The Identity Of Catfishes Identified As Mystus Cavasius (Hamilton, 1822) (Teleostei: Bagridae), With A Description Of A New Species From Myanmar, Prosanta Chakrabarty, Heok Hee Ng

The identity of South Asian riverine bagrid catfishes usually referred to as Mystus cavasius (Hamilton, 1822) is reviewed. Three species comprise what is currently understood as M. cavasius: M. cavasius s. str. from northern India, M. seengtee from southern India and a new species, M. falcarius, from the Salween and Irrawaddy river drainages in Myanmar and the shorter river drainages in southern Myanmar. Mystus seengtee is resurrected from synonymy with M. cavasius and both species are redescribed. The three species differ from other congeners with a long-based adipose fin in having a combination of a black spot in front of …

Demographics And Motivation Of Adult Group Piano Students, Brenda Wristen

Adults are continuing to pursue a greater quantity and variety of educational opportunities. As evidenced by this study, adults typically have compelling goals from the outset of piano study and maintain clear expectations regarding in¬struction. They found the group environment helpful, underscoring findings from aforementioned studies regarding the success of choir, band, and other group musical activities for adults. More research concerning the social motivation of group music participation is warranted. Further investigation into what factors motivate adults to seek out and continue to pursue music study would help teachers better address the needs and concerns of adult learners. Likewise, …

Executive Compensation, Corporate Governance, And The Partner-Manager, Richard A. Booth Marbury Research Professor Of Law

In the debate over executive compensation, the assumption seems to be that the CEO of a publicly traded corporation is ultimately an employee of the corporation. According to the conventional view, the business belongs to the stockholders. Executive compensation is an expense like any other business expense that must be subtracted from income in reckoning stockholder return. The central problem has been that the CEO has too much power, and the board of directors has not acted as an effective monitor. Thus, the problem of executive compensation appears to be a thinly disguised problem of self-dealing. Professor Booth argues here …

Intrinsic Conformational Preferences Of Substituted Cyclohexanes And Tetrahydropyrans Evaluated At The Ccsd(T) Complete Basis Set Limit: Implications For The Anomeric Effect, Abby Jones Weldon, Trisha L. Vickrey, Gregory S. Tschumper
Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works
A series of MP2 and CCSD(T) computations have been carried out with correlation consistent basis sets as large as aug-cc-pV5Z to determine the intrinsic equatorial-axial conformational preference of CH 3-, F-, OCH 3-, and OH-substituted cyclohexane and tetrahydropyran rings. The high-accuracy relative electronic energies reported here shed new light on the intrinsic energetics of these cyclic prototypes for the anomeric effect. At the CCSD(T) complete basis set (CBS) limit, the energy of the equatorial conformation relative to the axial position (ΔE CCSD(T)CBC) is -0.75, -0.20, -0.21, and -0.56 kcal mol -1 in methyl-, fluoro-, methoxy-, and hydroxy cyclohexane, respectively, while …
