The Equator Principles: The Voluntary Approach To Environmentally Sustainable Finance, Benjamin J. Richardson Jan 2005

The Equator Principles: The Voluntary Approach To Environmentally Sustainable Finance, Benjamin J. Richardson

Articles & Book Chapters

This article considers the Equator Principles, a voluntary code for environmentally responsible project financing by commercial and investment banks. The value of voluntary environmental approaches is increasingly recognised in the European Union, and in its Sixth Environment Action Programme, the European Commission advocated a voluntary initiative with the financial sector to promote harmonised standards for green lending and investing. The article begins by explaining the broader relevance of financial institutions to sustainable development. The nature and effectiveness of voluntary environmental measures to engage the private sector is canvassed before looking at the Equator Principles in detail. The article explains what …

The Impact Of Victim-Offender Familial Relationships On Capital Sentencing Outcomes, Katharine D. Evans Jan 2005

The Impact Of Victim-Offender Familial Relationships On Capital Sentencing Outcomes, Katharine D. Evans

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study is an investigation of whether familial relationships among offenders and their victims affect capital sentencing. Using a sample of capital cases from North Carolina restricted to familial homicides, logistic regression models are used while controlling for legal and extra-legal factors that influence decision outcomes. Such models of capital sentencing are developed to (1) determine whether familial-victim cases have unique correlates; and (2) whether there are variations in the effects of these correlates across gender. Contradictory to these hypotheses, results suggest that acquaintance and stranger relationships are less likely to receive a capital outcome when compared to familial relationships. …

High Resistivity Zinc Stannate As A Buffer Layer In Cds/Cdte Solar Cells, Sudhakar R. Gayam Jan 2005

High Resistivity Zinc Stannate As A Buffer Layer In Cds/Cdte Solar Cells, Sudhakar R. Gayam

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The electrical conductivity of transparent conducting oxides is well exploited in front surface electrodes for solar cells where high transmission is also important. Fluorine doped tin oxide (SnO2: F) is the most popular choice of front contacts for CdTe solar cells. In this thesis, Cd2SnO4 and Zn2SnO4 thin films are investigated focusing on their electrical and optical properties and used them in solar cells. Processing for these materials is optimized for optimum solar cell performance.

Cd2SnO4 thin films are deposited by co-sputtering of CdO and SnO2 targets in …

Liberation Theology Of Disability And The Option For The Poor, Scot Danforth Jan 2005

Liberation Theology Of Disability And The Option For The Poor, Scot Danforth

Education Faculty Articles and Research

A liberation theology of disability provides a spiritual discourse that unites a critical analysis of the economic dimensions of disability oppression with an appreciation for the lived experience of disabled persons. This paper builds from prior liberation theology scholarship and the Catholic theological concept called the preferential option for the poor to articulate a liberation theology of disability marked by critical social analysis, humility, hope, and love.

Parent-Teacher Collaboration For Students With Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Role Of Teacher Training, Amber Hays '05 Jan 2005

Parent-Teacher Collaboration For Students With Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Role Of Teacher Training, Amber Hays '05

Honors Projects

Over twenty years of research has demonstrated that collaborative relationships between parents and teachers are invaluable in enhancing the educational success of all students and are especially meaningful when students have ASD (e.g., Ruble & Dalrymple, 2002). However, collaborative relationships are often difficult to develop because many educators remain uninformed about ASD (Helps, Newsom-Davis, & Callias, 1999) and untrained in working with parents (Lazar & Slostad, 1999). The present study evaluated the ability of an intervention to (a) encourage more positive attitudes toward parent-teacher collaboration, (b) increase general knowledge about ASD, and (c) boost comfort, competence, and confidence levels with …

Trends In The Timing Of First Marriage Among Men And Women In The Developing World, Barbara Mensch, Susheela Singh, John B. Casterline Jan 2005

Trends In The Timing Of First Marriage Among Men And Women In The Developing World, Barbara Mensch, Susheela Singh, John B. Casterline

Poverty, Gender, and Youth

The timing of first union merits investigation not only because of the close temporal link between marriage and the onset of childbearing, but also because the age when men and women marry has implications for the organization of family life and for gender relations within society. This paper begins by reviewing the contributions of various social science disciplines to an understanding of the timing of marriage. Using current status data from 73 countries provided by the United Nations Population Division and retrospective data from 52 Demographic and Health Surveys conducted between 1990 and 2001, we then examine recent trends in …
