Adsorption Studies For Arsenic Removal Using Modified Chabazite, Ashutosh S. Vakharkar Nov 2005

Adsorption Studies For Arsenic Removal Using Modified Chabazite, Ashutosh S. Vakharkar

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Arsenic contamination in drinking water has been a cause of serious concerns across the United States as well as throughout the world. Over 70 million people in Eastern India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Northern China have been victims of arsenic poisoning. The USEPA has classified arsenic as a Class A carcinogen and recently reduced the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) in drinking water from 50ppb to 10ppb. The deadline for all the water utilities to meet this level is 23rd January 2006. To meet those drinking water standards, small water utilities need low cost and effective arsenic removal techniques.

Development Of Commercial Applications For Recycled Plastics Using Finite Element Analysis, Nanjunda Narasimhamurthy Nov 2005

Development Of Commercial Applications For Recycled Plastics Using Finite Element Analysis, Nanjunda Narasimhamurthy

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates the suitability of thermo-kinetically recycled plastics for use in commercial product applications using finite element analysis and statistics. Different recycled material blends were tested and evaluated for their use in commercial product applications. There are six different blends of thermo-kinetically recycled plastics used for testing and CATIA is used for finite element analysis. The different types of thermo-kinetically recycled plastics blends are: pop bottles made of PolyethyleneTeraphthalate (PET), milk jugs made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Vinyl seats made of Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) and small amount of Polypropylene (PP) and Urethane, electronic scrap made of engineering resins …

Memory And Pluralism On A Property Law Frontier, Gregory Alan Hicks Nov 2005

Memory And Pluralism On A Property Law Frontier, Gregory Alan Hicks

ExpressO

This article explores the limits of legal victory and the problem of legitimacy of legal outcomes. It chronicles the decades-long dispute between Hispano settlers on northern New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo land grant and the succession of entrepreneur owners of the grant in the last decades of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. The dispute occurred on a legal and cultural frontier defined by the transition from Mexican to U.S. dominion in the years following the end of the Mexican War and by the opening of the region to larger scale economic development at the …

Grid-Enabling A Vibroacoustic Analysis Application, Brian Bentow, Jon Dodge, Aaron Homer, Christopher D. Moore, Robert M. Keller, Matthew T. Presley, Robert Davis, Jorge Seidel, Craig Lee, Joseph Betser Nov 2005

Grid-Enabling A Vibroacoustic Analysis Application, Brian Bentow, Jon Dodge, Aaron Homer, Christopher D. Moore, Robert M. Keller, Matthew T. Presley, Robert Davis, Jorge Seidel, Craig Lee, Joseph Betser

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

This paper describes the process of grid-enabling a vibroacoustic analysis application using the Globus Toolkit 3.2.1. This is the first step in a project intended to grid-enable a suite of tools being developed as a service-oriented architecture for spacecraft telemetry analysis. Many of the applications in the suite are compute intensive and would benefit from significantly improved performance. In this paper we show the advantage of using Globus to grid-enable a single tool in a vibroacoustic analysis flow, with the result that using as few as eleven nodes, that tool’s runtime improved by a factor of eight. While communication overhead …

An Optical-Infrared Jet In 3c 133, David J.E. Floyd, Robert Laing, Marco Chiaberge, David Axon, Christopher P. O'Dea, Stefi A. Baum, Et Al. Nov 2005

An Optical-Infrared Jet In 3c 133, David J.E. Floyd, Robert Laing, Marco Chiaberge, David Axon, Christopher P. O'Dea, Stefi A. Baum, Et Al.

Articles

We report the discovery of a new optical-IR synchrotron jet in the radio galaxy 3C 133 from our HST/NICMOS snapshot survey. The jet and eastern hotspot are well resolved, and visible at both optical and IR wavelengths. The IR jet follows the morphology of the inner part of the radio jet, with three distinct knots identified with features in the radio. The radio-IR SED’s of the knots are examined, along with those of two more distant hotspots at the eastern extreme of the radio feature. The detected emission appears to be synchrotron, with peaks in the NIR for all except …

The Relationship Between Plasticity Ratio And Hydraulic Conductivity For Bentonite Clay During Exposure To Synthetic Landfill Leachate, Whitney M. Allen Nov 2005

The Relationship Between Plasticity Ratio And Hydraulic Conductivity For Bentonite Clay During Exposure To Synthetic Landfill Leachate, Whitney M. Allen

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In landfill design, the containment of solid and liquid contaminant is essential. Leachate is produced from the biodegradation of the waste with the migration of liquid including rain-water through the heap. This liquid can become a health hazard if it leaches into the groundwater. Liners are placed beneath leachate collection systems to prevent leachate from seeping into the soil underneath the landfill.

Compacted clay liners, usually containing bentonite clay, are widely used. Bentonite can be characterized by its low hydraulic conductivity and high swell potential. With a low hydraulic conductivity, the liner can serve as a barrier. The high swell …

Developing A Spectral And Colorimetric Database Of Artist Paint Materials, Yoshio Okumura Nov 2005

Developing A Spectral And Colorimetric Database Of Artist Paint Materials, Yoshio Okumura

Theses

As the project of the author's Master's thesis, the development of a spectral and colorimetric database of artist paint materials for acrylic paints was started. The goal of this research project was to: - provide the academic resource of colorant spectral characteristics - give scientifc explanations on various paint-particular phenomena (paint mixing, gloss effects and color gamut expansion by varnishing) These tasks were planned to satisfy possible interests on paint research from not only conservators in museums but also color educators in schools and color reproduction engineers in imaging companies.

Implementation Of Operational Framework In The Nlp (Based On Mof And Itil Standards), James Kapp Nov 2005

Implementation Of Operational Framework In The Nlp (Based On Mof And Itil Standards), James Kapp

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

An operational framework, as proposed by the Microsoft Operational Framework (MOF) and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) provides a process model for controlling and managing Information Technology (IT) operations. With a strict focus on IT operations, it provides the processes and terminology to coordinate and integrate the functional elements of an IT department. The Systems Engineering and Applications Development (SEAD) practicum is composed of four main groups; Data Access, Network, Integrated Services and Development. This professional project will propose the beginning framework for overall operation and integration of the SEAD Practicum with an emphasis on service support and documentation. …
