Determination Of Dimethylselenide And Dimethyldiselenide By Gas Chromatography–Photoionization Detection, William J. Hunter, L. David Kuykendall
Determination Of Dimethylselenide And Dimethyldiselenide By Gas Chromatography–Photoionization Detection, William J. Hunter, L. David Kuykendall
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
A simple method for the determination of volatile selenium compounds employing a gas chromatograph equipped with a photoionization detector is described. The method involves the direct injection of dimethylselenide (DMS) or dimethyldiselenide (DMDS) into the gas chromatograph; no derivatization of the sample was required. The photoionization detector was capable of detecting 60 pg (0.55 pmol) of DMS and 150 pg (0.80 pmol) DMDS. Sensitivity was 10–50 times greater with DMS and 4–20 times greater with DMDS when the photoionization detector was employed than when the flame ionization detector was employed.

Detection And Characterization Of Amitraz Resistance In The Southern Cattle Tick, Boophilus Microplus (Acari: Ixodidae), Andrew Y. Li, Ronald B. Davey, Robert J. Miller, John E. George
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Amitraz, a formamidine acaricide, plays an important role in the control of the southern cattle tick, Boophilus microplus (Canestrini), and other tick species that infest cattle, dogs, and wild animals. Although resistance to amitraz in B. microplus was previously reported in several countries, the actual measurement of the level of amitraz resistance in ticks has been difficult to determine due to the lack of a proper bioassay technique. We conducted a survey, by using a newly reported technique that was a modification of the standard Food and Agriculture Organization larval packet test, to measure the levels of resistance to amitraz …
Using An “Incidents Of Marriage” Analysis When Considering Interstate Recognition Of Same-Sex Couples’ Marriages, Civil Unions, And Domestic Partnerships, Barbara Cox
Faculty Scholarship
Despite discussions for over ten years, we still do not have any decisions on interstate or international recognition of marriages by same-sex couples. We do have, however, six cases in the United States on the interstate recognition and validation of Vermont civil unions. In these six cases, same-sex couples from six different states who had entered into Vermont civil unions came to their courts seeking resolution of legal issues that arose in their relationships. The rest of this article now turns to these six decisions and considers how each court dealt with the same-sex couple seeking legal assistance with the …
Establishing A Stable Democratic Constitutional Structure In Iraq: Some Basic Considerations, Paul Williams
Establishing A Stable Democratic Constitutional Structure In Iraq: Some Basic Considerations, Paul Williams
Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
As the situation in Iraq continues to stabilize, the people of Iraq will turn to the task of reconstituting an Iraqi state. One of the first steps in this process will be to design, agree upon, and implement a new constitutional structure. While drafting a new constitution is a difficult and contentious process for any country, the challenges are substantially magnified for Iraq given its complex mosaic of ethnic and religious identities, the history of repression under Saddam Hussein, the necessary presence of American forces, and Iraq’s complex relations with its neighboring states. The overriding tension faced by the drafters …

Autonomous Environmental Mapping In Multi-Agent Uav Systems, Linus Jan Luotsinen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
UAV units are by many researchers and aviation specialists considered the future and cutting edge of modern flight technology. This thesis discusses methods for efficient autonomous environmental mapping in a multi-agent domain. An algorithm that emphasizes on team work by sharing the agents local map information and exploration intentions is presented as a solution to the mapping problem. General theories on how to model and implement rational autonomous behaviour for UAV agents are presented. Three different human and tactical behaviour modeling techniques are evaluated. The author found the CxBR paradigm to be the most interesting approach. Also, in order to …

Damages: Expert Witnesses, Stephen D. Easton
Journal of Dispute Resolution
In the language of the Federal Rules of Evidence, an expert is one who possesses "scientific, technical, or other specialized knowledge [that] will assist the trier of fact to understand the evidence or to determine a fact in issue."' When the jury is sorting through evidence and conflicting party claims on disputed issues, such persons are potentially useful sources of information. At the same time, attorneys' widespread use of expert witnesses has troublesome aspects. To the chagrin of some, expert witnesses have come to dominate civil trials, particularly those involving technical issues where large amounts of money are at risk. …

Damages: The Litigation Environment, Stephen D. Easton
Journal of Dispute Resolution
Damages' is, at least in part, the story of a lawsuit. In some ways, it is a fairly typical lawsuit. In other ways, it is rather unusual, due to the significant damages potential of the suit. Therefore, some of the lessons to be learned from the story of this lawsuit may be applicable to lawsuits in general or, at least, to "typical" civil suits, while others may not.

Journal of Dispute Resolution
The purpose of this article is to introduce these academic accounts of settlement and to consider whether they provide insight into the settlement of the Sabias' litigation against Humes and Norwalk. I believe these accounts are largely complementary rather than competing, so my own view is that each sheds some light on litigation and settlement behavior in most civil cases (including the Sabia case).
