Leading Towards A Level Playing Field, Repaying Ecological Debt, Or Making Environmental Space: Three Stories About International Environmental Cooperation, Karin Mickelson

This article considers a number of different ways of conceptualizing the relationship between South and North in the environmental context, focusing on international responses to climate change and, particular, the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It explores three stories about international cooperation. One derives from the concept of "ecological debt," the second comes from the concept of "environmental space," and the third, which might be said to underlie the U.S. approach to the Kyoto Protocol at the present time, is labelled "leading towards a level playing field." This edition of the Wooster Magazine was published in the winter of 2005. An article from page ten to fifteen highlights alum Dale Swift '80 and his work as a pediatric neurosurgeon. Pam Tegtmeier, the wellness coordinator of the college, discusses getting fit from page sixteen to nineteen. An 1877 alum, Dr. George Emery Goodfellow, is highlighted on page twenty/twenty-one for his surgeon career. Jimmy Wilkinson Meyer talks on alternative medicine from page twenty-two to twenty-five. Pervasiveness Of Phytoliths In Prehistoric Southwestern Diet And Implications For Regional And Temporal Trends For Dental Microwear, Karl J. Reinhard, Dennis R. Danielson

Our previous analysis of phytolith content of coprolites showed that calcium oxalate phytoliths from desert food plants caused dental microwear among prehistoric Texas hunter-gatherers. We demonstrated that phytoliths from desert succulents were ubiquitous and abundant in hunter-gatherer coprolites. We found that calcium oxalate phytoliths were harder than human dental enamel. We concluded that phytoliths from desert succulent plants caused dental microwear and hypothesized that such dental microwear would be common in other desert hunter-gatherer and horticultural peoples. Interventions For Postpartum Depression, Registered Nurses' Association Of Ontario

General Submissions: Community and Population-based Materials

The focus of this guideline is on the confirmation, prevention, and treatment of mothers with depressive symptoms in the first postpartum year. This guideline will benefit community, family practice, and hospital-based nurses, as well as other health professionals caring for postpartum women. Specific Practice Recommendations relate to the confirmation of mothers with depressive symptoms and include implementation of effective preventive and non-pharmacological treatment interventions. Education Recommendations are suggested to support clinical practice in the care of mothers experiencing depressive symptoms in the postpartum period. Finally, Organization and Policy Recommendations have been developed to address the importance of a supportive practice …

Colorectal cancer CRC is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Advances in molecular techniques have provided deep insight into the molecular pathogenesis, biologic and genetic changes occurring in colon cancer patients. Current theories of malignant transformation postulate that development of colon cancer is related to 2 main pathways; the loss of heterozygosity pathway, which is usually due to a defect in the adenomatous polyposis coli APC gene and microsatellite instability, which is usually due to a defect in mismatch repair MMR genes. Anticipatory systems have been shown to be useful in discrete, symbolic systems. However, non­symbolic anticipatory systems are less well understood. In this paper, we explore the use of anticipation within the framework of connectionist networks to bootstrap from an innate behavior; to drive a reinforcement signal; and to provide feedback on the learnability of a task.
