Separations Technology VI: New Perspectives on Very Large-Scale Operations

The Special Report on Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage was recently accepted by IPCC (1). In the context of optimization and integration of CO2 capture and sequestration, CO2 capture is a particularly important step. This paper presents a broad overview of key issues of CO2 capture technologies in the Japanese R&D, focusing on their application to large-scale power plants.

Separations Technology VI: New Perspectives on Very Large-Scale Operations

This study was designed to investigate the nature of nickel and cobalt dissolution from limonite and weathered saprolite ores. Chemical leaching was conducted using 1 to 3M of citric, lactic and malic acids. These tests aimed to mimic metal dissolution achieved using heterotrophic or fungi organism and their corresponding metabolic products. The results in this study was able to demonstrate the effect of secondary reaction or adsorption, pulp density and the potential hampering effect of acid neutralizing minerals and acid activity or strength on metal dissolution. Some inventions never see the light of day. Others enter the spotlight after long delays and the factors that slowed the arrival of that innovation are ignored. Technology suppression is a real occurrence involving well known and widely used products. In this Article, we examine the topic of technology suppression, seeking to reveal the tactics of suppression and the patterns and conditions under which it occurs. Current examples of US technologies are used to highlight the significance of this phenomenon. Innovations in Math Technology

The internet has become widely available, and tools for mathematical computation on the net have now appeared. The authors used webMathematica software to create interactive web pages which allow students and faculty to compute and visualize results directly from a web browser. The nature of the innovation, its significance for instruction, and some implications for student understanding are discussed.

Psychodynamic Perspectives On Relationship: Implications Of New Findings From Human Attachment And The Neurosciences For Social Work Education, Jerrold R. Brandell, Shoshana Ringel

Social Work Faculty Publications

In this article, the historical significance of the therapeutic relationship in social casework theory and practice is discussed and elaborated on in relation to contemporary psychodynamic theories and constructs, such as the therapeutic alliance, the holding relationship, and selfobject theory. The significant contributions of investigators in such diverse fields as infant attachment, neurobiology, and feminist theory are then discussed in relation to these psychoanalytic ideas. Based in part upon recent research being conducted in such fields, a more central role is proposed for psychodynamic conceptions of relationship in the education of social work clinicians.

A Comparison Of Behavioural Change In Drosophila During Exposure To Thermal Stress, Angel G. Fasolo, Robert A. Krebs

In order to understand how adaptive tolerance to stress has evolved, we compared related species and populations of Drosophila for a variety of fitness relevant traits while flies directly experienced the stress. Two main questions were addressed. First, how much variation exists in the frequency of both courtship and mating among D. melanogaster, D. simulans, and D. mojavensis when each are exposed to a range of temperatures? Second, how does variation in these same behaviours compare among four geographically isolated populations of D. mojavensis, a desert species with a well defined ecology?
