A Case Study Of Automotive Technology Instructors' Experiences And Perceptions Of Curriculum Change In The Louisiana Technical College, John Robert Martin
A Case Study Of Automotive Technology Instructors' Experiences And Perceptions Of Curriculum Change In The Louisiana Technical College, John Robert Martin
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
The landscape of postsecondary education is changing in a variety of ways that present challenges and opportunities to educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders of higher education. One of the most significant areas of postsecondary educational change is in the community and technical college setting. The missions of both these institutional settings have changed to meet new technological demands, global economic competition, and societal issues. A consequence of mission change has been significant changes in the manner that instruction of technical education is conducted at these institutions. This case study explores automotive technology instructors' experiences and perceptions of changes in their …

Critical Discourse Analysis Of Sexual Enhancement Medication Ads, John-Paul Gomez
Critical Discourse Analysis Of Sexual Enhancement Medication Ads, John-Paul Gomez
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This study contributes to the expanding critical range of discourse analysis by analyzing texts used to market Viagra and other "sexual enhancement medication," pharmaceuticals that treat "erectile dysfunction". Applying elements of Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis framework, this study examines as cultural artifacts Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis print advertisements and television commercials and it offers insight into the institutional discourse of "sexual enhancement medication" and how this discourse constructs male identity and subjectivity.

The Philadelphia Story: A Guide To Service-Learning System Building, Kenny Holdsman, David Tuchmann

In June 1998, the Board of Education of the School District of Philadelphia passed a resolution mandating that all students demonstrate citizenship competencies by completing a service-learning project for promotion to grades 5 and 9 and for high school graduation. This resolution, part of Children Achieving–– Philadelphia’s education reform plan––launched an initiative supporting service-learning practice on an unprecedented scale for one school district.
Four years later, the District had formed partnerships with over 250 community agencies, trained 2,400 teachers in the philosophy and methodology of service-learning, and leveraged approximately $20 million per year in financial and in-kind resources to support …

Iowa Physicians: Legitimacy, Institutions, And The Practice Of Medicine, Part Two: Putting Science Into Practice, 1887–1928, Susan C. Lawrence
Department of History: Faculty Publications
The second in a three-part series offering an overview of the history of medicine in Iowa from Euro-American settlement through World War II, this survey like part one, concentrates on physicians, medical institutions, public health, and state laws. Such a perspective entails omissions. Physicians were by no means the only people who served the ill and injured between 1887 and 1928. Midwives, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, neighbors, relatives, itinerant healers, and nostrum purveyors all provided a …
