The Generation Of A Digital Phantom For Testing Of Digitally Reconstructed Radiographs, Nicholas Andrew, Mason Oct 2004

The Generation Of A Digital Phantom For Testing Of Digitally Reconstructed Radiographs, Nicholas Andrew, Mason

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The construction of phantoms for testing imaging parameters has been well documented in the literature. As computers have been introduced into the different areas of medicine, they have become more and more relied upon to replace conventional technologies. One specific example is that of plane film X-rays. Digitally Reconstructed Radiographs (DRR's) are computer generated images that are generated from a 3 D volume of data, such as CT or MRI axial scans, and can be used in place of conventional X rays. The computer can generate a DRR image for any position, orientation and magnification, and geometries not physically possible …

Rapid Development And Flexible Deployment Of Adaptive Wireless Sensor Network Applications, Chien-Liang Fok, Gruia-Catalin Roman, Chenyang Lu Oct 2004

Rapid Development And Flexible Deployment Of Adaptive Wireless Sensor Network Applications, Chien-Liang Fok, Gruia-Catalin Roman, Chenyang Lu

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are difficult to pro-gram and usually run statically-installed software limiting its flexibility. To address this, we developed Agilla, a new middleware that increases network flexibility while simplifying application development. An Agilla network is deployed with no pre-installed application. Instead, users inject mobile agents that spread across nodes performing application-specific tasks. Each agent is autonomous, allowing multiple applications to share a network. Programming is simplified by allowing programmers to create agents using a high-level language. Linda-like tuple spaces are used for inter-agent communication and context discovery. This preserves each agent’s autonomy while providing a rich infrastructure for …

Governors State University Presents Ethnic Pharmacology Workshop, Office Of Public Affairs

Press Releases

People who are not white males may be at risk when their physicians prescribe medication. That is because funding, research, pharmacology and every benchmark for what represents quality health care have historically centered on one gender and one group: males of European origin. In today’s health care environment, that historical focus has left its legacy: marked disparities in the type and quality of care culturally diverse groups receive when they seek medical attention.

Governors State University is working to …

Trouble In Cubdom, Richard C. Crepeau Oct 2004

Trouble In Cubdom, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

There was a time when being a Cub fan was one of the easiest callings in the world. You would begin in spring training reciting all those spring training mantras like "We're all in first place on April 1st," or "This isn't the same team that finished at the bottom last year," or in the more unfortunate words of Leo Durocher, "This isn't an eighth place team." Leo unfortunately had a lapse of memory as the National League had expanded to ten teams. But I digress.
