ETSU Today [magazine]
Each morning, when I walk into my Dossett Hall office at ETSU, I have a feeling that something good is about to happen. More often than not, it does. ETSU is an energized campus, populated with faculty, staff, and students whose talents and knowledge rank with the best in the country. It’s a place energized, too, by community partnerships that keep us growing and healthy, even during the hardest of times. I remember the day I walked into the office and learned that the late and beloved Congressman James H. “Jimmy” Quillen had left the ETSU Foundation $14.6 million for …

Review Of Women Oral History: The Frontiers Reader Edited By Susan H. Armitage With Patricia Hart And Karen Wathermon., Yuankun Yao
Journal of Women in Educational Leadership
Women's Oral History: The Frontiers Reader is a collection of 21 journal articles. Edited by Susan H. Armitage, with Patricia Hart and Karen Weatherman, the book chronicles the evolution of women's oral history from its beginning in the 1970s to the present. The book documents how oral history provides an alternative perspective on history by uncovering important roles ordinary women have played-roles that have been typically ignored by mainstream history (Clegg, Miller, & Vanderhoof, 1995; Singleton, 1990).

Cultural Patterns Of Social Engagement Among The Elderly After The Loss Of A Long-Term Spouse: Unwrinkled Passion Or A Withering Of Heart, Tara Saltzman Fleisher
Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios
This study examines the cultural patterns of social engagement among the elderly following the loss of a long-term spouse. Even though the cultural patterns and quality of life of the elderly have changed dramatically as compared with previous generations, there has been little research into the question of how today's elderly cope with their increasing longevity. To establish a framework for analysis, this study identifies four key patterns of social engagement: friendship and companionship, sexuality, community networks, and family interaction.
Using a qualitative methodological approach, the importance of each pattern for coping with the loss of a long-term spouse is …
