Murine Monoclonal Anti-Idiotype Antibody 11d10 And Methods Of Use Thereof, Malaya Chatterjee, Kenneth A. Foon, Sunil K. Chatterjee

Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics Faculty Patents

The present invention provides a monoclonal anti-idiotype antibody 11D10 that elicits an immune response against a specific epitope of a high molecular weight mucin of human milk fat globule (HMFG) and a hybridoma that produces 11D10. The hybridoma that produces 11D10 was selected by specific procedures. 11D10 induces an immunological response to HMFG in nice, rabbits, monkeys and patients with advanced HMFG-associated tumors. This invention provides compositions derived from polynucleotide sequences encoding the variable light and/or variable heavy regions of monoclonal anti-idiotype antibody 11D10, as well as polypeptides encoded thereby. The invention also provides compositions which can be used in …

University of Nebraska State Museum: Mammalogy Papers

The mammalogy program at Texas Tech University officially was established in 1962, when Robert L. Packard joined the faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences. As the institution's first mammalogist, Packard took the initiative to develop a strong program of mammalian research and education. Influenced by the successful program built by his mentor, E. Raymond Hall, at the University of Kansas, Packard modeled similar goals for Texas Tech University. Those goals included a strong emphasis on both undergraduate and graduate education and research, with several mammalogy faculty members, and the establishment and growth of a large and active mammal collection.

Polymer-Mediated Synthesis Of Highly Dispersed Pt Nanoparticles On Carbon Black, Min Chen, Yangchuan Xing Sep 2005

Polymer-Mediated Synthesis Of Highly Dispersed Pt Nanoparticles On Carbon Black, Min Chen, Yangchuan Xing

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A new method was developed to prepare highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles on carbon black to use as proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell catalysts. This method involves using a polymer, poly-(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), to prevent particle aggregation and thereby reduce nanoparticle sizes to achieve high dispersion. It was found that Pt nanoparticles mediated by PVP are smaller than those obtained without PVP and have a narrower size distribution. Well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles with metal loadings from 5 to 35 wt % were obtained on carbon black (Vulcan XC-72R). It was found that well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles on carbon black could be synthesized at …

Sovereignty, Self-Determination, And Environment-Based Cultures: The Emerging Voice Of Indigenous Peoples In International Law, Peter Manus Sep 2005

Sovereignty, Self-Determination, And Environment-Based Cultures: The Emerging Voice Of Indigenous Peoples In International Law, Peter Manus

ExpressO

This article presents a survey of both the rhetoric and applications of international law addressing indigenous peoples' environmental rights. Part I assesses three terms that are widely used in international instruments - sovereignty, human rights, and self-determination - for their applicability to the environment-related interests of indigenous peoples. Part II presents a sixty year litany of international instruments as a means of tracing the evolution of global awareness of the uniquely vulnerable position that indigenous people occupy in the world community in connection with their environmental interests. Part III offers a comparative analysis of the cases Kitok v. Sweden and …

Enhancement Of Protein Secretion In Pichia Pastoris By Overexpression Of Protein Disulfide Isomerase, Mehmet İnan, Dinesh Aryasomayajula, Jayanta Sinha, Michael M. Meagher Sep 2005

Enhancement Of Protein Secretion In Pichia Pastoris By Overexpression Of Protein Disulfide Isomerase, Mehmet İnan, Dinesh Aryasomayajula, Jayanta Sinha, Michael M. Meagher

Papers in Biochemical Engineering

A potential vaccine candidate, Necator americanus secretory protein (Na-ASP1), against hookworm infections, has been expressed in Pichia pastoris. Na- ASP1, a 45 kDa protein containing 20 cysteines, was directed outside the cell by fusing the protein to the preprosequence of the α-mating factor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Most of the protein produced by single copy clones was secreted outside the cell. However, increasing gene copy number of Na-ASP1 protein in P. pastoris saturated secretory capacity and therefore, decreased the amount of secreted protein in clones harboring multiple copies of Na-ASP1 gene. Overexpression of the …

Selective Role For Superoxide In Insp3 Receptor-Mediated Mitochondrial Dysfunction And Endothelial Apoptosis., Muniswamy Madesh, Brian J Hawkins, Tatyana Milovanova, Cunnigaiper D Bhanumathy, Suresh K Joseph, Satish P Ramachandrarao, Kumar Sharma, Tomohiro Kurosaki, Aron B Fisher

Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology Faculty Papers

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a divergent role in both cell survival and cell death during ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and associated inflammation. In this study, ROS generation by activated macrophages evoked an intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) transient in endothelial cells that was ablated by a combination of superoxide dismutase and an anion channel blocker. [Ca2+]i store depletion, but not extracellular Ca2+ chelation, prevented [Ca2+]i elevation in response to O2*- that was inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (InsP3) dependent, and cells lacking the three InsP3 receptor (InsP3R) isoforms failed to display the [Ca2+]i transient. Importantly, the O2*--triggered Ca2+ mobilization preceded a loss in mitochondrial membrane …

On the Green is an internal publication of Gallaudet College, which later became Gallaudet University. It notified employees of updates around the campus and in the broader community, including new construction and the establishment of new academic programs. Running until 2010, it was supplanted by various forms of online mass communications across multiple audiences.

A Pseudolikelihood Approach For Simultaneous Analysis Of Array Comparative Genomic Hybridizations (Acgh), David A. Engler, Gayatry Mohapatra, David N. Louis, Rebecca Betensky

Harvard University Biostatistics Working Paper Series

DNA sequence copy number has been shown to be associated with cancer development and progression. Array-based Comparative Genomic Hybridization (aCGH) is a recent development that seeks to identify the copy number ratio at large numbers of markers across the genome. Due to experimental and biological variations across chromosomes and across hybridizations, current methods are limited to analyses of single chromosomes. We propose a more powerful approach that borrows strength across chromosomes and across hybridizations. We assume a Gaussian mixture model, with a hidden Markov dependence structure, and with random effects to allow for intertumoral variation, as well as intratumoral clonal …
