1984 Is Still Fiction: Electronic Monitoring In The Workplace And U.S. Privacy Law, Christopher Pearson Fazekas

Duke Law & Technology Review

Electronic monitoring in the workplace has been the subject of relentless public criticism. Privacy advocates argue that technological advancements have given overbearing employers powerful tools to abuse employee dignity in the name of productivity and that new legislation should bolster workplace privacy rights. This iBrief contends that current U.S. legal doctrine governing electronic monitoring in the workplace is fair given the nature and purpose of the workplace, and potential employer liability for employee misconduct.

Correlating Technology Surveys And Third- And Fifth-Grade Proficiency Levels In Math And Reading Throughout Tennessee., Gary L. Lilly

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study used two different sets of data collected through two distinct means during the 2002-2003 school year. To fulfill the federal accountability requirements related to the distribution of monies known as EdTech (2002), the Tennessee State Department of Education required every school within districts that accepted the formula EdTech funds to complete an online survey called the EdTech Tennessee Online Technology Evaluation or E-TOTE. The E-TOTE survey collected information on a variety of topics related to educational technology including questions about teaching and learning, educators' preparation and development, infrastructure, and equipment counts. The other set of data came from …

Deception 101--Primer On Deception, Joseph W. Caddell Dr.

Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications

EBV transforms primary B cells, and the major EBV oncoprotein, latent membrane protein 1 (LMP-1), is required for the process. LMP-1 both induces the expression of IRF-7 and activates the IRF-7 protein by phosphorylation and nuclear translocation. Here we report that the expression of IRF-7 is increased in EBV-immortalized B lymphocytes compared with that in primary B cells. IRF-7 was phosphorylated and predominantly localized in the nucleus in the immortalized cells. The expression of IRF-7 was detected in 19 of 27 specimens of primary lymphomas of the human central nervous system by immunohistochemical analysis. The association between LMP-1 and IRF-7 …

Although human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) clade C continues to dominate the pandemic, only two infectious clade C proviral DNA clones have been described (N. Mochizuki, N. Otsuka, K. Matsuo, T. Shiino, A. Kojima, T. Kurata, K. Sakai, N. Yamamoto, S. Isomura, T. N. Dhole, Y. Takebe, M. Matsuda, and M. Tatsumi, AIDS Res. Hum. Retrovir. 15:1321–1324, 1999; T. Ndung’u, B. Renjifo, and M. Essex, J. Virol. 75:4964–4972, 2001). We have generated an infectious molecular clone of a pediatric clade C strain, HIV1084i, which was isolated from a Zambian infant infected either intrapartum or through breastfeeding. HIV1084i is an …

The Role Of The Clinical Immunology Laboratory In The Diagnosis And Monitoring Of Connective Tissue Diseases, Khalil A. Aziz, Abdul A. Faizal

Saudi Medical Journal

Connective tissue diseases CTD are a group of autoimmune systemic diseases that can affect any organ-system in the body. The initial clinical presentations of these diseases overlap, not only with each other, but also with a wide range of other rheumatological and non-rheumatological disorders. Due to these reasons, clinicians depend heavily on the use of the clinical immunology laboratory for the diagnosis of CTD. A large number of tests exist in the laboratory for the investigation of CTD and each test can be performed by a number of different methods, each with its own limitations. Consequently, the significance of the …
