Problem

Churches in America are on average 60-70 percent female. Attracting and integrating African American males into church life is a grave challenge. This study focuses on African American males in Southeast Atlanta and seeks to design a model for addressing their sociological and spiritual needs in anticipation of their accession into church membership.

Method

The setting for this study is the Atlanta Boulevard Seventh-day Adventist Church in Southeast Atlanta. The method employed in this project is an exploratory research approach that is designed to identify the social, economic, and other needs of African American males. In order to ascertain …

Problem. Research among Evangelicals and Seventh-day Adventists shows that approximately 12 percent of pastors commit adultery while in the ministry. What happens to an Adventist pastor who commits adultery? The North American Division policies are straightforward. An adulterous pastor should lose his credentials and ordination, be disfellowshipped, and never be rehired by any church entity. However, administrative practices are not consistent with church guidelines. Often a fallen pastor is moved to another district without a lapse in the service record. The history of the prerogative of the sovereign, the lex prerogativa, in Anglo American jurisprudence is long and complicated. It has exercised the minds of jurists and political philosophers for many centuries, and there has not been universal agreement as to its nature and scope. The purpose of this essay, as prompted by the two quotations just given, is to describe the prerogative law and trace its development from medieval England to modem Virginia.

In this Article, I will address environmental issues in the context of our rapidly evolving understanding of "restructuring." The market for electricity is fast becoming a series of regional marketplaces for wholesale transactions, operating on bid-based systems that move power at the lowest cost. There are plenty of states where power is still delivered as it has been for decades: by "bundled" service provided by vertically integrated utilities. However, the trend is toward regionalization, where independent entities control the transmission grid and play a major role in determining how power is delivered. This Article questions how well the efficient market theory, as applied by event studies, works in cases originating during the Internet, high-tech, and telecommunications bubble of 1998 to 2001. In doing so, the Article discusses technical and theoretical challenges to the efficient market theory. Principally, however, this Article argues that the use of the efficient market theory-and relatedly the event study methodology-is inappropriate in bubble cases for normative reasons. The normative connection between the efficient market theory-applied through event studies-and the lOb-5 elements-reliance, materiality, loss causation, and damages-presupposes that the market acts rationally. The thesis of this article is that a more workable approach to characterizing fees for optional products and services is possible by focusing on charges that represent payment for discrete products or services of value to the consumer, freely chosen by consumers as contract options which do not affect the amount of credit available to the consumer, the consumer's access to it, or the allocation of payment responsibility and credit risk in the transaction or plan. Interracial marriage remains one of the most emotionally charged issues in the troubled racial history of the United States. Love in Black and White: The Triumph of Love over Prejudice and Taboo is Mark and Gail Mathabane's relatively popular memoir of their interracial marriage. Using this text as a means of access to the discourses surrounding interracial marriage in the post-Civil Rights era, this study applies the key Foucauldian concepts of discourse, power, subjectivity, and critique to an interpretation of this text in relation to its sociohistorical context. Objective: The standard paradigm of research into dementia of the Alzheimer's type (DAT) has yielded little in the way of effective patient treatment. Recent neuroscientific advances into the understanding of implicit memory have opened up new possibilities of patient care. The ontology developed within the existentialphenomenological (EP) tradition provided the best foundation for further research in this direction, toward restoring moderately impaired DAT patients to Erikson's last normative stage of development, gerotranscendence. Combustion of coal occurs worldwide to produce energy for numerous residential and industrial processes. During coal combustion, byproducts including fly ash, bottom ash and slag are formed (Lafarge, 2004). By standard regulations, power plants in the United States and many other countries must effectively capture and dispose of these byproducts. Over 118 million tons of combustion byproducts are produced and captured each year in the United States alone. Disposal of this extraordinary amount of waste is difficult and costly. Finding ways to turn this waste into a resource has been necessary, and at times, profitable.

While acute organophosphorous compound poisoning due to inhibition of acetylcholinesterase is a well-established clinical entity, the existence of chronic poisoning due to exposure to low levels of organophosphorous compounds (below the threshold required for cholinergic clinical symptoms) is a hotly debated issue. In this study, we have evaluated the effects of noncholinergic doses of malathion (0.01-20 µM) on apoptosis of murine L929 fibroblasts. Employing flow cytometric and caspase activation analyses, we demonstrate that malathion induces apoptosis in L929 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. The mechanism by which retroviruses preferentially encapsidate their unspliced genomic RNA among millions of both spliced viral and cellular mRNAs in the cytoplasm represents a function of great specificity. This selection process requires that the genomic RNA contain packaging determinants unique to its own RNA that can interact specifically with the packaging proteins of the viral particles, the Gag polyproteins. Knowing the exact sequences involved in packaging should provide basic insights into the mechanism of preferentially encapsidating the full length genomic RNA.

Stable crack growth behavior emanating from a sharp notch is investigated. Material chosen for tests was EN 34 NiCrMo6 low alloy steel (akin to 4340/4330). Tests were carried out on CT specimens for various angles and ratios to obtain load vs, load-line displacement, Ρ-Δ_LL, curves. Experimental results were analyzed. A normalization approach of Ρ-Δ_{LL curves has been attempted and all experimental curves were represented as a single characteristic curve.
