we laugh, but not why. This study seeks to describe the phenomenon of laughter more fully, to describe both the nature of the laughable and …
The Lived Experiences Of Three Student Teachers In A Birth-Third Grade Teacher Licensure Program, Kathleen A. Sonsteng
The Lived Experiences Of Three Student Teachers In A Birth-Third Grade Teacher Licensure Program, Kathleen A. Sonsteng
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to discover themes in the experience, behavior, and attitude of three students in a Birth-Third Grade Teacher Licensure Program, at a specific midwestern university, as the students were involved in their primary-level student teaching experience. In looking at the lived experiences of these three student teachers, the focus was on their level of confidence and preparedness before, during, and after student teaching.
This qualitative study used a phenomenological research approach. The phenomenon in this particular study is the primary-level student teaching experience. This study sought understanding of what this student teaching experience was for …
Effectiveness Of Aquatic Phytoremediation Of Nutrients Via Watercress (Nasturtium Officinale), Basil (Ocimum Basilicum), Dill (Anethum Graveolens) And Lettuce (Lactuca Sativa) From Effluent Of A Flow-Through Aquaculture Operation, Derek J. Dyer
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Effluent from the aquaculture industry is a source of nutrient loading upon water bodies nationwide. Aquaponics, the simultaneous cultivation of fish and plants, has the potential to effectively reduce nutrient concentrations through phytoremediation, with the added benefit of producing a valuable crop. The purpose of this preliminary research was to determine if watercress ( Nasturtium officinale) could be used to reduce nutrients from aquaculture effluent in sufficient concentrations to be functional as a remediation technique. Additionally, basil (Ocimum basilicum), dill (Anethum graveolens) and lettuce (Lactuca sativa) were correspondingly examined. Conditions which affected plant growth versus nutrient remediation were also to …
American Standard, John A. Pascarella
American Standard, John A. Pascarella
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The work included in my MFA thesis exhibition entitled " American Standard" examines our role as narrative-based individuals within the American culture. In this current body of work I use the photographic image as a director uses the medium of film (moving image). Location scouting, casting, lighting, directing, editing, and processing all become intricate parts of the work, all to lead to a single solitary frozen moment in time that I believe creates a story. Story as created not in a fictional sense, but more in the vein of creative non-fiction, as the stories I tell come from a personal …
Second-Order Perfectionism, Cass R. Sunstein
Second-Order Perfectionism, Cass R. Sunstein
Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series
In constitutional law, first-order perfectionism represents an effort to cast the Constitution’s ideals in the best constructive light. Ronald Dworkin's conception of law as "integrity" can be seen as a form of first-order perfectionism. By contrast, second-order perfectionism attempts to set out an account of constitutional adjudication that is sensitive to the fallibility of federal judges. Originalism is best defended as a form of second-order perfectionism; the same can be said of Thayerism, captured in the view that judges should uphold statutes unless they are unquestionably violative of the Constitution. Minimalism, which calls for narrow, incompletely theorized judgments, is another …
Surface Topography Contribution To Rfid’S Tags Efficiency Related To Resistivity, Mario A. Cruz
Surface Topography Contribution To Rfid’S Tags Efficiency Related To Resistivity, Mario A. Cruz
Masters Theses
The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the new technologies with more vision and acceptance oriented to the distribution and storage industries. The RFID is a technology that can be used to identify, track and store information about groups of products, individual items, or product components, using radio waves. The RFID device needs an antenna in order to receive a signal and transmit information. The stamping process applied today to produce the RFID antenna works with foil or copper. These etched metal RFID tags offer good benefits, but the production cost is too high to achieve a widespread implementation. …

Once Upon A Time In A Single-Parent Family: Father And Daughter Relationships In Disney's The Little Mermaid And Beauty And The Beast, Ashli A. Sharp
Theses and Dissertations
Fairy tales are adapted to fit the needs of each generation, reflecting the unique challenges of that society. In the 1980s and 1990s of the United States, issues of what constituted a family circulated as divorce increased and fatherhood was debated. At this time, Disney released two animated films featuring a father and daughter: The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Both films are adaptations of fairy tales, and they incorporate changes that specifically reflect concerns of the United States in the late-twentieth century. In the original narrative of "The Little Mermaid" the heroine is primarily raised by her …
Hymenoptera Diversity And Abundance In Fragmented And Continuous Forest In San Luis, Costa Rica, December 2006, Katie Macdiarmid
Hymenoptera Diversity And Abundance In Fragmented And Continuous Forest In San Luis, Costa Rica, December 2006, Katie Macdiarmid
Monteverde Institute: Tropical Ecology and Conservation
Fragmentation of forest habitats can have a negative impact on the diversity of many species. When fragmentation impacts pollination, it can result in major changes to the composition of forest plant communities as well as a reduction in fruit production for nearby agriculture. I studied Hymenoptera diversity in a four hectare fragment and a continuous forest using Euglossine traps as well as a mixture of honey and water to attract Hymenoptera species. Hymenoptera diversity did not differ significantly between the two habitats but abundance of Hymenoptera, Euglossine, and Apidae were all significantly greater in the continuous forest site. This indicates …
Patch Fidelity Behavior In Coexisting Damselflies: Hetaerina Cruentata (Odonata: Calopterygidae) And Argia Extranea (Odonata: Coenagrionidae), December 2006, Anna C. Peterson
Patch Fidelity Behavior In Coexisting Damselflies: Hetaerina Cruentata (Odonata: Calopterygidae) And Argia Extranea (Odonata: Coenagrionidae), December 2006, Anna C. Peterson
Monteverde Institute: Tropical Ecology and Conservation
Patch fidelity in coexisting territorial damselfly species, Hetaerina cruentata and Argia extranea was studied to determine if these species displayed differing territorial behavior, which may be one mechanism for niche differentiation of these species. Data such as light amount and proximity to water of the patch sites were gathered to provide information about territorial preferences of these two species. No significant relationships between patch fidelity and patch characteristics were found. A significant difference was seen between the patch fidelity of the two species, implicating territory as a possible niche differentiating mechanism. Possible explanations for the variation in patch fidelity behavior …
Determination Of The Optimal Pollinator Of Stachytarpheta Jamaicensis (Verbenaceae) Based On Nectar Production Throughout The Day, December 2006, Stephanie Siemek
Determination Of The Optimal Pollinator Of Stachytarpheta Jamaicensis (Verbenaceae) Based On Nectar Production Throughout The Day, December 2006, Stephanie Siemek
Monteverde Institute: Tropical Ecology and Conservation
Stachytarpheta jamaicensis has been found to have various visitors but its actual pollinator is unknown. I Collected nectar from 22 individual plants during various times of the day and I determined that S. jamaicensis produces most nectar during 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. Observation of the visitors were recorded for each hour and ten flowers were collected for each potential pollinator after they were observed obtaining nectar from the flowers. Nectar production was found to be significantly abundant early morning and late afternoon, this suggests that S. jamaicensis produces nectar for hummingbirds and moths since this is when they are …

United States Food Law Update, Michael Tingey Roberts, Margie Alsbrook
Journal of Food Law & Policy
This update summarizes some of the significant changes and developments in food law over the first half of 2006. Not every change in food law is included; instead, this update provides a starting point for scholars, practitioners, food industry members, and policymakers determined to understand the shaping of food law in modern society. Tracing the development of food law through these updates, which appear in each issue of the Journal of Food Law & Policy, also provides historical context for the development of significant food law issues over time. New developments in state law, while certainly important and deserving in …
Animal Identification And Traceability Under The Us National Animal Identification System, Margaret Rosso Grossman
Animal Identification And Traceability Under The Us National Animal Identification System, Margaret Rosso Grossman
Journal of Food Law & Policy
The identification of animals has a long history in the United States. Since the late nineteenth century, livestock producers have used brands to mark their animals. Ear tags and other marks now identify individual animals or animals from a specific producer, but not all livestock are identified to facilitate traceability.

Bovine Immune Response To Shiga-Toxigenic Escherichia Coli O157:H7, Mark A. Hoffman, Christian Menge, Thomas A. Casey, William Laegreid, Brad T. Bosworth, Evelyn A. Dean-Nystrom
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Although cattle develop humoral immune responses to Shiga-toxigenic (Stx+) Escherichia coli O157:H7, infections often result in long-term shedding of these human pathogenic bacteria. The objective of this study was to compare humoral and cellular immune responses to Stx+ and Stx- E. coli O157:H7. Three groups of calves were inoculated intrarumenally, twice in a 3-week interval, with different strains of E. coli: a Stx2- producing E. coli O157:H7 strain (Stx2+O157), a Shiga toxin-negative E. coli O157:H7 strain (Stx-O157), or a nonpathogenic E. coli strain (control). Fecal shedding of Stx2+O157 was …
The Effect Of Modular Tapered Fluted Stems On Proximal Stress Shielding In The Human Femur., Justin Steve Conway
The Effect Of Modular Tapered Fluted Stems On Proximal Stress Shielding In The Human Femur., Justin Steve Conway
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Modular hip implants are currently being used in total hip arthroplasty revision procedures because it is common to have little or no bone left in the proximal region of the femur and it is difficult to accurately size implants based off of radiographs or other medical imaging techniques. The effect of modular systems using tapered fluted stems on proximal stress shielding in the human femur is the focus of this study. Seven modular implants were press-fit into seven femurs, where there was little or no contact between the modular body and the test femur. Finally, hydroxyapatite bone cement was added …

Raccoon Predation As A Potential Limiting Factor In The Success Of The Green Iguana In Southern Florida, Henry T. Smith, Walter E. Meshaka Jr., Richard M. Engeman, Steven M. Crossett, Mark E. Foley, Gary Bush
United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications
The Green Iguana, Iguana iguana, is a well established, large-bodied, exotic species in Florida (Meshaka et al. 2004a. The Exotic Amphibians and Reptiles of Florida, Krieger Publishing Company, Malabar, Florida. 155 pp.; Meshaka et al. 2004b. Iguana 11:154-161). Limiting factors of populations and causes of Green Iguana mortality in Florida are poorly understood and the only documented predators are the domestic dog (Canus familiaris) (Meshaka et al. 2004a), Yellow-crowned Night-heron (Nyctanassa violacea) (Engeman et al. 2005. Herpetol. Rev. 36:320), Florida Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia floridana) (McKie et al. 2005. Florida Field Nat. 33:125-127), …

Media, Communication, And The Relevance Of Caragiale's Work Today, Cristian Stamatoiu
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Cristian Stamatoiu discusses in his paper "Media, Communication, and the Relevance of Caragiale's Work Today" media structures in the corpus of Romanian writer and thinker Ion Luca Caragiale (1852-1912). Stamatoiu argues that in addition to the artistic sophistication of his work, Caragiale anticipated the impact of new media revolution and its forms as an imitation of "pathological situations" of public discourse and communication per se. Caragiale is, therefore, a writer of surprisingly up-to-date relevance today because, despite his air of the belle époque, in his grotesque farces and in his short stories we discover mental structures found in and characteristic …

31 | ‘En Esur (‘Ein Asawir) I: Excavatios At A Protohistoric Site In The Coastal Plain Of Israel, Eli Yannai
IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
‘En Esur is a large, multi-level protohistoric site with a sequence of settlements from the Neolithic, Early Chalcolithic, Late Chalcolithic periods and Early Bronze Age I. It grew up in an area of copious springs and rich alluvial fields in the northern Sharon Plain. A large-scale salvage excavation in 1993, and further excavations in 1999 and 2004, revealed exceptional architectural and material-cultural finds, including rich pottery, flint and groundstone assemblages.
Point Source Of Pollutants In The Houston Ship Channel, Adetoun Aboaba
Point Source Of Pollutants In The Houston Ship Channel, Adetoun Aboaba
Theses (Pre-2016)
Water, the most abundant compound, can become easily polluted owing to its high polarity. Water pollution can be classified into two main categories namely point source of pollution in which the source of pollutants can be identified and non-source of pollution in which the source of pollutants cannot be traced or identified to a specific location. This study is focused on point source of pollution. A typical example is the Houston Ship Channel, which has being subjected to considerable amounts of chemical pollutants due to high levels of industrial and transportation activities. Scientists today have made the study of this …

Dumbo's Feather: An Examination And Critque Of The Supreme Court's Use, Misuse, And Abuse Of Tradition In Protecting Fundamental Rights, Ronald J. Krotoszynski Jr.
William & Mary Law Review
The Justices of the Supreme Court have a great deal in common with the gifted pachyderm from the Walt Disney animated classic feature Dumbo. Like Dumbo's "magic" feather that purportedly enabled him to exercise his natural ability to fly, the tradition limitation on the Court's jurisprudence on unenumerated fundamental constitutional rights provides a more-apparent-than real constraint on the Court's almost unlimited ability to nullify legislative and executive action. In all too many substantive due process cases, reason seems to follow a predetermined result, rather than the result in the case following from the applicable governing principles. In this Article, Professor …
Seasonal Dietary Composition Of The Eastern Coyote (Canis Latrans) On The Berry College Campus In Northwestern Georgia, Kathleen Melissa Owens
Seasonal Dietary Composition Of The Eastern Coyote (Canis Latrans) On The Berry College Campus In Northwestern Georgia, Kathleen Melissa Owens
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Coyotes (Canis latrans) have progressively colonized eastern North America following wolf extirpation and the clearing of forested landscapes. The coyote has expanded its geographic range into Georgia during the past 50 years, and its impact as the top predator is potentially influencing community dynamics via competition and/or predation. Few studies have examined coyote food habits in the southeastern United States. Our objective was to determine prey items consumed by free-ranging coyotes living on Berry College lands in northwestern Georgia. One hundred and twenty-seven coyote scats were collected from May 2005 through August 2006 along seven major service roads that transected …

Deportation And Massacres In The Cipher Telegrams Of The Interior Ministry In The Prime Ministerial Archive (Başbakanlık Arşivi), Taner Akc¸Am
Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal
Despite attempts at cleansing the Ottoman archives, after the armistice of 1918, of material incriminating the Young Turk government in planning to annihilate the Armenians, the prime ministerial archive (Bas bakanl|k Ars ivi, or BOA) in Istanbul still contains invaluable documentation on the Armenian Genocide. Contrary to the common belief, which suggests that the Ottoman documents in the BOA were created solely in order to obscure the actions of the Ottoman government, the author argues that this archive contains information that runs completely counter to the official Turkish denial thesis and actually elucidates both the intent of Ottoman authorities and …

The Restless World Of Leonardo Alishan (March 1951–January 2005): A Burnt Offering On The Altar Of The Armenian Genocide, Rubina Peroomian
Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal
In his short career as a writer, poet, and literary critic, Leonardo Alishan left a rich literary legacy, a legacy that is not widely known. This article attempts to shed light on an important segment of his literary output: his creations in the genre of genocide literature. Alishan was a third-generation survivor of the Armenian Genocide, the inheritor of his grandmother’s devastating memories, living in the grip of the nightmare of the Catastrophe, never able to transcend it. The everpresent pain that dragged his grandmother from one mental hospital to another reverberated in his literary work, painting a microcosm of …
