Search For Doubly Charged Higgs Boson Pair Production In The Decay To Μ+Μ+Μ-Μ- In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.96 Tev, V. M. Abazov, Gregory R. Snow, D0 Collaboration

Gregory Snow Publications

A search for pair production of doubly charged Higgs bosons in the process pp̅ → H++H-- → μ+μ+μ-μ- is performed with the D0 run II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The analysis is based on a sample of inclusive dimuon data collected at an energy of √s = 1.96 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 113 pb-1. In the absence of a signal, 95% confidence level mass limits of M(HL±±) > 118.4 GeV/c2 and M(HR±±) …

The Effect Of Crosswind And Turbulence In Mental Workload And Pilot Tracking Performance, Bruno E. Vivaldi Oct 2004

The Effect Of Crosswind And Turbulence In Mental Workload And Pilot Tracking Performance, Bruno E. Vivaldi

Master's Theses - Daytona Beach

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of crosswind and turbulence on mental workload and pilot tracking performance. Based on previous research, it was believed that as the amount of crosswind and turbulence is increased, mental workload would increase and tracking performance would decrease. The objective was to estimate the impact that crosswind and turbulence, of varying degrees, had on performance and workload. Fifteen full time college student volunteers served as experimental participants in a simulated horizontal and vertical tracking task. Each participant flew twelve instrument approaches, experiencing a different crosswind and turbulence combination during each approach. …

Larvae Of Ceratocanthidae And Hybosoridae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea): Study Of Morphology, Phylogenetic Analysis And Evidence Of Paraphyly Of Hybosoridae, Vasily V. Grebennikov, Alberto Ballerio, Federico C. Ocampo, Clarke E. Scholtz Oct 2004

Larvae Of Ceratocanthidae And Hybosoridae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea): Study Of Morphology, Phylogenetic Analysis And Evidence Of Paraphyly Of Hybosoridae, Vasily V. Grebennikov, Alberto Ballerio, Federico C. Ocampo, Clarke E. Scholtz

University of Nebraska State Museum: Entomology Papers

Larvae of the scarabaeoid genera Germarostes Paulian, Cyphopisthes Gestro, Paulianostes Ballerio, Ceratocanthus White, Pterorthochaetes Gestro, Madrasostes Paulian, Astaenomoechus Martínez & Pereira (Ceratocanthidae) and Hybosorus Macleay, Phaeochrous Castelnau, and Anaides Westwood (Hybosoridae) are described, keyed and illustrated with fifty-seven drawings. A phylogenetic analysis of these two families based on larval morphology is presented. Fifty-four larval morphological and three biological characters from twenty-seven taxa revealed nineteen equally parsimonious cladograms. The monophyly of (Ceratocanthidae + Hybosoridae) is supported by four unambiguous unique synapomorphies: dorsal medial endocarina on cranium extended anteriorly into frontal sclerite; presence of large membranous spot on apical antennomere; labium dorsally …

Exploring The Bermuda Triangle: Review Of Gender, Societal, Team And Individual Leadership Theories , Andrea J. Gage, Shelly Mumma, Susan Fritz Oct 2004

Exploring The Bermuda Triangle: Review Of Gender, Societal, Team And Individual Leadership Theories , Andrea J. Gage, Shelly Mumma, Susan Fritz

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

The relationship between an individual’s comprehension of his or her role in society, the gender expectations of society, and how these thoughts and stereotypes influence an individual’s behavior in particular settings seem to be separate, yet interrelated. It is for this reason that an analysis of four main theories of gender and leadership must be reviewed for contrasts and comparisons. This paper reviews and analyzes the research literature on Social Role Theory, Implicit Theory, Attribution Theory, and Leader Emergence Theory. Further it draws conclusions and comparisons that will provide recommendations and implications for future research and practice.

Four Dimensions Of Leadership In The Problem-Solving Of Education Deans, Antonia Donofrio Oct 2004

Four Dimensions Of Leadership In The Problem-Solving Of Education Deans, Antonia Donofrio

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)

This study links personal attributes of deans of schools and colleges of education to the problem solving contexts in which they make decisions that affect the programs they serve. We describe the mix of intellect, emotion, social acumen, and moral attributes that deans draw upon when they respond to vignettes that capture the multifaceted nature of problem solving in their positions. This study is a continuation of research that attempts to identify characteristics of deans of education who have survived in their role. This is an important issue, as schools and colleges report difficulty in identifying deans who can meet …

Faculty Learning Communities And Teaching Portfolios As A Mentoring Model, Andrea C. Wade Oct 2004

Faculty Learning Communities And Teaching Portfolios As A Mentoring Model, Andrea C. Wade

Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)

Beginning a career in college or university teaching can be a terrifying exercise in trial and error. Unlike elementary and secondary school teachers, many college faculty members begin their teaching careers with little or no formal preparation in pedagogy. Despite being well-versed in the content discipline, faculty members in their first few semesters of teaching often lack access to the kind of frequent assessment and mentoring that would shorten the learning curve and enhance the experience for both instructor and student. Through the years, a number of different strategies have been proposed to foster interactions between college faculty members. Typically, …

The Realities Of Relevance: A Survey Of Librarians' Use Of Library And Information Science Research, Christine Brown, Brett Spencer Oct 2004

The Realities Of Relevance: A Survey Of Librarians' Use Of Library And Information Science Research, Christine Brown, Brett Spencer

The Southeastern Librarian

This article grew out the authors' desire to explore the widely held notion that librarians disregard LIS research because they consider it irrelevant. For example, in the early stages of this project one colleague commented that librarianship "is all practice" and that LIS research has had no effect upon his own work. Editors of many LIS journals also question whether research exerts influence on practice. Peter Hernon and Candy Schwartz, editors of Library and Information Science Research, lament that “research has not penetrated the soul” of the library profession, and William Katz, former editor of Research Quarterly, notes that many …

Inverted Echo Sounder Data Report Ulleung Basin Of Japan/East Sea June 1991 To July 2001, Douglas A. Mitchell, Yongsheng Xu, Karen L. Tracey, D. Randolph Watts, Mark Wimbush, William Teague

Physical Oceanography Technical Reports

Observations were conducted from June 1999 to July 2001 to study the shallow and deep current variability in the southwest Japan/East Sea. Data were collected during the field experiment with a two-dimensional array of pressure-gauge equipped inverted echo sounders (PIES) and deep recording current meters (RCM). The collection, processing and calibration of the PIES are documented in this report. Descriptions of the processes used to identify and remove jumps (offsets) in the pressure and travel time records, that resulted when the instruments were jostled or moved by deep crab-fishing activities in the Japan/East Sea, are given. Time series plots of …
