The Misery Of Mitra: Considering Criminal Punishment For Computer Crimes, James T. Tsai Nov 2005

The Misery Of Mitra: Considering Criminal Punishment For Computer Crimes, James T. Tsai

ExpressO

This paper analyzes the policies and philosophy of punishment for computer crimes under the post-Sept. 11th regime. I argue that the judicial discourse represented in Mitra represents a willingness to use the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act to go after defendants that cause trouble with critical infrastructures, the so-called “domestic terrorist.” This is manifested in the levels of punishments for such offenses and calls into question whether the traditional theories of punishment are applicable. I argue that as a policy, it makes good sense but the hazy definitions of terrorism may present problems for its success, and instead an approach …

Ethics In Organizations And Measuring The Effectiveness Of Ethics Programs, Deidre K. Rodriguez Nov 2005

Ethics In Organizations And Measuring The Effectiveness Of Ethics Programs, Deidre K. Rodriguez

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

ABC Corporation (ABC) like many corporations, implemented ethics as a major core value and initiative after the highly publicized corporate scandals of the 1990s. ABC currently does not have a consistent way of measuring the effectiveness of the ethics portion of their Ethics and Compliance program. This paper examines the need for a measurement plan and the benefits related to consistently using the plan to measure the effectiveness of the ethics program. Action research is the proposed research method for this project. The Method section of this proposal discusses several data collection techniques including interviews, secondary data source analysis and …

Basel And The Wittenberg Concord, Amy Nelson Burnett Nov 2005

Basel And The Wittenberg Concord, Amy Nelson Burnett

Department of History: Faculty Publications

Walther Kohler ended his classic account of the eucharistic controversy, Zwingli und Luther, with a description of the synod of Swiss theologians that met in Zurich in April of 1538. Held almost two years after the signing of the Wittenberg Concord, the synod was Martin Bucer's last opportunity to persuade the Swiss to continue negotiations for eucharistic concord with Luther. Bucer had reason to hope for positive results from the synod, for at least some of the Swiss were open to further discussion. The delegates from Basel, Bern, St. Gall, and Mulhouse supported a favorable response to a recent …

Posterior Longitudinal Ligament Status In Cervical Spine Bilateral Facet Dislocations, John A. Carrino, Geoffrey L. Manton, William B. Morrison, Alex R. Vaccaro, Mark E. Schweitzer, Adam E. Flanders Nov 2005

Posterior Longitudinal Ligament Status In Cervical Spine Bilateral Facet Dislocations, John A. Carrino, Geoffrey L. Manton, William B. Morrison, Alex R. Vaccaro, Mark E. Schweitzer, Adam E. Flanders

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

Objective: It is generally accepted that cervical spine bilateral facet dislocation results in complete disruption of the posterior longitudinal ligament. The goal of this study was to evaluate the integrity of numerous spine-stabilizing structures by MRI, and to determine if any associations between injury patterns exist with respect to the posterior longitudinal ligament status.

Design: Retrospective case series.

Patients: A retrospective review was performed of 30 cervical spine injury subjects with bilateral facet dislocation. Assessment of 1.5T MRI images was carried out for: intervertebral disc disruption, facet fracture, and ligamentous disruption. Statistical analyses were performed to evaluate for associations between …
