Cs 340: Programming Language Workshop In C#, Krishnaprasad Thirunarayan

Computer Science & Engineering Syllabi

This course is designed as a self-study in C#. You are expected to learn the language and solve a set of programming problems assigned to you using MS Visual Studio .NET. There are no exams. We officially meet only once in the quarter. However, I will be available in the posted office hours for clarifications and discussions about the programming problems.

Cs 415: Social Implications Of Computing, Leo Finkelstein Oct 2005

Cs 415: Social Implications Of Computing, Leo Finkelstein

Computer Science & Engineering Syllabi

CS 415 is a communication skills course using as its subject matter current salient issues associated with the social implications of computing. In addition to the course text, you will need to use certain reading materials in the library and elsewhere, and you will be responsible for using concepts and theories provided in class lectures and discussions. The goal of this course is to blend social implications issues with common technical communication formats you'll need to be familiar with out in the "real world." To do this, the course is built around a research project on a social implications topic …

Cs 241: Introduction To Computer Science Ii, Praveen Kakumanu

Computer Science & Engineering Syllabi

This course is the second in the three course sequence "Introduction to Computer Science" offered by the Computer Science department, WSU. It focuses on tools for building abstract data types (using structure and class concepts in C++) and Object-Oriented Programming. We also begin the study of data structures in this course.

Benzothiadiazoles And Dipyrrolyl Quinoxalines With Extended Conjugated Chromophores−Fluorophores And Anion Sensors, Dmitry Aldakov, Manuel A. Palacios, Pavel Anzenbacher Jr. Oct 2005

Benzothiadiazoles And Dipyrrolyl Quinoxalines With Extended Conjugated Chromophores−Fluorophores And Anion Sensors, Dmitry Aldakov, Manuel A. Palacios, Pavel Anzenbacher Jr.

Chemistry Faculty Publications

Stable fluorescent chromophores find use in a growing number of practical applications, including their utility as laser dyes,1 emitters in light-emitting diodes,2 photoconductors,3 optical data storage,4 and optical switches.5 Stable fluorophores with high quantum yields are widely used in fluorescent sensors6 and labels.7 These became very popular lately, owing to their potential for high sensitivity at low concentration coupled with decreased cost of the required equipment.8 Recently, we have described a new class of fluorescent anion sensors bearing extended conjugated chromophores9 with incorporated 2,3-di(1H-2-pyrrolyl)quinoxaline, (DPQ), as the anion recognition element.10 Literature shows that DPQ binds anions via hydrogen bonding between …

Regularity Of Digits And Significant Digits Of Random Variables, Theodore P. Hill, Klaus Schürger Oct 2005

Regularity Of Digits And Significant Digits Of Random Variables, Theodore P. Hill, Klaus Schürger

Research Scholars in Residence

A random variable X is digit-regular (respectively, significant-digit-regular) if the probability that every block of k given consecutive digits (significant digits) appears in the b-adic expansion of X approaches b-k as the block moves to the right, for all integers b>1 and k≥1. Necessary and sufficient conditions are established, in terms of convergence of Fourier coefficients, and in terms of convergence in distribution modulo 1, for a random variable to be digit-regular (significant-digit-regular), and basic relationships between digit-regularity and various classical classes of probability measures and normal numbers are given. These results provide a theoretical basis for analyses …

Integration Of The Shel Model With The Flight Operational Quality Assurance (Foqa) Program, James T. Schultz, Scott Forn, Marian C. Schultz Oct 2005

Integration Of The Shel Model With The Flight Operational Quality Assurance (Foqa) Program, James T. Schultz, Scott Forn, Marian C. Schultz

Publications

The SHEL Model has been used to explore relationships between liveware, environmental, hardware and software factors. This study attempts to integrate Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) program data with the SHEL model. Aircraft record data that can be used to monitor the human interface within the entire system, plus identify faults and potential failures within the system before a major accident or incident occurs. These data have existed for over four decades, and FOQA offers a way to both analyze and act upon them. The relationships between the SHEL model and FOQA data can help to ensure our nation's skies …

Numerical Comparative Law: Do We Need Statistical Evidence In Law In Order To Reduce Complexity?, Mathias M. Siems

Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law

The article explores the use of numerical methods in comparative law, questioning whether statistical approaches can effectively simplify legal complexity without oversimplification. It examines both the potential benefits and drawbacks of quantifying legal systems, arguing that while numerical methods can enhance practical utility, they must be used cautiously to avoid neglecting legal complexity and contextual factors.

A Mathematical Approach To Benefit-Detriment Analysis As A Solution To Compulsory Licensing Of Pharmaceuticals Under The Trips Agreement, Vishal Gupta Oct 2005

A Mathematical Approach To Benefit-Detriment Analysis As A Solution To Compulsory Licensing Of Pharmaceuticals Under The Trips Agreement, Vishal Gupta

Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law

The note proposes a mathematical approach to benefit-detriment analysis as a solution to the challenges posed by compulsory licensing of pharmaceuticals under the TRIPS Agreement. The core argument is that a socio-economic framework, comparing the monetary detriment to pharmaceutical companies (D) with the aggregate societal benefit (H x C), where H is the average health benefit per person and C is the number of affected citizens, can provide a balanced and objective method to determine when compulsory licenses should be granted. This approach aims to address the "Paragraph 6 problem" and improve access to essential medicines in developing countries while …

The Industrial Platinum Cycle For Russia: A Case Study Of Materials Accounting, O. A. Babakina, T. E. Graedel Oct 2005

The Industrial Platinum Cycle For Russia: A Case Study Of Materials Accounting, O. A. Babakina, T. E. Graedel

Yale School of the Environment Publications Series

Platinum is a strategic resource for the world economy and appears to be unsubstitutable in many of its uses. As a consequence, establishing its life cycle and quantifying net increases and decreases may serve as a basis for detecting lifecycle wide opportunities for increasing recycling and reuse of platinum. With this aim, we have characterized the platinum cycle for the Russian Federation for the year 2000. It was found that most of the platinum produced in Russia was exported immediately(21,300 kg Pt/yr (82%)), while the remainder was stockpiled (2,200 kg Pt/yr (8.5%)) or used domestically (2,450 kg Pt/yr, (9.4%)). Russia …

Review Of Lewis And Clark And The Geology Of The Great Plains And Lewis And Clark And The Geology Of Nebraska And Parts Of Adjacent States, Harmon D. Maher Jr. Oct 2005

Review Of Lewis And Clark And The Geology Of The Great Plains And Lewis And Clark And The Geology Of Nebraska And Parts Of Adjacent States, Harmon D. Maher Jr.

Geography and Geology Faculty Publications

When it comes to science in general, and the geology of the Great Plains in particular, there is arguably an imbalance between the wealth of material written for experts and the relative paucity written for the general public. These publications help correct that imbalance at a time when the various Lewis and Clark celebrations create an especially receptive and engaged audience.
