Creative Preaching: How Multi-Sensory Preaching Connects The Word Of God To The Twenty-First Century Culture, Mark D. Cummins

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this project is to identify the benefits of creative preaching for the purpose of connecting the 21st century to the Word of God. The project will reveal the media reformation that brought about a cultural shift from hearing words to seeing words. By examining the scriptures, the reader will discover that creative preaching through multiple sensory inputs is not a new idea. Finally, research-based practical advice and transitional resources will be given to help today’s preachers creatively connect the Word of God with the 21st century.

Performance As Ministry: An Ethnographic Study Of Three Christian Repertory Theatre Troupes, Webster Ford Drake

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This work seeks to define, explain, and place into historical and social context the phenomena of Christian Repertory Theater (CRT). It does so by examining three CRT troupes: Acts 2 from Nashville, TN, sponsored by Two Rivers Baptist Church; The Company from Fort Worth, TX, sponsored by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and Gen X from Clinton, MS, which operated independent of external support . Ethnographic fieldwork was the primary vehicle of information-gathering in this case study analysis. The author experienced each group as either a participant-observer, observer, and/or interviewer. CRT was ultimately defined as an activity wherein a constituted group …

Programa De Discipulado Para La Iglesia Adventista Del Séptimo Día De Rio Grande, Albuquerque, Nuevo Mexico, Joel Soto

Doctor of Ministry Projects

A discipleship program is the key to maintaining a healthy church in constant growth. It also provides the opportunity to consolidate the believers in church philosophy, exercising faith through practice of spiritual life. The purpose of this dissertation was to elaborate a program that would retain new believers in the church, leading them to action in their spiritual life, and in the practice of lay activities.

The investigation revealed the causes for lack of participation in spiritual activities, in the practice and discovery of spiritual gifts, and intervention in missionary work. This program is expected to better-equip members so they …

Religion As Hatred: Antisemitism As A Case Study, John T. Pawlikowski Jan 2004

Religion As Hatred: Antisemitism As A Case Study, John T. Pawlikowski

Journal of Hate Studies

The topic of religion as a source of hatred could be explored through several lenses. I first came to this topic through an analysis and evaluation of the studies done on prejudice in Catholic teaching materials undertaken in the sociology department of St. Louis University. This evaluation of ways in which Catholic textbooks covering literature, social studies, and religion generated stereotypes of religious and racial outgroups opened my eyes to the ways in which religion could become a force for social hatred rather than reconciliation. This initial research has grounded my subsequent work both as a social ethicist and as …
