Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Light Therapy, And Their Combination In Treating Seasonal Affective Disorder, Kelly J. Rohan, Kathryn Tierney Lindsey, Katheryn A. Roecklein, Timothy J. Lacy
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
Background: The need to develop supplementary or alternative treatments for seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is underscored by the significant minority (47%) of SAD patients that is refractory to light therapy, the persistence of residual symptoms despite light treatment, and poor long-term compliance with light use. Because preliminary studies suggest that cognitive and behavioral factors are involved in SAD, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) warrants investigation as a possible treatment option. Methods: We piloted a 6-week randomized clinical trial to compare a standard light therapy protocol; a novel, SAD-tailored, group CBT intervention; and their combination in ameliorating and remitting a current SAD episode …

Do Maternal/Paternal Child Relationships Have A Similar Pattern When The Child Has Tourette's Syndrome? A Case Study, Judy Olson Ph.D.
Electronic Journal for Inclusive Education
Although I did not realize it at the time, my first experiences in parenting evolved around a child who was diagnosed with onset pervasive developmental disorder by age five. Due to his hyperactivity, he was prescribed Ritalin. Within two weeks after being given this medication, he developed motor and vocal tics and was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome (TS) by the time he reached nine years of age. Subsequently, I began a teaching career in special education. During this time, I had guidance by a psychologist and two physicians who taught me a great deal about Tourette’s syndrome (TS). In the …

Part II presents a framework for a discussion of affordable housing policy issues, outlining the complex environment of affordable housing development, and the multiple interests that need to be involved in developing any coherent policy. Part III gives a short history of public housing policies from 1937 to the end of the twentieth century. Part IV discusses the major rental housing programs, including the …

"Distinctive" And "Famous" - Separate Requirements Under The Federal Trademark Dilution Act?, 3 J. Marshall Rev. Intell. Prop. L. 174 (2004), M. Scott Donahey
UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law
The Federal Trademark Dilution Act was promulgated to provide national protection of famous marks from uses that cause dilution of the distinctive quality of the mark. Courts consider several factors in determining whether a mark is “distinctive and famous.” However, a difference of opinion has arisen as to whether there is a difference between a “distinctive” mark and a “famous” mark. An analysis of the statutory language, pertinent historical sources, and the case law interpreting the statute leads one to conclude that the view articulated by the Second Circuit is more consistent with the language of the statute, the intent …
The Alien Tort Claims Act: A Tool For Repairing Ethically Challenged U.S. Corporations, Sonia Jimenez
The Alien Tort Claims Act: A Tool For Repairing Ethically Challenged U.S. Corporations, Sonia Jimenez
St. Thomas Law Review
Any good business person knows the best way to increase profit is to reduce overhead without compromising the quality of the product. With this in mind, many U.S. corporations have established business operations abroad, particularly in lesser developed countries. While lesser developed countries may not be attractive to tourists, they are attractive to industries and corporations for a number of reasons. Leaders of lesser developed countries can offer such corporations inexpensive materials, untapped natural resources, a cheap, yet highly productive, labor force, and there is virtually no regulation of business practices. Oftentimes, the leaders of such regions are just as …
