Victimization And Academic Achievement At School: The Role Of Psychosocial Mediators And Moderators, Christine Marie Wienke Totura
Victimization And Academic Achievement At School: The Role Of Psychosocial Mediators And Moderators, Christine Marie Wienke Totura
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The present study sought to examine the relationship between victimization by peers in middle school and academic outcomes. it was expected that an association between the experience of victimization and diminished academic performance would be mediated by poor psychological outcomes, as measured by moodiness, depression, anxiety, and anger. additionally, it was hypothesized that academic outcomes could be divided into two distinct constructs, motivation and achievement, with motivation and academic goal-orientation variables preceding the adequate attainment of school grades and standardized test scores. therefore, the present mediated model was tested using a structural equation modeling technique: victimization-psychological functioning-academic motivation-academic achievement. additionally, …

Book Review: Transitional Justice Comes Of Age: Enduring Lessons And Challenges, Chandra Lekha Sriram
Faculty Scholarship
This review article considers recent developments in transitional justice through an examination of two recent works on transitional justice, one dealing with "reparative" justice and the other seeking to offer an historical perspective on transitional justice generally. Through a consideration of the virtues and vices of each volume, the article also discusses some lessons learned and continuing challenges from a field of study and practice that is, at about a quarter-century, relatively young but maturing.

The Anchor: 2005
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

The reform movement in mathematics education has recognized affective factors as an important area where change is needed. This study examined the attitudes toward mathematics of preservice elementary teachers entering an introductory mathematics methods course. The methods course utilized constructivist instructional methods, such as the use of manipulatives, cooperative group work, problem solving, and calculators. Investigating Turnover Intention Among Emergency Communication Specialists, Yufan Liu
Investigating Turnover Intention Among Emergency Communication Specialists, Yufan Liu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study tested a model that uses job stressors, equity sensitivity, perceived organizational justice, and job satisfaction to explain turnover intention and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). An online survey was distributed to emergency communication specialists from 14 emergency communication centers in Florida. The supervisors in these emergency communication centers were asked to rate their employees on OCB. Responses to the survey and the OCB ratings were analyzed using structural equation modeling to evaluate the fit of a theoretical model to those data. Results showed that the model fit the data reasonably well and nearly all the hypotheses were supported. Specifically, …

Proposed Federal Definition Of "Internet Job Applicant" Suggests Need For Revised Human Resource Policies, Carson Strege-Flora
Proposed Federal Definition Of "Internet Job Applicant" Suggests Need For Revised Human Resource Policies, Carson Strege-Flora
Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts
After several years of discussion, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, along with several other federal agencies, has proposed a new definition of “Internet job applicant” to help employers understand how to treat such applicants. The explosion over the past decade of Internet recruiting prompted the need for clarification of how employers must treat applicants for purposes of federal antidiscrimination law and recordkeeping requirements. The new guidelines suggest that employers engaged in Internet recruiting should review their hiring policies to ensure that their treatment of Internet job applicants complies with the proposed guidelines. This Article suggests that employers avoid violating federal …
