Development Of A Centralized Database System For Embracing Horses And The Urban Farm, April D. Hoskins

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Embracing Horses and The Urban Farm at Stapleton, is a nonprofit organization whose mission statement is to connect children from inner city neighborhoods to their natural environment, instilling a sense of respect, appreciation, and, ultimately responsibility for the plants and animals which share that space and a working knowledge of responsible stewardship of those plants and animals. To achieve this mission a paper based and generic database system have been utilized to record information pertaining to volunteers, financial donors, program offerings, and mailing distributions. These current systems no longer meet the needs of the organization, as the number of children …

Referendum Petition To Overturn Law Authorizing Dog-Breed-Specific Ordinances. Oct 2005

Referendum Petition To Overturn Law Authorizing Dog-Breed-Specific Ordinances.

Initiatives

If signed by the required number of electors and timely filed with the Secretary of State, this petition will prevent implementation of Chapter 668, Statutes of 2005, previously approved by the Legislature and Governor, unless and until it is approved by the voters. Chapter 668 authorizes cities and counties to enact dog-breed-specific ordinances concerning mandatory spay or neuter programs and breeding requirements, but disallows local ordinances from declaring specific dog breeds potentially dangerous or vicious. Chapter 668 requires jurisdictions implementing such programs to report dog bites.

Immunocytochemical Localization Of Small-Conductance, Calcium-Dependent Potassium Channels In Astrocytes Of The Rat Supraoptic Nucleus, William E. Armstrong, Adam Rubrum, Ryoichi Teruyama, Chris T. Bond, John P. Adelman Oct 2005

Immunocytochemical Localization Of Small-Conductance, Calcium-Dependent Potassium Channels In Astrocytes Of The Rat Supraoptic Nucleus, William E. Armstrong, Adam Rubrum, Ryoichi Teruyama, Chris T. Bond, John P. Adelman

Faculty Publications

Supraoptic nucleus (SON) neurons possess a prominent afterhyperpolarization (AHP) that contributes to spike patterning. This AHP is probably underlain by a small-conductance, CA2+-dependent, K+ type 3 (SK3) channel. To determine the distribution of SK3 channels within the SON, we used immunocytochemistry in rats and in transgenic mice with a regulatory cassette on the SK3 gene, allowing regulated expression with dietary doxycycline (DOX). In rats and wild-type mice, SK3 immunostaining revealed an intense lacy network surrounding SON neurons, with weak staining in neuronal somata and dendrites. In untreated, conditional SK3 knockout mice, SK3 was overexpressed, but the pericellular pattern in the …

An Sas Macro For Implementing The Modified Bollen–Stine Bootstrap For Missing Data: Implementing The Bootstrap Using Existing Structural Equation Modeling Software, Craig K. Enders Oct 2005

An Sas Macro For Implementing The Modified Bollen–Stine Bootstrap For Missing Data: Implementing The Bootstrap Using Existing Structural Equation Modeling Software, Craig K. Enders

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

The Bollen–Stine bootstrap can be used to correct for standard error and fit statistic bias that occurs in structural equation modeling (SEM) applications due to nonnormal data. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the use of a custom SAS macro program that can be used to implement the Bollen–Stine bootstrap with existing SEM software. Although this article focuses on missing data, the macro can be used with complete data sets as well. A series of heuristic analyses are presented, along with detailed programming instructions for each of the commercial SEM software packages.

Sluice Boxes On The Shores: An Environmental History Of Gold Mining On Oregon's South Coast, Tania Louise Hyatt-Evenson Oct 2005

Sluice Boxes On The Shores: An Environmental History Of Gold Mining On Oregon's South Coast, Tania Louise Hyatt-Evenson

Dissertations and Theses

Environmental historians have researched, analyzed, and concluded that gold mining significantly altered the environment in Southern Oregon. Environmental case studies have examined mining's impact on the watersheds in the Rogue Valley, but none have analyzed the effect gold miners had on the Southern Oregon coast. While gold mining occurred on the South Coast from the 1850s to the 1940s, on a smaller scale, the impact from environmental change is just as significant. The purpose of this study is to understand how mining changed the landscape of the South Coast, and how this change affected the human populations that lived in …

Liability Under The Americans With Disabilities Act For Private Web Site Operators, Evgenia Fkiaras Oct 2005

Liability Under The Americans With Disabilities Act For Private Web Site Operators, Evgenia Fkiaras

Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”) is silent on the specific question of whether privately owned websites fall within its provisions. There is a circuit split on the issue, although the only case directly on point makes mandatory website compliance the exception rather than the rule. Nevertheless, given the direction that the law will probably head and the relative ease of making websites accessible to the group most in need—those who require the use of assistive technologies—it behooves businesses to construct or alter their websites to accommodate these individuals.

Technological And Administrative Factors Implementing A Virtual Human Biospecimen Repository, Philip J. Kroth, Vann Schaffner, Mary Lipscomb Oct 2005

Technological And Administrative Factors Implementing A Virtual Human Biospecimen Repository, Philip J. Kroth, Vann Schaffner, Mary Lipscomb

Posters and Presentations

The value of human biospecimens available for research dramatically increases when linked with their accumulated clinical and molecular (genomic, proteomic, subcellular modeling) data. Further, informatics tools make it possible for researchers (both intra- and inter-institutionally) to locate tissue needed for research faster and more reliably. We are developing a virtual human biospecimen repository to both inventory and link all human biospecimens with clinical and genomics data to optimize their value for research, while satisfying all privacy and human subjects protections regulations.

Progress Towards Terahertz Acoustic Phonon Generation In Doping Superlattices, Thomas E. Wilson Oct 2005

Progress Towards Terahertz Acoustic Phonon Generation In Doping Superlattices, Thomas E. Wilson

Physics Faculty Research

Progress is described in experiments to generate coherent terahertz acoustic phonons in silicon doping superlattices by the resonant absorption of nanosecond-pulsed far-infrared laser radiation. Future experiments are proposed that would use the superlattice as a transducer in a terahertz cryogenic acoustic reflection microscope with sub-nanometer resolution.
