The Yosemite Butterflies (Text), And The Yosemite Butterflies (Text): Supplement Of Additional Information, Collections And Corrections For Volume 5, No. 1, Kenneth E. Davenport
The Taxonomic Report of the International Lepidoptera Survey
The current checklist covers the 170 known species and additional 48 subspecies known to occur in the Yosemite region, California, United States. This represents a total of 218 taxa (some being undescribed and unnamed) now recognized in the study area. This compares with Garth and Tilden’s 1963 survey which recognized 134 species and 16 additional subspecies, a total of 150 taxa. In addition to those, six additional species reported from the region are “questionable or doubtful” and another six species occur just outside the defined region.
The supplement includes additional information for the benefit of those who obtained the first …

Cofactor Fingerprinting With Std Nmr To Characterize Proteins Of Unknown Function: Identification Of A Rare Ccmp Cofactor Preference, Huili Yao, Daniel Sem
Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications
Proteomics efforts have created a need for better strategies to functionally categorize newly discovered proteins. To this end, we have employed saturation transfer difference NMR with pools of closely related cofactors, to determine cofactor preferences. This approach works well for dehydrogenases and has also been applied to cyclic nucleotide‐binding proteins. In the latter application, a protein (radial spoke protein‐2, RSP2) that plays a central role in forming the radial spoke of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii flagella was shown to bind cCMP. cCMP‐binding proteins are rare, although previous reports of their presence in sperm and flagella suggest that cCMP may have a more …

Method Of Producing An Integrated Circuit With A Carbon Nanotube, Rudiger Schlaf
Method Of Producing An Integrated Circuit With A Carbon Nanotube, Rudiger Schlaf
USF Patents
A method of producing an integrated circuit with a carbon nanotube is disclosed. The integrated circuit includes a source, a drain, and a gate, and the source and the drain are positioned on the gate. A catalytic material is deposited onto the source. The catalytic material is then subjected to chemical vapor deposition. This initiates growth of the carbon nanotube such that the carbon nanotube extends from the source. Next, the carbon nanotube is bent toward the integrated circuit such that the carbon nanotube extends between the source and the drain to render the circuit operable.

An EUV radiation source that creates a stable solid filament target. The source includes nozzle assembly having a condenser chamber for cryogenically cooling a gaseous target material into a liquid state. The liquid target material is filtered by a filter and sent to a holding chamber under pressure. The holding chamber allows entrained gas bubbles in the target being emitted from the nozzle assembly. The target material is forced through a nozzle outlet tube to be emitted from the nozzle assembly as a liquid target stream. A thermal shield is provided around the outlet tube to maintain the liquid target …

Faculty Research - Talks, Speeches, & Discourse
I wish to commend the FPCCI and UNDP for launching the Report of the Commission appointed by the Secretary General on Unleashing entrepreneurship. The Commission had learned scholars and practitioners such as Prof. C. K. Prahalad and Mr. Hernando de Soto as members for whose views on poverty alleviation are highly refreshing and I have great respect for them. The Report reflects their views and hence the Report is not only useful but practicable. The Commission has made an extremely important contribution to the debate on how to harness the energies and entrepreneurs of the private firms, farmers, businesses – …

Why Me?: The Bedrock Of Suffering, John C. Thomas
Why Me?: The Bedrock Of Suffering, John C. Thomas
Faculty Publications and Presentations
The world is unnerved but captivated by the wave of massive, indiscriminate destruction that befell Asia. In the protection of our society where pat answers are the drug, we meet face-to-face with the fragility of life, feel compassion, and return to business as usual. The reality is that we too are in the path of life’s devastations.
It is suffering to even consider the tragedies that could befall us. Yet, suffering comes to all without prejudice… on the just and unjust.1 When faced with the heartache of rejection, emptiness of loss, the bite of physical pain, the brokenness of regret, …

A Stag Hunt Account And Defense Of Transnational Labour Standards---A Preliminary Look At The Problem, Alan Hyde
Rutgers Law School (Newark) Faculty Papers
Transnational labor standards are modeled as cooperative solutions to the class of strategic dilemmas known as Stag Hunts, in which all actors would gain from a cooperative solution, but only if all cooperate. If you think a partner will defect, your best strategy is also to defect. Intuitively, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will all be better off if none of their children work and all go to school; however if one defects from this agreement it will capture a stream of foreign investment linked to child labor. Understanding Stag Hunts explains why transnational labor standards are found both in genuinely …
Employment Discrimination In A High Velocity Labor Market, Alan Hyde
Employment Discrimination In A High Velocity Labor Market, Alan Hyde
Rutgers Law School (Newark) Faculty Papers
Silicon Valley employers employ few African-Americans, Latino/as, or older workers, yet do not fit the usual paradigms of employment discrimination: they exhibit no taste for uniformity and do not employ job tournaments or internal labor markets. A new model of employment discrimination attributes disparate hiring in Silicon Valley to a combination of: demands for specific skill sets at hiring (the opposite of the subjective criteria that have long beguiled scholars of discrimination) and concomitant refusal to train; hiring through networks of personal contacts; and rewards to career paths that alternate employment with self-employment. Overcoming the disparate impact of these employment …
Who Speaks For The Working Poor?: A Preliminary Look At The Emerging Tetralogy Of Representation Of Low-Wage Service Workers, Alan Hyde
Rutgers Law School (Newark) Faculty Papers
Recent advocacy campaigns for low-wage service workers in New York City reveal a new pattern of representation by legal avocacy groups (like National Employment Law Project or law school clinics), governmental actors (like the state Attorney General or New York City Council), and immigrant rights groups. Such campaigns have won important economic and legal victories for Mexican workers in Korean greengroceries, West African delivery personnel for supermarkets and drug chains, and domestic workers. They have not, however, institutionalized workplace or political representation for these groups. Unions have either been passive, outmaneuvered, or played negative roles in these campaigns. This pattern …
Occupation Failures And The Legality Of Armed Conflict: The Case Of Iraqi Cultural Property, Mary Ellen O'Connell
Occupation Failures And The Legality Of Armed Conflict: The Case Of Iraqi Cultural Property, Mary Ellen O'Connell
The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Working Paper Series
US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld dismissed the looting of the Iraqi National Museum in April 2003 by remarking, “stuff happens.” In doing so, he gave an early indication that in planning to invade Iraq, the Bush Administration failed to take seriously the legal obligations of an occupying power. Occupying powers have a variety of binding legal obligations, including obligations to stop looting, protect cultural property, and protect persons in detention. Yet, the Administration sent a wholly inadequate force to fulfill those obligations, and, more seriously, the force received no direct and imperative orders to do so. As a result, …
The Paperless Chase: Electronic Voting And Democratic Values, Daniel P. Tokaji
The Paperless Chase: Electronic Voting And Democratic Values, Daniel P. Tokaji
The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Working Paper Series
The 2000 election ignited a fierce controversy over the machinery used for voting. Civil rights advocates have called for the replacement of outdated paper-based voting equipment, like the infamous “hanging chad” punch card. Yet the introduction of paperless technology, especially electronic “touchscreen” machines, has induced widespread concern that software might be rigged to alter election results. This article examines the debate over electronic voting, which raises fundamental questions about the democratic values that should guide the administration of elections. It frames the debate by defining four equality norms embodied in federal voting rights laws and the Constitution. Electronic voting has …

The Balance Between Higher Education Autonomy And Public Quality Assurance: Development Of The Portuguese System For Teacher Education Accreditation, Bártolo Campos
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
The accreditation systems of higher education institutions and/or programmes are becoming a policy measure used to find a balance between their autonomy and public assurance concerning the quality of the qualifications they award. This article analyses, from the point of view of this balance of power, the process of development of the Portuguese accreditation system aimed at providing public assurance that initial teacher education programmes are more driven by social demand, namely by the changing school education needs. ...
