Introduction To Triumpho Del Govierno Popular, Anne Oravetz Albert Aug 2004

Introduction To Triumpho Del Govierno Popular, Anne Oravetz Albert

Early Modern Workshop: Resources in Jewish History

The Triumpho del Govierno Popular, y de la Antiguedad Holandesa by Miguel de Barrios (Daniel Levi de Barrios) describes the political and religious 'government' of the community, and includes accounts of its literary and charitable associations, along with poems, encomia, funeral orations, and other miscellanea from de Barrios' Jewish oeuvre. This excerpt constitutes the opening of the work, part of a 58-page introduction which sets a theme for the rest by relating the exilic governance of the Jewish people to the six days of creation, and the restored monarchy of the messianic age to the seventh day, on which God …

Elia Schadeus' Mysterium: About The Conversion Of The Jews (1592), Debra Kaplan

Early Modern Workshop: Resources in Jewish History

This text reflects Elia Schadeus' position that economic tolerance of Jews and of converts would facilitate conversion to Christianity. It also documents the desperation felt by Jewish converts to Christianity, who had difficulty integrating into both their old and new societies.

Fuzzy Control With Random Delays Using Invariant Cones And Its Application To Control Of Energy Processes In Microelectromechanical Motion Devices, A. Sinha, Sergey Lyshevski Aug 2004

Fuzzy Control With Random Delays Using Invariant Cones And Its Application To Control Of Energy Processes In Microelectromechanical Motion Devices, A. Sinha, Sergey Lyshevski

Articles

In this paper, a class of microelectromechanical systems described by nonlinear differential equations with random delays is examined. Robust fuzzy controllers are designed to control the energy conversion processes with the ultimate objective to guarantee optimal achievable performance. The fuzzy rule base used consists of a collection of r fuzzy IF-THEN rules defined as a function of the conditional variable. The method of the theory of cones and Lyapunov functionals is used to design a class of local fuzzy control laws. A verifiably sufficient condition for stochastic stability of fuzzy stochastic microelectromechanical systems is given. As an example, we have …

Fundamentals Of The Prescription Drug Market, Christie Provost Peters

National Health Policy Forum

This background paper is a primer on the prescription drug market. It provides information on the fundamentals of the pharmaceutical industry and various marketplace stakeholders, including manufacturers, retailers, consumers, regulators, researchers, and purchasers. This paper also examines the various ways the federal government interacts with the pharmaceutical market. Due to the breadth of material addressed, some complex issues and relationships are presented in broad conceptual terms without extensive technical detail.

Building A Model Of Campus Diversity: An Organization-As-The-Individual Based Approach, Ian Spencer Ray Aug 2004

Building A Model Of Campus Diversity: An Organization-As-The-Individual Based Approach, Ian Spencer Ray

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Diversity is a vital concept when engaging with modern social science research and among higher education practitioners. Despite the pervasive discourse surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, quantification of diversity remains a challenge across the social sciences. This study proposes a new conceptual framework, applies the framework to the quantification of diversity and measurement of its impacts. Further, this study demonstrates the robustness of the new conceptual framework alongside the positive impacts of diversity on institutional outcomes.

The Organization-As-The-Individual (OATI) framework arises from an integration of the social and biological sciences. The framework argues that humans, as biological organisms, …

Tick-Tock: Preparing For The Next Influenza Pandemic, Eileen Salinsky Aug 2004

Tick-Tock: Preparing For The Next Influenza Pandemic, Eileen Salinsky

National Health Policy Forum

This paper describes the nature of pandemic influenza and highlights key challenges for responding to this disease threat. It explains how an influenza pandemic would differ from annual influenza outbreaks and examines how a pandemic virus could emerge. It also explores important issues involved in pandemic preparedness capabilities, including disease surveillance, vaccine production and distribution, antiviral stockpiling, health care system readiness, and public health containment measures. The national pandemic preparedness plan is briefly reviewed, and unresolved policy issues related to the plan’s implementation are identified.

Southern Cascadia Episodic Slow Earthquakes, Walter Szeliga, Timothy I. Melbourne, M. Meghan Miller, Marcelo Santillan Aug 2004

Southern Cascadia Episodic Slow Earthquakes, Walter Szeliga, Timothy I. Melbourne, M. Meghan Miller, Marcelo Santillan

Faculty Scholarship for the Cascadia Hazards Institute

Continuous GPS and seismic data from northern California show that slow earthquakes periodically rupture the Gorda-North America plate interface within southern Cascadia. On average, these creep events have occurred every 10.9±1.2 months since at least 1998. Appearing as week-long GPS extensional transients that reverse secular forearc contraction, the data show a recurrence interval 22% shorter than slow events recognized to the north. Seismic tremor here accompanies the GPS reversals, correlated across as many as 5 northern California seismometers. Tremor occurs sporadically throughout the year, but increases in duration and intensity by a factor of about 10 simultaneous with the GPS …

The University Of Texas Brownsville & Texas Southmost College Master Plan 2020, University Of Texas At Brownsville, Texas Southmost College

Campus Master Plans (UTB/UTPA)

"The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) is a dynamic force for education and economic development in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, South Texas, and Northern Mexico. The enrollment is steadily growing with the target of this update of the Facilities Master Plan to accommodate 20,000 students.

A revised master plan is necessary because of three key events that have significantly altered the physical environs of UTB/TSC:

  • acquisition of the former Amigoland Mall;
  • relocation of the Schools of Education and Business to the
  • south side of the Lozano Banco Resaca; and
  • acquisition of properties at the …

Binding Between The Niemann–Pick C1 Protein And A Photoactivatable Cholesterol Analog Requires A Functional Sterol-Sensing Domain, Nobutaka Ohgami, Dennis C. Ko, Matthew Thomas, Matthew P. Scott, Catherine C. Y. Chang, Ta-Yuan Chang Aug 2004

Binding Between The Niemann–Pick C1 Protein And A Photoactivatable Cholesterol Analog Requires A Functional Sterol-Sensing Domain, Nobutaka Ohgami, Dennis C. Ko, Matthew Thomas, Matthew P. Scott, Catherine C. Y. Chang, Ta-Yuan Chang

Dartmouth Scholarship

Niemann-Pick type C (NPC) 1 protein plays important roles in moving cholesterol and other lipids out of late endosomes by means of vesicular trafficking, but it is not known whether NPC1 directly interacts with cholesterol. We performed photoaffinity labeling of intact cells expressing fluorescent protein (FP)-tagged NPC1 by using [(3)H]7,7-azocholestanol ([(3)H]AC). After immunoprecipitation, (3)H-labeled NPC1-GFP appeared as a single band. Including excess unlabeled sterol to the labeling reaction significantly diminished the labeling. Altering the NPC1 sterol-sensing domain (SSD) with loss-of-function mutations (P692S and Y635C) severely reduced the extent of labeling. To further demonstrate the specificity of labeling, we show that …

Early Modern Workshop: Resources in Jewish History

The 2004 workshop’s goal was to look broadly at the early modern period, and develop a number of themes that might be pursued at subsequent workshops. At the workshop, a number of scholars worked together for three days trying to define the parameters of this chronological period in Jewish history. Participants have covered a broad, if still necessarily limited, range of geographic, thematic, and disciplinary topics, resulting in the first collection of impressive texts on early modern Jewish history. They include privileges granted by monarchs and lords to Jews (privileges granted to Jews of Great Poland in 1453, to a …
