The Incoherence Between Rawls's Theories Of Justice, Thomas W. Pogge Jan 2004

The Incoherence Between Rawls's Theories Of Justice, Thomas W. Pogge

Fordham Law Review

Would it be desirable to reform the global institutional order in conformity with the principles Rawls defends in A Theory on Justice? Rawls himself denies this and proposes a different moral theory (The Law of Peoples) for the relations among self-governing peoples. While sharing a questionable, purely recipient-oriented approach, his two theories differ importantly in substance and structure. The former gives weight only to the interests of individual persons, yet the latter gives no weight to these interests at all. A Qualitative Study Of Public Perspectives On Family Support Services In Ireland, Claire M. Jackson, Catherine M. Heffernan Jan 2004

A Qualitative Study Of Public Perspectives On Family Support Services In Ireland, Claire M. Jackson, Catherine M. Heffernan

Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies

t Family Support Services (FSS) were set up to help families to cope with the stress and strain of modern life. Such services have been considered to be of immense value to people living in designated disadvantaged areas. However, there is little information on the public's perception of family support services in Ireland. Since the provision of efficient and effective services requires knowledge of users' needs, it is essential that these issues be addressed. The purpose of this study therefore is to investigate parents' views and experiences of family support services by a qualitative exploratory study conducted in the North …

Utilization Of Juvenile Animals Studies To Determine The Human Effects And Risks Of Environmental Toxicants During Postnatal Developmental Stages, Robert L. Brent

The Selected Works of Robert Brent

Toxicology studies utilizing animals and in-vitro cellular or tissue preparations have been used to study the toxic effects and mechanism of action of drugs and chemicals and to determine the effective and safe dose of drugs in humans and the risk of toxicity from chemical exposures. Testing in animals could be improved if animal dosing using the mg/kg basis was abandoned and drugs and chemicals were administered to compare the effects of pharmacokinetically and toxicokinetically equivalent serum levels in the animal model and human. Since alert physicians or epidemiology studies, not animal studies have discovered most human teratogens and toxicities …
