Digital Asset Management System For Small Graphic Design Operations, Levy Chandra Jan 2005

Digital Asset Management System For Small Graphic Design Operations, Levy Chandra

Theses

According to the 1999 data of the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 75% of graphic design firms are small, with no more than four employees. Currently, there is a limited amount of literature relating to digital asset management (DAM) in relation to this population. These graphic design firms work on various projects using multiple digital assets for each, such as text, images, and fonts. Some firms choose to use proprietary asset management software to manage, search, and backup their assets, while others set up workflows that utilize existing network systems and graphic software.

This research is a case study which …

Generation Of A Combined Dataset Of Simulated Radar And Electro-Optical Imagery, Nancy L. Baccheschi Jan 2005

Generation Of A Combined Dataset Of Simulated Radar And Electro-Optical Imagery, Nancy L. Baccheschi

Theses

In the world of remote sensing there exist radar sensors and EO/IR sensors, both of which carry with them unique information useful to the imaging community. Radar has the capability of imaging through all types of weather, day or night. EO/IR produces radiance maps and frequently images at much finer resolution than radar. While each of these systems is valuable to imaging, there exists unknown territory in the imaging community as to the value added in combining the best of both these worlds. This work will begin to explore the challenges in simulating a scene in both a radar tool …

Securing Peer-To-Peer Overlay Networks, William Heinbockel Jan 2005

Securing Peer-To-Peer Overlay Networks, William Heinbockel

Theses

Overlay networks are virtual networks, which exist on top of the current Inter net architecture, and are used in support of peer-to-peer (P2P) applications. The virtualization provides overlays with the ability to create large, scalable, decentral ized networks with efficient routing. Many implementations of overlay networks have come out of academic research. Each provides a unique structure and routing configuration, aimed at increasing the overall network efficiency for a particular ap plication. However, they are all threatened by a similar set of severe vulnerabilities.

I explore some of these security deficiencies of overlay network designs and pro pose a new …

A Process Capability Index For Three-Dimensional Data With Circular Or Ellipsoidal Tolerances., Veljko Fotak Jan 2005

A Process Capability Index For Three-Dimensional Data With Circular Or Ellipsoidal Tolerances., Veljko Fotak

Theses

We discuss the estimation of a process capability index for three-dimensional data. Initially, we focus on the case in which the engineering tolerance associated with the measurements is a sphere. Then, we extend the discussion to the more general case in which the engineering tolerance is ellipsoidal. In both cases, we develop summary measures for repeatability and reproducibility, to be used in the context of a process capability index.

In the spherical tolerance case we define summary measures, where each measure is based on the diameter of a sphere that leads to a pre-specified capture rate (we will use here …

Modeling Multiple Scattering And Absorption For A Differential Absorption Lidar System, Daniel D. Blevins

Theses

The Digital Image and Remote Sensing Image Generation (DIRSIG) model has been developed and utilized to support research at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for over a decade. The model is an established, first-principles-based scene simulation tool that has been focused on passive multi- and hyper-spectral sensing from the visible to long wave infrared (0.4 to 14 pm). Leveraging photon mapping techniques utilized by the computer graphics community, a first-principles-based elastic Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) model was incorporated into the passive radiometry framework so that the model calculates arbitrary, time-gated photon counts at the sensor for atmospheric, topographic, …

The Visual Story Of Exodus: Educational Multimedia Bible, Inwook Choi

Theses

My project is an educational multi-media tool and is related to the religion: Christianity. It was made for the purpose of learning and teaching Exodus: One of the most important books in the Old Testament. As a Bible teacher, I have looked for many ways to teach the Bible effectively for more than ten years. I used to teach the Bible with some visual materials like videos, charts, maps, and sometimes I even created my own supplements because there was no way to find any appropriate visual material which showed customs and culture in the biblical time. When I used …

Web Service Infrastructure For Supply Chain, Pradip R. Chandratre Jan 2005

Web Service Infrastructure For Supply Chain, Pradip R. Chandratre

Theses

Managing a supply chain is one of the most complicated tasks today when erratic changes in demand must be met as soon as possible for staying competitive, while dealing with multitude of business partners that are involved in the chain. It is imperative that any changes in a corporation's product/service demand be immediately communicated with its suppliers and logistic service providers. This task of communication has long been overtaken by computerized systems from the telephones and fax machines. The computer technologies being used so far to connect two businesses are proving to be too rigid in today's world of mergers, …

Problem-Solving Advocacy In Mediations: A Model Of Client Representation, Harold Abramson Jan 2005

Problem-Solving Advocacy In Mediations: A Model Of Client Representation, Harold Abramson

Scholarly Works

Many sophisticated and experienced litigators realize that mediation calls for a different approach, but they still muddle through the mediation sessions. They are learning on the job. Even though many attorneys prefer a problem-solving approach to negotiations, attorneys are still in the early stages of figuring out how to do it in mediations. Many attorneys went to law school before courses on dispute resolution were offered, and the dispute resolution courses that have emerged in law schools over the last twenty-five years have been largely limited to teaching students to be mediators, not advocates. Continuing legal education programs are only …

Structural Advances For Pattern Discovery In Multi-Relational Databases, Juveria Kanodia Jan 2005

Structural Advances For Pattern Discovery In Multi-Relational Databases, Juveria Kanodia

Theses

With ever-growing storage needs and drift towards very large relational storage settings, multi-relational data mining has become a prominent and pertinent field for discovering unique and interesting relational patterns. As a consequence, a whole suite of multi-relational data mining techniques is being developed. These techniques may either be extensions to the already existing single-table mining techniques or may be developed from scratch. For the traditionalists, single-table mining algorithms can be used to work on multi-relational settings by making inelegant and time consuming joins of all target relations. However, complex relational patterns cannot be expressed in a single-table format and thus, …

Security In Serverless Network Environments, Carl Holtje Jan 2005

Security In Serverless Network Environments, Carl Holtje

Theses

As portable computing devices grow in popularity, so does the need for secure communications. Lacking tethers, these devices are ideal for forming small proximal groups in an ad-hoc fashion in environments where no server or permanent services are available. Members of these groups communicate over a broadcast or multicast network interconnect, and rely upon each other to form a cohesive group. While generally small in size and short in lifetime, security is a critical aspect of these groups that has received much academic attention in recent years. Much of the research focuses upon generating a common, group-wide private key suitable …

A Comparison Of Reputation-Based Trust Systems, John Folkerts Jan 2005

A Comparison Of Reputation-Based Trust Systems, John Folkerts

Theses

Recent literature contains many examples of reputation systems which are constructed in an ad hoc way or rely upon some heuristic which has been found to be useful. However, comparisons between these reputation systems has been impossible because there are no established methods of comparing performance. This paper introduces a simulation framework which can be used to perform comparison analysis between reputation models. Two reputation models, one from Abdul-Rahman and Hailes (ARH) [1], and one from Mui, Mohtashemi, and Halberstadt (MMH) [17] are implemented and compared with regard to accuracy, performance and resistance to deception. In order to improve performance …

Detection Of Deformable Objects In A Non-Stationary Scene, Sherif Azary Jan 2005

Detection Of Deformable Objects In A Non-Stationary Scene, Sherif Azary

Theses

Image registration is the process of determining a mapping between points of interest on separate images to achieve a correspondence. This is a fundamental area of many problems in computer vision including object recognition and motion tracking. This research focuses on applying image registration to identify differences between frames in non-stationary video scenes for the purpose of motion tracking. The major stages for the image registration process include point detection, image correspondence, and an affine transformation. After applying image registration to spatially align the image frames and detect areas of motion segmentation is applied to segment the moving deformable objects …

Confidentiality In Mediation: Is It Encouraging Good Mediation Or Bad Conduct, Sarah Williams Jan 2005

Confidentiality In Mediation: Is It Encouraging Good Mediation Or Bad Conduct, Sarah Williams

Journal of Dispute Resolution

Mediation has long been used in the judicial system of the United States to offer an alternative to litigation which can save time and money. Not only have its cost-effective and time efficient attributes contributed to its use, but the judiciary and legislature have often encouraged its use in order to mitigate the number of cases in the court system. In some states, the legislature has enacted statutes to make mediation mandatory before certain adjudications will even take place. Furthermore, to encourage these mediations to settle, many legislatures and jurisdictions have enacted statutes to protect the confidentiality of the mediation. …

Automated Extraction Of Disease-Gene Relationships From Medline, Jennifer R. Paine Jan 2005

Automated Extraction Of Disease-Gene Relationships From Medline, Jennifer R. Paine

Theses

The increasing amount of scientific information available to researchers in the form of biomedical literature is beginning to bring about a need for the development of tools to extract information automatically from these sources. One segment of information of particular interest to researchers is the linkage information between genes and diseases. These linkages can help researchers interpret large-scale genomics studies as well as make logical connections between gene expression levels and certain phenotypes. To make the finding and collecting of this information practical, automated methods of information extraction are required. In this paper, I propose a method for the automated …

Effect Of Flexing On The Barrier Properties Of Metallized Films, Anjum Parkar Jan 2005

Effect Of Flexing On The Barrier Properties Of Metallized Films, Anjum Parkar

Theses

One of the major concerns with respect to metallized films is the effect of flexing on their barrier properties. Films encounter a series of mechanical stress situations during manufacturing, processing, handling, and distribution. These mechanical stresses often result in flexing of the packaging film, which is more prominent with metallized films. The first part of my study evaluates the effect of real stresses of flex by using packages already manufactured and that have been through the distribution cycle. Metallized film samples from these packages were tested to see the effect of real stress on their barrier properties. The results showed …
