Music Education For The 21st Century: Epistemology And Ontology As Bases For Student Aesthetic Education, José Luis Aróstegui, Robert Stake, Helen Simons
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
We seek to understand why persons develop their musical preferences by identifying with a particular cultural group and social background. This identification is greatly shaped by experience in their environment. Resources employed for this identification are mostly different from those employed in schools to foster academic knowledge. ...

The Role Of Reactivity In Multiagent Learning, Bikramjit Banerjee, Jing Peng
The Role Of Reactivity In Multiagent Learning, Bikramjit Banerjee, Jing Peng
Department of Computer Science Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
In this paper we take a closer look at a recently proposed classification scheme for multiagent learning algorithms. Based on this scheme an exploitation mechanism (we call it the Exploiter) was developed that could beat various Policy Hill Climbers (PHC) and other fair opponents in some repeated matrix games. We show on the contrary that some fair opponents may actually beat the Exploiter in repeated games. This clearly indicates a deficiency in the original classification scheme which we address. Specifically, we introduce a new measure called Reactivity that measures how fast a learner can adapt to an unexpected hypothetical change …

The Role Of Dairy Products In The Calcium Intake Of Suburban Adolescents, Simie Bredeweg-Dejager
The Role Of Dairy Products In The Calcium Intake Of Suburban Adolescents, Simie Bredeweg-Dejager
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine consumption of dairy products by suburban adolescents. This was a secondary analysis of data from a questionnaire administered in late fall of 2003. There were 255 adolescents who completed the questionnaire. Data were examined to estimate calcium intake from dairy products.
There was a significant difference in the amount of calcium adolescents consume from cheese, compared to that supplied by milk (t = -8.502, p = .000). Further analyzing by gender, there was a significant difference between boys and girls intake of milk and cheese. No significant difference was found between boys …

Moral Education In The Digital Age, Edward E. Tywoniak
Moral Education In The Digital Age, Edward E. Tywoniak
Special Topics, General
Our natural human inclination to seek a moral understanding of the world is one of the oldest cultural narratives handed down since the beginning of recorded history. Much has been written on the ontic nature of moral absolutes and the rhetorical discourse of what makes a good citizen, but neither metaphysics nor politics has been totally prepared for the instantly ubiquitous nature of digital technology and its effect on societies in the contemporary age of the networked world. This paper reflects both a philosophical inquiry into the nature of technical systems through a set of anecdotal observations on civic engagement, …
The Limitations Of Retirement Plan Law, Peter M. Van Zante
The Limitations Of Retirement Plan Law, Peter M. Van Zante
ExpressO
It is widely believed that employers determine whether or not their employees receive retirement benefits and the type and amount of any benefits that are received. This belief is mistaken. While sponsorship of a retirement plan is a voluntary choice on the part of the sponsoring employer and the sponsoring employer directly controls the type of plan and the level of benefits provided, the employer's choices on these matters are controlled by its employees' preferences for different forms of compensation. An employer must spend the funds available for employee compensation so as to provide its employees with those forms of …
