The Effects Of Fluency Training On Performance, Maintenance, And Generalization Of Parenting Skills, Gertie Williams Dec 2005

The Effects Of Fluency Training On Performance, Maintenance, And Generalization Of Parenting Skills, Gertie Williams

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The effects of fluency training on performance, maintenance, and generalization of parent training skills were examined within the context of a classroom and home setting. Three foster parents attended a 24-hour Parenting Tools for Positive Behavior Change (PBC) course. Participants completed timed fluency drills using flash cards to increase learning and performance of PBC tools. A non-concurrent multiple baseline design across participants was used to assess participant performance on flash card drills and PBC tools during in-class, pre-test, and post-test role plays, and in novel situations with children in the home before, during and after the course. Results showed that …

Reforming The Appellate Process For Pennsylvania Capital Punishment, Paul R. Teichert Dec 2005

Reforming The Appellate Process For Pennsylvania Capital Punishment, Paul R. Teichert

ExpressO

The death penalty has long been a staple of governmental punishment. It has been incorporated in the Hammurabi Code of ancient Babylon on down to the current laws of many American States. In early America, capital punishment, exercised at the local level, was ubiquitous and widely accepted. Pennsylvania lists itself among the states currently employing the death penalty. The death penalty in Pennsylvania began in the late 1600’s when the first colonists carried out public hangings as a punishment for various crimes. The public nature of the punishment, initially, was intended to deter community members from committing the same crimes. …

Estimation Of Iron Solubility From Observations And A Global Aerosol Model, Chao Luo, N. M. Mahowald, N. Meskhidze, Y. Chen, R. L. Siefert, A. R. Baker, Anne M. Johansen Dec 2005

Estimation Of Iron Solubility From Observations And A Global Aerosol Model, Chao Luo, N. M. Mahowald, N. Meskhidze, Y. Chen, R. L. Siefert, A. R. Baker, Anne M. Johansen

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences

Mineral aerosol deposition is the dominant source of iron to the open ocean. Soil iron is typically insoluble and understanding the atmospheric processes that convert insoluble iron to the more soluble forms observed over the oceans is crucial. In this paper, we model several proposed processes for the conversion of Fe(III) to Fe(II), and compare with cruise observations. The comparisons show that the model results in similar averaged magnitudes of iron solubility as measured during 8 cruises in 2001–2003. Comparisons show that results of cases including cloud, SO2 and hematite processing are better than the other approaches used using …

Executive Compensation, Corporate Governance, And The Partner-Manager, Richard A. Booth Marbury Research Professor Of Law Dec 2005

Executive Compensation, Corporate Governance, And The Partner-Manager, Richard A. Booth Marbury Research Professor Of Law

Faculty Scholarship

In the debate over executive compensation, the assumption seems to be that the CEO of a publicly traded corporation is ultimately an employee of the corporation. According to the conventional view, the business belongs to the stockholders. Executive compensation is an expense like any other business expense that must be subtracted from income in reckoning stockholder return. The central problem has been that the CEO has too much power, and the board of directors has not acted as an effective monitor. Thus, the problem of executive compensation appears to be a thinly disguised problem of self-dealing. Professor Booth argues here …

Intrinsic Conformational Preferences Of Substituted Cyclohexanes And Tetrahydropyrans Evaluated At The Ccsd(T) Complete Basis Set Limit: Implications For The Anomeric Effect, Abby Jones Weldon, Trisha L. Vickrey, Gregory S. Tschumper Dec 2005

Intrinsic Conformational Preferences Of Substituted Cyclohexanes And Tetrahydropyrans Evaluated At The Ccsd(T) Complete Basis Set Limit: Implications For The Anomeric Effect, Abby Jones Weldon, Trisha L. Vickrey, Gregory S. Tschumper

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

A series of MP2 and CCSD(T) computations have been carried out with correlation consistent basis sets as large as aug-cc-pV5Z to determine the intrinsic equatorial-axial conformational preference of CH 3-, F-, OCH 3-, and OH-substituted cyclohexane and tetrahydropyran rings. The high-accuracy relative electronic energies reported here shed new light on the intrinsic energetics of these cyclic prototypes for the anomeric effect. At the CCSD(T) complete basis set (CBS) limit, the energy of the equatorial conformation relative to the axial position (ΔE CCSD(T)CBC) is -0.75, -0.20, -0.21, and -0.56 kcal mol -1 in methyl-, fluoro-, methoxy-, and hydroxy cyclohexane, respectively, while …

The Solubility Of Triton X-114 And Tergitol 15-S-9 In High-Pressure Carbon Dioxide Solutions, Brandon Smeltzer Dec 2005

The Solubility Of Triton X-114 And Tergitol 15-S-9 In High-Pressure Carbon Dioxide Solutions, Brandon Smeltzer

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In the sol gel production of high surface area catalyst, the template, a surfactant, is

the key component of the process. A template too soluble in the supercritical dryingextraction

process can yield a catalyst with a lower surface area. A template completely

insoluble in the supercritical drying-extraction process can lead to a longer calcinations

step and lower catalyst surface area. Template recovery also enhances the economic

feasibility of plant scale production of high surface area catalyst. For these reasons

knowing surfactant solubility in supercritical media is important.

The solubility of surfactants tert-octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol (commercially

available and hereafter referred to as Triton …

Metacognitive Strategies In A Web-Enhanced Environment: The Effects On Achievement In Problem-Solving For Engineering Undergraduates, Sally A. Zabel Dec 2005

Metacognitive Strategies In A Web-Enhanced Environment: The Effects On Achievement In Problem-Solving For Engineering Undergraduates, Sally A. Zabel

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study focused on the effects of using metacognitive strategy cuing integrated into problem-solving activities in a web-based learning environment. Purposes of the study were to investigate: (a) differences in posttest achievement between students who received metacognitive strategies embedded as cues in engineering problem sets and students who did not receive the treatment; (b) differences in perceptions of problem-solving skills between students who received metacognitive strategies embedded as cues in engineering problem set and students who did not receive the treatment; (c) differences in thermodynamics knowledge; (d) problem-solving steps students reported using across problem sets; (e) characteristics of sampled students, …
