Job Satisfaction Of Community College Academic Deans, Donald Gary Goff Oct 2004

Job Satisfaction Of Community College Academic Deans, Donald Gary Goff

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to conduct a national survey to examine job satisfaction of community college academic deans as measured by the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) and an Individual Data Sheet (IDS) and to determine if academic deans will pursue the community college presidency in meeting the current leadership crisis. This study assessed the relationship of selected personal characteristics, unit-related characteristics, facets of job satisfaction, and career aspirations of academic deans. Six research questions directed this study. Four hundred community college academic deans were randomly assigned as participants and represented all 50 states. The usable response rate from …

A Functional-Based Distribution Diagnostic For A Linear Model With Correlated Outcomes: Technical Report, E. Andres Houseman, Brent Coull, Louise Ryan Oct 2004

A Functional-Based Distribution Diagnostic For A Linear Model With Correlated Outcomes: Technical Report, E. Andres Houseman, Brent Coull, Louise Ryan

Harvard University Biostatistics Working Paper Series

Despite the widespread popularity of linear models for correlated outcomes (e.g. linear mixed modesl and time series models), distribution diagnostic methodology remains relatively underdeveloped in this context. In this paper we present an easy-to-implement approach that lends itself to graphical displays of model fit. Our approach involves multiplying the estimated marginal residual vector by the Cholesky decomposition of the inverse of the estimated marginal variance matrix. Linear functions or the resulting "rotated" residuals are used to construct an empirical cumulative distribution function (ECDF), whose stochastic limit is characterized. We describe a resampling technique that serves as a computationally efficient parametric …

Cholesky Residuals For Assessing Normal Errors In A Linear Model With Correlated Outcomes: Technical Report, E. Andres Houseman, Louise Ryan, Brent Coull

Harvard University Biostatistics Working Paper Series

Despite the widespread popularity of linear models for correlated outcomes (e.g. linear mixed models and time series models), distribution diagnostic methodology remains relatively underdeveloped in this context. In this paper we present an easy-to-implement approach that lends itself to graphical displays of model fit. Our approach involves multiplying the estimated margional residual vector by the Cholesky decomposition of the inverse of the estimated margional variance matrix. The resulting "rotated" residuals are used to construct an empirical cumulative distribution function and pointwise standard errors. The theoretical framework, including conditions and asymptotic properties, involves technical details that are motivated by Lange and …

Legal Writing And Academic Support: Timing Is Everything, Dionne L. Koller Oct 2004

Legal Writing And Academic Support: Timing Is Everything, Dionne L. Koller

Faculty Scholarship

The conventional wisdom is that legal writing and academic support go hand-in-hand. Most law schools assume that struggling students can be reliably identified for academic support through their first-year legal writing course, and that first-year legal writing instructors can fairly easily and effectively provide this support. Indeed, this is the prevailing view in current academic support and legal writing scholarship. Professor Koller's article challenges the conventional wisdom and instead points out several issues that should be considered if a law school relies on the first-year legal writing course as a component of, or in lieu of, an academic support program. …

A Laboratory Course On Antenna Measurement, Samuel Parker, Dean Y. Arakaki Oct 2004

A Laboratory Course On Antenna Measurement, Samuel Parker, Dean Y. Arakaki

Electrical Engineering

This paper presents background information and experiment procedures for an antenna measurement laboratory course to be held in a new anechoic chamber at California Polytechnic State University. The lab consists of five experiments and one design project intended to give students practical experience with antenna measurement techniques and to creatively apply analytical skills to design, construct, and test antennas that meet given specifications. The experiments reinforce antenna principles including E-field polarization, antenna gain, radiation patterns, image theory, and frequency response.

In addition to the experiment procedures, this paper presents the design and characterization of Helical Beam (RHCP and LHCP) and …

Absorber Foam Characterization For Predicting Overall Anechoic Chamber Performance, Christopher R. Brito, Aloysius Aragon Lubiano, Newlyn Hui, Dean Y. Arakaki Oct 2004

Absorber Foam Characterization For Predicting Overall Anechoic Chamber Performance, Christopher R. Brito, Aloysius Aragon Lubiano, Newlyn Hui, Dean Y. Arakaki

Electrical Engineering

A new rectangular anechoic chamber (20’L x 10’W x 9’7”H) has been established at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) through donations and financial support from industry and Cal Poly departments and programs. The chamber was designed and constructed by three graduate students as part of their thesis studies to explore and further their understanding of chamber design and antenna measurements. The chamber project has included RF absorber characterization, overall chamber performance assessment, and software development for the coordination of a positioner with a vector network analyzer.

This paper presents absorber characterization as a function of incidence angle and orientation …
