(1) The Bible The primary text is the Bible. As a part of your work, feel free to draw on the Revised Standard Version (RSV), the New American Standard Bible (NASB), the New International Version (NIV), the New Jerusalem Bible (NJB), and the New American Bible (NAB). There are several versions which are not suitable as the primary texts for this class. For example, translations that are done by a single translator (e.g., The Message), or translations which are simply paraphrases built from an English text (e.g., The Living Bible [not to be confused with the New Living Translation]). However, …

Legal Online Marketing Issues: The Opportunities And Challenges, Michael T. Zugelder

Finance Faculty Publications

This chapter will review several emerging issues associated with e-marketing from the perspective of Web sites including intellectual property, information management, and contracting. E-marketers in the years to come should not only consider the growing e-marketing opportunities but also be cognizant of the growing body of law governing marketing online. The law must be considered wherever e-marketers direct their efforts.

Holding Intellectual Property, Xuan-Thao Nguyen Jan 2005

Holding Intellectual Property, Xuan-Thao Nguyen

Articles

The collapse of WorldCom, Inc., exposed a complex web of accounting irregularities. Within that web, recent filings by Dick Thornburgh, WorldCom's Bankruptcy Court Examiner, reveal a different type of scheme that involves the holding of intellectual property. Further scrutinizing the scheme reveals that WorldCom and its tax advisors, KPMG Peat Marwick LLP (KPMG), devised a tax avoidance scheme through the creation of an intellectual property holding company (IP holding company). This type of scheme has been widely and quietly utilized in the last twenty years by many corporations with substantial intellectual property.

Indeed, as state taxing authorities have become more …

Memory And Pluralism On A Property Law Frontier, The Contested Landscape Of New Mexico's Costilla Valley, Gregory A. Hicks

Articles

This article describes the decades-long dispute between Hispano settlers of the Costilla Valley in northern New Mexico's Sangre de Cristo Land Grant and the succession of entrepreneurial owners of the grant during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Through the U.S. Freehold Land and Emigration Company and its successors, the new Dutch and American owners sought to replace patterns of land and resource use developed during the Mexican period with patterns of use intended to support Anglo colonial settlement and intense development of the region's natural resources. The Dutch and American owners faced continuing resistance from the area's Hispano …

Teaching French Film In A Christian Context: Cédric Klapisch’S Un Air De Famille, Jolene Vos-Camy

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

Often, when viewing a foreign-language film, students are unable to pick up subtle cultural cues essential to the film’s message. If, however, students are well-prepared for a film, they become perceptive critics of the larger themes represented in the film. In this article I address pedagogical issues surrounding the use of Cédric Klapisch’s film, Un air de famille [Family Resemblances] based on my experience in teaching a new interdisciplinary course at Calvin College.
