Use Of Track Plates To Quantify Predation Risk At Small Spatial Scales, Matthew J. Connors, Eric M. Schauber, Andrew Forbes, Clive G. Jones, Brett J. Goodwin, Richard S. Ostfeld
Publications
Spatial heterogeneity in risk is a critical component of predator-prey interactions. However, at small spatial scales, it is difficult to quantify predation risk without altering it. We used track plates to measure local predation risk created by white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) foraging activity on oak-forest plots in Millbrook, New York. Live gypsy moth pupae (Lymantria dispar) were placed at 2 heights on trees and monitored for predation. Pupae deployed on trees visited by mice were more likely to be eaten than those on trees not visited. Logistic regression indicated that predation rates on gypsy moth pupae were …

Isolation And Component Structure In Spaces Of Composition Operators, Christopher Hammond, Barbara D. Maccluer
Isolation And Component Structure In Spaces Of Composition Operators, Christopher Hammond, Barbara D. Maccluer
Mathematics Faculty Publications
We establish a condition that guarantees isolation in the space of composition operators acting between H p (B N ) and H q (B N ), for 0 < p ≤ ∞, 0 < q < ∞, and N ≥ 1. This result will allow us, in certain cases where 0 < q < p ≤ ∞, completely to characterize the component structure of this space of operators.

Article 51 Self-Defense As A Narrative: Spectators And Heroes In International Law, Gina Heathcote
Article 51 Self-Defense As A Narrative: Spectators And Heroes In International Law, Gina Heathcote
Texas Wesleyan Law Review
The subsequent three parts of this article take the following form. Part II introduces Article 51. Part III considers the manner in which Article 51 produces a narrative of spectatorship for the West. I draw on Al-Radi's narrative to highlight the massive gap between the narratives of Article 51, as it is perceived in mainstream academic accounts of Operation Desert Storm, and the reality of living with the consequential force. I am particularly concerned with the legal features of proportionality, collective self-defense, and the state as a "self" defending. In Part IV, I use the work of Mclnnes, Orford, and …

The Rose Man Of Sing Sing: A True Tale Of Life, Murder, And Redemption In The Age Of Yellow Journalism, James M. Morris
The Rose Man Of Sing Sing: A True Tale Of Life, Murder, And Redemption In The Age Of Yellow Journalism, James M. Morris
History
Today, seventy-three years after his death, journalists still tell tales of Charles E. Chapin. As city editor of Pulitzer’s New York Evening World , Chapin was the model of the take-no-prisoners newsroom tyrant: he drove reporters relentlessly—and kept his paper in the center ring of the circus of big-city journalism. From the Harry K. Thaw trial to the sinking of the Titanic , Chapin set the pace for the evening press, the CNN of the pre-electronic world of journalism.
In 1918, at the pinnacle of fame, Chapin’s world collapsed. Facing financial ruin, sunk in depression, he decided to kill himself …

Faculty-Librarian Collaboration To Teach Research Skills: Electronic Symbiosis, Navaz P. Bhavnagri, Veronica Bielat
Teacher Education Faculty Publications
This article discusses faculty-librarian collaboration to integrate technology in a course that focuses on teaching empirical research methodologies and library research skills to elementary and early childhood education graduate students. Vygotsky’s theory, standards in teacher education, and information literacy standards form the conceptual framework that supports this collaboration. The purpose and procedures of this collaboration, as well as student, faculty, and librarian outcomes, are discussed. This present collaboration on bibliographic instruction and the use of Blackboard courseware is framed within the context of past history of collaboration and future plans to expand this collaboration.
