Translated Opinions

Facts: The government decided to reduce the amount of income supplement benefit paid to individuals and families, and to cancel several subsidies given to persons receiving income supplement benefit. The reduction in the amount of income supplement benefit and the cancellation of the subsidies were incorporated into the Income Supplement Law by means of the State Economy Arrangements (Legislative Amendments for Achieving the Budget Goals and the Economic Policy for the 2003 Fiscal Year) Law, 5763-2002.

The petitioners attacked the reduction in the benefit and the cancellation of the subsidies, on the ground that they violated the human right to …

The Myths and Legends of Holy Cross
Folklorists agree that college campuses are ideal breeding grounds for urban legends and a quick inventory of Holy Cross myths confirms that assessment. The exorcism in the spire. The Jeanne Dixon prophecy. The horse on the roof of Kimball Hall. In this issue, HCM digs into these and other curious stories that perennially bloom on Mount St. James.

Analysis Of Indentation Loading Of Cortical Bone Using Acoustic Emission Techniques, Ashkan Safari, Ger Reilly, Brendan Mccormack Dec 2005

Analysis Of Indentation Loading Of Cortical Bone Using Acoustic Emission Techniques, Ashkan Safari, Ger Reilly, Brendan Mccormack

Conference Papers

In this study, we recorded the number of Acoustic emission (AE) hits and related AE energy during indentation fracture of cortical bone using a PAC PCI-2 card and pico sensor. A threshold value of 43dB was used to filter premature trigger due to background noise. Registered AE hits had more than one count (threshold crossing). Amplifier gain was set at 40dB with a (0.1-1) MHz band pass filter. 8mm cubes of cortical bones were indented in the longitudinal direction at constant crosshead speed of 1 mm min-1 using a large 2D, 50˚ wedge indenter. We hypothesised that signals occurring as …

Some Preliminary Statistical, Qualitative, And Anecdotal Findings Of An Empirical Study Of Collegiality Among Law Professors, Michael L. Seigel Dec 2005

Some Preliminary Statistical, Qualitative, And Anecdotal Findings Of An Empirical Study Of Collegiality Among Law Professors, Michael L. Seigel

ExpressO

This article is an empirically-based follow-up to a piece I published last year in the Journal of Legal Education entitled, On Collegiality, 54 J. Legal Educ. 406 (2004). It provides insight into the process of conducting empirical research and sets forth some preliminary – yet very intriguing – data and qualitative information gleaned from a survey responded to by more than 1200 law professors nationwide. The survey addressed a wide range of topics related to collegiality and job satisfaction in the legal-academic profession.

Reliability And Validity Of Virtual Build Methodology For Ergonomics Analyses, Tinghao Wu Dec 2005

Reliability And Validity Of Virtual Build Methodology For Ergonomics Analyses, Tinghao Wu

Theses and Dissertations

This study was conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the Virtual Build methodology for ergonomics design and analysis. Thirty-six human subjects participated in this study and performed a set of six tasks. The tasks were performed twice in both real and virtual environment. The subject?s motion in performing tasks was analyzed by ergonomics assessments by using Virtual Build methodology. Criteria-related validity was evaluated by comparing the Virtual Build ergonomic assessment results with manual calculation. Test-retest reliability was evaluated by correlating ergonomics assessment results between two trials. The result shows that the Virtual Build methodology is reliable for ergonomic …

Two- And Three-Plane Job Risk Classification Using Motion Capture: An Examination Of The Marras Et Al. Model, 1993, Tara Marie Cappelli Dec 2005

Two- And Three-Plane Job Risk Classification Using Motion Capture: An Examination Of The Marras Et Al. Model, 1993, Tara Marie Cappelli

Theses and Dissertations

Lower Back Disorders account for 16-19% of work related claims and 33-41% of dollars paid in workers? compensation (as cited in Marras, 1999), with impacts to society approaching $100 billion dollars annually (as cited in Marras et al., 1999). Dr. William Marras engineered a device to track trunk kinematics in order to develop a Job Risk Classification Model for predicting high-risk group probability of lower back injury. The device has been validated, but other technologies such as 3-D motion capture can potentially gather the same data. This study examined the use of motion capture to apply two- and three-plane lifting …

A Micro-Cooling, Heating, And Power (M-Chp) Instructional Module, Jason Ryan Oliver Dec 2005

A Micro-Cooling, Heating, And Power (M-Chp) Instructional Module, Jason Ryan Oliver

Theses and Dissertations

Cooling, Heating, and Power (CHP) is an emerging category of energy systems consisting of power generation equipment coupled with thermally activated components. The application of CHP systems to residential and small commercial buildings is known as micro-CHP (m-CHP). This instructional module has been developed to introduce engineering students to m-CHP. In the typical engineering curriculum, a number of courses could contain topics related to m-CHP. Thermodynamics, heat transfer, HVAC, heat and power, thermal systems design, and alternate energy systems courses are appropriate m-CHP topics. The types of material and level of analysis for this range of courses vary. In thermodynamics …

Design And Evaluation Of A Large Scale Aerosol Generator, Tracy Kristina Hogancamp Dec 2005

Design And Evaluation Of A Large Scale Aerosol Generator, Tracy Kristina Hogancamp

Theses and Dissertations

The Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory (DIAL) at Mississippi State University was awarded a project to study the feasibility of measuring particulate matter downstream of a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter by testing commercially available equipment used to monitor the downstream side of a HEPA filter. In order to perform the work required for this project, a test stand to accommodate a 12? x 12? x 11.5? HEPA filter with a rated flow of 250 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) was constructed. The test stand required an aerosol generator capable of producing a mass loading rate of 30 …
