The Evolution Of Persian Thought Regarding Art And Figural Representation In Secular And Religious Life After The Coming Of Islam , Mashal Saif Oct 2006

The Evolution Of Persian Thought Regarding Art And Figural Representation In Secular And Religious Life After The Coming Of Islam , Mashal Saif

Macalester Islam Journal

This paper argues that, although Islam never succeeded in completely wiping out the use of figural representation in Persian arts, it did manage to have a significant effect on Persian artistic forms and their appreciation. The Islamic prohibition on figural representation resulted in a shift from artistic emphasis being placed almost solely on figural representation (as was the case in pre-Islamic Persia) to a greater emphasis being placed on abstract, geometrical vegetal and floral art.

The Heart Of The Farm, Meg Klosterman Kester, Maggie Miller Oct 2006

The Heart Of The Farm, Meg Klosterman Kester, Maggie Miller

Cornhusker Economics

The 22nd Annual Women in Agriculture Conference was held September 14-15, 2006 in Kearney, Nebraska. This year’s conference theme was “The Heart of the Farm,” chosen because of the vital role women play in their operations, both as a producer and a relationship builder. There were nearly 400 women in attendance from 57 Nebraska counties, four states and Australia. Over 50 percent of conference attendees were sponsored by local lenders and agribusinesses.

The Sertoli Cell-Spermatid Junctional Complex: A Potential Avenue For Male Contraception, Katja Margrit Wolski Oct 2006

The Sertoli Cell-Spermatid Junctional Complex: A Potential Avenue For Male Contraception, Katja Margrit Wolski

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The Sertoli cell ectoplasmic specialization is a specialized domain of the calcium-dependent Sertoli-spermatid adherens junction. Structurally abnormal or absent Sertoli ectoplasmic specializations are associated with spermatid sloughing and subsequent oligospermia in conditions associated with reduced fertility potential, although the junctional strength between these cells is not known. Adjudin is a potential male contraceptive agent thought to interrupt testicular binding dynamics of adherens junctions, resulting in controlled spermatid sloughing.

It was hypothesized that the mechanism of action of Adjudin, pertinent to its putative contraceptive effect, is the disruption of the Sertoli cell-spermatid junction. This was tested in vitro using primary isolates …

Laplante V. Winkowitsch, 05-Ap-08 (Blkft. Tr. Ct. App., Oct. 10, 2006), Blackfeet Appellate Court

Court Decisions

In the Blackfeet Tribal Court of Appeals, the Court considering a dispute over the pasturing of cattle longer than the original contract terms. While the original two-month contract was in writing, both parties agree that a verbal contract, with terms, covered the next two months. Cattle was lost and Defendant countersued for the loss of cattle. On Appeal, the Court determined that the lower court judge should have recused himself because he briefly represented the plaintiff in this matter before becoming judge. The Findings of fact were not supported by substantial credible evidence, and the pro se plaintiff, who did …

Spatial Confidentiality And Gis: Re-Engineering Mortality Locations From Published Maps About Hurricane Katrina, Andrew J. Curtis, Jacqueline W. Mills, Michael Leitner Oct 2006

Spatial Confidentiality And Gis: Re-Engineering Mortality Locations From Published Maps About Hurricane Katrina, Andrew J. Curtis, Jacqueline W. Mills, Michael Leitner

Faculty Publications

Background: Geographic Information System (GIS) can provide valuable insight into patterns of human activity. Online spatial display applications, such as Google Earth, can democratise this information by disseminating it to the general public. Although this is a generally positive advance for society, there is a legitimate concern involving the disclosure of confidential information through spatial display. Although guidelines exist for aggregated data, little has been written concerning the display of point level information. The concern is that a map containing points representing cases of cancer or an infectious disease, could be re-engineered back to identify an actual residence. This is …
