House Prices And Fundamental Value, John Krainer, Chi Shen Wei Oct 2004

House Prices And Fundamental Value, John Krainer, Chi Shen Wei

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

The performance of the residential housing market over the last ten years has been remarkable. According to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO), house prices have appreciated at an annual rate of 5.4% on average (68.9% over the whole time period). Perhaps even more remarkable is that the performance was strong even when economic activity overall was weak. Average annual appreciation rates have been 7.4% (26% in total) since the collapse of the Nasdaq in 2000 and 7.1% (20% in total) since 2001:Q1, the beginning of the 2001 recession. In contrast, since the start of the 2001 recession, …

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

A locally developed ‘Approaches to Learning Inventory (ALI)’ was administered to explore the learning difficulties and learning approaches of undergraduate students of Bachelor of Physiotherapy, College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal. University examination marks of these students were also collected. Learning approach and learning difficulties were summarized by computing mean, standard deviation and percentage of students experiencing some of the academic and non-academic problems. Spearman’s correlation was computed between standardized scores of examination marks, learning approach and learning difficulty scale scores. Academic performance has shown significant negative correlation with surface approach and various problems of learners like fear of failure …

Finding Lawyers For Employees In Discrimination Disputes As A Critical Prescription For Unions To Embrace Racial Justice, Michael Z. Green Oct 2004

Finding Lawyers For Employees In Discrimination Disputes As A Critical Prescription For Unions To Embrace Racial Justice, Michael Z. Green

Faculty Scholarship

At such a crucial time in our history, major concerns exist regarding the viability of labor unions and the capability of employees to pursue racial justice in the workplace with any success. Continued improvement within both movements may depend upon finding a cohesive intersection between them. With the race and class divide affecting relations between organized labor and black workers (a dilemma which must be explored in more detail), this Article offers the thesis that there remains an area of opportunity for justice where interests of unions and black employees may coalesce: providing legal assistance to unrepresented black employees in …

French Civil Law Between Past And Revival, Guy Canivet Oct 2004

French Civil Law Between Past And Revival, Guy Canivet

Connecticut Journal of International Law

The various anniversary celebrations to which the Napoleonic Code has given rise during the two centuries of its existence, in particular the present bicentenary events, have given French and foreign lawyers numerous opportunities to comment on its influence in the world. This plethora of studies at once shows the extraordinary destiny of the work of 1804 and the wide diversity of its transpositions. Among the most recent and complete studies, one in the Bicentenary Book by a most remarkable French comparative lawyer, Professor Xavier Blanc-Jouvan, must be mentioned. My comments today owe a great deal to it; so topical, complete, …

Turn The Other Cheek, Or Demand An Eye For An Eye? Religious Persecution In China And An Effective Western Response, Ellen S. Reinstein Oct 2004

Turn The Other Cheek, Or Demand An Eye For An Eye? Religious Persecution In China And An Effective Western Response, Ellen S. Reinstein

Connecticut Journal of International Law

The Western world has watched in amazement over the past decade as the number of religious practitioners has rapidly increased in the People's Republic of China. Although no solid census has been taken, it is estimated that there now are up to 70 million Protestants and 12 million Catholics in the PRC.' Approximately eight million Uighur Muslims live in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region,2 and most of the 2.6 million ethnic Tibetans continue to practice Tibetan Buddhism.3 In addition, many Chinese are now involved in "fringe" religions such as Falun Gong.

This growth and persistence of religion has alarmed Chinese …

Assessment Of A Body Composition-Focused Approach To Obesity Treatment, Beverly D. Hall Oct 2004

Assessment Of A Body Composition-Focused Approach To Obesity Treatment, Beverly D. Hall

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Obesity is a significant United States’ public health concern. However, high relapse rates continue to be a problem for obesity treatment programs while the focus remains on weight loss, not body composition change. This study examined whether a clinic-based obesity treatment program, focused on body composition change through resistance training, lead to improved body composition, exercise behaviors, and attitude change from focus on weight loss to body composition change. Improvements in self efficacy, outcome expectations and stages of change were also examined. Forty-eight physician-referred overweight or obese adult women (mean body fat 41%, SD = 6.65%), completed assessments and questionnaires …

Collaboration with Interagency Team

Although the task agreement formally commenced June 30, 2004, the agreement was not fully executed by both parties until July 29, 2004. In the first three months of this agreement, UNLV representatives have met with or communicated via email with the Interagency Volunteer Team on numerous occasions. At the first meeting on July 13, 2004, Government Technical Representative Bobbie Antonich and UNLV Public Lands Initiative Director Nancy Flagg met with the interagency team to discuss the overall goals for the Interagency Volunteer Program (IVP). The team was brought up-to-date on the status of the task agreement, …
