The Institutional Repository At The University Of Nebraska–Lincoln: Its First Year Of Operations, Paul Royster
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Faculty Publications
The institutional repository (hereafter IR) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (hereafter UNL) began operations July 1, 2005. At the close of our first year we had mounted 2,397 articles, which had been downloaded 58,743 times; the dissertations collection included 10,117 theses, which had been downloaded 34,862 times. We currently average around 2,000 hits and 700 downloads per day. Usage increases as the semester progresses, and falls during the Christmas break and during the summer. In addition to the various wildlife damage conference proceedings, we had mounted extensive backfiles of the Journal of Parasitology, and the proceedings of the People of …

Nebraskans who experience damage and nuisance problems with wildlife can get assistance from several public and private organizations. This NebFact describes the most direct route to the solution of your problem. A reference guide (Table I) lists who to contact for information, materials, permits, and hands-on assistance. Wildlife play an important role in our environment. In addition, we gain many recreational, economic, and aesthetic benefits from them. Unfortunately, the activities of wildlife occasionally conflict with human interests in personal property, agricultural production, and health and safety. The most common wildlife damage and nuisance problems in Nebraska are caused by bats, …

Ank is a multipass transmembrane protein that regulates the cellular transport of inorganic pyrophosphate. In the progressive ankylosis (ank) mouse, a premature termination mutation at glutamic acid 440 results in a phenotype characterized by inappropriate deposition of basic calcium phosphate crystals in skeletal tissues. Mutations in the amino terminus of ANKH, the human homolog of Ank, result in familial calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease. It has been hypothesized that these mutations result in a gain-of-function with respect to the elaboration of extracellular inorganic pyrophosphate. To explore this issue in a mineralization-competent system, we stably transduced ATDC5 cells with wild-type Ank …

Trade Barriers In Service/Investment Markets Erected By Korea And Japan, Eun Sup Lee
Trade Barriers In Service/Investment Markets Erected By Korea And Japan, Eun Sup Lee
ExpressO
This study analysis shows that the anti-competitive practices in the service market of the two countries have almost identical characteristics even though there are differences in the degree of the criticism against those barriers from their trading partner countries. These practices reflect the policy objectives of both government to emphasize consumer protection or stability of financial institutes rather than the institutes’ competitiveness or operative of efficiency, somewhat different from developed western countries. Such policy objectives reflect the overall social and cultural environments of the two countries which stress stability rather than productivity or efficiency of any institute. Considering the over-all …

The Anchor, Volume 120.07: October 25, 2006, Hope College
The Anchor: 2006
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Mining The Arabidopsis Thaliana Genome For Highly-Divergent Seven Transmembrane Receptors, Etsuko N. Moriyama, Pooja K. Strope, Stephen O. Opiyo, Zhongying Chen, Alan M. Jones
School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications
To identify divergent seven-transmembrane receptor (7TMR) candidates from the Arabidopsis thaliana genome, multiple protein classification methods were combined, including both alignmentbased and alignment-free classifiers. This resolved problems in optimally training individual classifiers using limited and divergent samples, and increased stringency for candidate proteins. We identified 394 proteins as 7TMR candidates and highlighted 54 with corresponding expression patterns for further investigation.
